No I'm not. I find the situation in this case disgusting if all the facts are indeed true, and that man should be locked up. But corporal punishment isn't a horrendous sign of "bad parenting". I feel like the way the punishment is delivered (what is said, why, etc) is more potentially scarring than the act itself. Just think THAT should be the focus of what went wrong here, what's truly disgusting about the video. Circumstance is what makes this terrible, not the punishment itself. At least for me.

One of the tags for the video is "kazaa" so it's most likely because she was pirating stuff. Since it's his house he would be liable if they get sued for copyright infringement, which can cost a bit of money and probably isn't good for his career. Not defending him, just trying to fill in some holes with logical speculation. besides, anyone that is "against technology" isn't very likely to buy a computer for their daughter with internet access.

The beating was the fucking sick part obviously, I'm just quoting to show the ignorance: "All the fucking problem them computers cause" "Take it like a 16 year old girl" "You don't deserve to fucking be in this house" You don't fucking deserve to live.

Yes (having now read the full context of her condition) that was too much. But corporal punishment overall isn't bad. For me it was the continuation of the conversation that got me riled up. Corporal punishment is fine, I myself was raised with corporal punishment as a possibility, but the fact that he didn't let it go was a bit much for me. Honestly, everyone's going to freak out and say she should be removed from the house, but I think that's ridiculous. She got belted. Woo hoo. Getting belted hurts like a son of a bitch, but it's nothing seriously harmful. And please don't pull the "mentally scarring" card out. It's not. I promise you. According to you it isn't mentally scarring, but that's not a very convincing argument...you'd need a study to actually provide legitimate support for that statement (which will probably never happen). Different people react in different ways! Also don't you think there's a better way to discipline children than beating them or whipping them? Shouldn't we be trying to evolve beyond using corporeal punishment? He could have grounded her, or cut off internet for X period of time.

Since he never struck me with a closed fist and it was all "punishment" it was apparently legal I could be wrong, though maybe this video could prove to be psychologically abusive? Is that really what defines abuse? Having to ball up your hand into a fist? Thats nuts because I'm pretty sure I could beat someone bloody with even a open hand.
