![]() Once you have that stuff, it's really hard to go back to Jack Daniels or Johnnie Walker. Sure, they're slightly more expensive but I drink my whiskey neat and Jamesons / Chivas is soooo good for the price. You know why you drink it neat? I'll tell you; a good whiskey SHOULDN'T be mixed. When I see people mixing Chivas in Coke I die a little inside.

Walker Black on rocks Jameson and Sprite or Ginger Ale Jameson 12yo on rocks Jack and Coke Finer Whisk(e)y should go over rocks imo ![]() Had some Walker Blue at a bar once. 30$ roughly for a "shot" but, oh how it was worth it Also for anyone wanting to try something new, look for Bookers Bourbon. i dont know if this has been linked or not Whiskey Stones

Are you serious? I have experienced the exact opposite. I have a bottle at home but I just can't get myself to drink it. Just does not taste well, at all. My friends agree, nobody ever wants some off the A'bunadh. Maybe I got an unlucky year but it's really the worst bottle I have at home :-( I also tried messing with water, but I just can't get this thing to taste well.

I've got some friends and family that are serious whiskey lovers, and I want to pick up a few bottles for Christmas. Keep in mind, I know nothing about whiskey, but the people I'm buying for definitely do. edit: Budget: $100/bottle It really depends on the taste of your friends and if you want to get them something special or rather something that they will definitely like (but may already have). (personally I'd prefer to get something I don't already have) some recommendations: Ardbeg Supernova + Show Spoiler + ![]() Yamazaki Puncheon + Show Spoiler + ![]() Bowmore Tempest + Show Spoiler + of course you can also get them something like an 18y Glenlivet or Highlandpark, but they'll mostlikely already have them. On a sidenote, it seems the price for the 18y old Yamazaki (also something you might want to get them) seems to have significantly increased ![]()

The Supernova is the smokiest whisky I've tasted, even though the Octomore had more ppm. Bowmore Tempest is a mix between Bowmore and Port Ellen as I understand it, and since Port Ellen is kind of hard to get a hold of for a reasonable price here in Sweden, it was a nice experience. I haven't tried the Yamazaki Puncheon, so I can't speak on behalf of that, but since the other two rocks I would say go for it ^^;

Ideally you should try to get them something exotic, i.e. something that they wouldn't normally get themselves but would likely enjoy. I would go with Japanese whiskys if they haven't explored them already. Given that you are from the U.S., Yamazaki is probably already fairly popular; try Hakushu or a higher grade Taketsuru. Green Spot is a very good Irish whiskey that I recently discovered (shared a bottle with some friends at my Irish boss's home), might be hard to find, and I don't know how much it would be in the U.S. ![]()

Hmm mabye you have a bad batch (as far as I know there has been only one that is bad, all others are recommended). It definitely is a sherry bomb and you need to add some water (at least a few drops) to make it work, but I kinda liked it and from what I've read a lot of people do. Mine is batch no. 32 with 60.4%, just had to try a sip while checking and it's really awesome (but pretty sweet). ![]()

The reason I was originally going to buy Blue Label for people is because they all like it, and think its some of the best Scotch Whiskey you can get. So I guess I'm looking for a Blue Label alternative. Would love to surprise them with something they'd never expect to be super awesome.

Glenmorangie is quite good if you like blends (it's very smooth) but are after something a little more "special". It's also not too expensive. I highly recommend it! I find Jameson's to be a bit rougher, but not too much. It's really a great whisky for its price. At many pubs, it's often either Jameson's or Tullamore Dew, in which case Jameson is greatly superior! : ) + Show Spoiler + ![]()
