There are plenty of circles where you could do it today without "everybody losing their minds." But broadly it's an interesting question; there is a substantial divide between feminists who think porn is affirming/open/pro-sex and those who more tend to think of it as degrading/objectifying/patriarchal. And of course the large number of people who think that there are divisions you can draw between different kinds of porn.

why are series from the US involving important political decisions always centering around some senator instead of the president?

Because it would be very controversial to depict the president in anything but the very best way.
And there are a lot more senators then presidents, so you can easily "add" another one without destroying the illusion that the series is playing in our world. Because noone knows all of the senators, but everyone knows the president. Thus you usually rarely show the president, you don't name him, and if you do show him, it's from the back or something like that.

The second point here is definitely true. The first less so. I mean, House of Cards, Scandal, Veep, have five presidents between them, who range from fuckup to catastrophically evil.
You also have a lot more flexibility in storytelling using a senator instead of the President. It's a lot easier to take down a senator. And if your enemy is the President, you start to strain realism if he isn't using every tool possible for a president... which is a lot more than a senator. Senator opponent reads as "politician opponent." Presidential opponent read as "military/espionage/political opponent."

Did u watch the serie 24 with kiefer sutherland? that serie had some shady presidentes of the us and it was severly penalized for that... so yeah, why make a good serie if u are going to get a huge ticket for it.
