Whenever I hear state's rightists talk about the right to deny a right such as gay marriage because more than 50 percent of the population thinks it is wrong, then I think he was right on.

Dwarfs have a certain amount of muscular atrophy and impaired muscle development that prevents them from controlling a 1200lb animal hurtling along at 40mph. They would, however, probably come in well under the weight requirements.

I mean, it might be morally wrong in your opinion, but as a democracy, if the majority believe the right should not exist, the people have the ultimate say. If there's something fundamentally wrong about it, such as a basic human right, we have a court system to stand up for the rights of the minority. Then you get into semantics about "why not call it something else and have marriage only apply to religious ceremonies", etc. But that's beside the point.

I'm fully in support of gay marriage and my views on this whole issue begin and end with "stick it, or be stuck by it, wherever you want, and by whomever you want as long as it's fully consensual", but I respect the right of the >50% in your example to deny that right within their state.

Wisdom, mainly.

For example, why is one of the rules here to respect people with high post count even though many of them still post like dumbfucks?

Psychological projection

This poem by Langston Hughes is relevant
"Poet to Bigot"

I have done so little
For you,
And you have done so little
For me,
That we have good reason
Never to agree.

I, however,
Have such meagre
Power,
Clutching at a
Moment,
While you control
An hour.

But your hour is
A stone.

My moment is
A flower.

I don't know about high post count, but usually it's based on some sort of friendship (online or not) between members of a forum/sub-forum, not directly to post-count.
However, I still find the rule of respect your elders kind of stupid. It all goes back to children not able to make "their own knowledgeable" decisions, so listen to the people who can. Or at least this is what I assume. Either that or people like to tell others what to do, but don't directly admit to it and instead create a false reason for it.

Can I use "without" as an antonym to "within"? As in this sentence:

John, a frequent writer for the local newspaper, does an excellent job reporting about various groups within and without the school in this article.

Only time I have seen it used like that was in a riddle so it is probably better to use the phrasing that Najda suggested.
