Id like to add one mr. Noel Gallagher to the list. Just listen to his fresh new album! Genius stuff. Though half of the songs are written like 10 years ago..but thats beside the point =)

If so, Ray Manzarek was easily one of the most widely skilled musical savants of time. Or anyone from Rush, as Geddy Lee and Neil Peart are pretty much the masters of their instruments. If we mean just favorite, and include singers? Either 2pac or Jim Morrison.

It could easily be spun that way (by idiots).

Petrucci's playing is crazy clean, but his writing has been a bit shite for some years. His work from Images and Words is fantastic and really melodic, brilliance on Scenes, yet from there on out he seemed to have discovered that you can play the same scales, preferably chromatic, *really* fast and call it a solo. Romeo, while a bit less clean, has managed to shake that aspect of soloing and just play stuff that you don't expect him to do. His solos and melodies seem to 'jump around' a lot more than the linear-ish Petrucci riffs. Also, Romeo seems to be doing more stuff and adding more details when he's just playing rhythm. I realize of course that solos are not what define a guitarist/musician, but in their relative styles of music, they play quite a large part.

It's like John Fahey, a lot of people tend to think their works are improvisations but it's all composed. "Move white girls like theres coke up my ass crack Move black girls coz, man, fuck it, I’ll do either I love pussy, I love bitches, man I should be running PETA" Gonna close this tab before I barf. Don't compare Django to Van Morrison dude. Django could improvise like a mofo. He did compose a lot of work but there is just absolutely no way someone with an understanding of jazz at that level would not know how to improvise. Also Hermeto Pascoal. Brazilian Jazz Fusion and he plays a ridiculous amount of instruments masterfully.

I have to go with Emily Haines.A voice I can't get enough of.The nice smoothness, the sweetness of the calming voice. Some people who claim to have met her say that she is rather arrogant or something along those lines but I love her voice nevertheless.

I'm thoroughly surprised nobody truly mentioned Richard D. James, commonly known as Aphex Twin. Nobody puts the technological humanity in perspective so much as he does. He crafts his patches as though he's a master pianist, but using electronics instead of acoustics. It might be easy to dismiss him as gimmicky or slightly insane due to the high-energy compositions in Drukqs and Come to Daddy, but the man knows exactly what he's doing. Aphex Twin is a musical mastermind molded in modern chaos. unique soundscapes relentless techno beautiful basement dwelling mind/machine I'm inclined to mention Brian Eno as well, whose music is fantastical and even more diverse than Aphex Twin's, but doesn't appeal to my technological craving.

. Vanessa Mae (Toccata & Fugue, low-qual video but just watch her face) - Another one: http://grooveshark.com/#/s/Red Hot/346M8Q?src=5 Pink Floyd - needs no introduction, surprised that I have not seen them mentioned yet. Also, John Lennon, here are a few tracks you may not have heard:

imagining a world with only one artist is depressing as shit though. i challenge anyone to listen to this song quietly through headphones while you're waiting to fall asleep and not have your breathing rhythm change.
