I eagerly await as to what the numbers will be on opening weekend in the U.S I don't think it will be neck to neck. Considering how The Dark Knight Rises is suppose to be Nolan's last Batman movie, there is a lot of hype for it. It will beat The Avengers in terms of sales and the records that The Avengers broke. It will be surprising if the two movies ended up making around the same. At the end of the day, I could care less about records and how much money a movie made. What really matters is how the movie turns out. I loved The Avengers and now that it's out of the way, my anticipation is this along with Prometheus.

Anyway I'm super excited for this movie, watched the first two in theaters and although I'm not to thrilled by the trailer, I'm sure Nolan won't disappoint.

That is because the last time the OP was edited/updated was back in 2011. A new clip was shown during the MTV Movie Awards http://batman-news.com/2012/06/03/new-the-dark-knight-rises-footage-mtv-movie-awards-video/ Some new TV commercials

Didn't get around to watching Batman Begins or The Dark Knight until significantly after both were released. I absolutely loved them. Batman Begins was more mindless action (but cool with the trial by... ice and his general development) and The Dark Knight really had that signature Christopher Nolan mind-screwing (arguably yeah, he doesn't make the most intellectual movies out there of course, but he can direct quite interesting/thought-provoking movies yet maintain the appeal to the masses), and I look forward a ton to this ![]()

In other words, I think TDK got a lot more psychological etc, maybe Christopher Nolan was allowed to put some more of his ideas in place and/or felt more comfortable doing so. One thing that has always really bothered me is the fact that Rachel Dawes is played by different actors in BB and TDK, haha. Maybe it's just me >.<

Anyways, I felt like these commercials were a bit too comical. The trailers honestly made me get chills down my spines but these were just a little weird.

If you want an example, look at the third Transformers movie, which made a lot of money despite how "bad" it is. The reason why The Avengers made a lot of money and broke records is because it has been hyped up since the ending of 2008's Iron Man. It was very unique because no one has ever done what Marvel Studios did by having origin story movies leading up to the big event. Besides that, the movie was just overall a solid film. It was a movie that almost everyone can enjoy. It is true that the plot was simple, but it worked. The movie was big enough as it is with so many characters. They did a great job giving each character their own moment and even a story within the overall story for some characters. An example would be Black Widow. We barely knew much about her in Iron Man 2 and a lot of fans didn't like her portrayal by Scar Jo. They did a good job giving her a back story to know more about her. Joss Whedon said the original cut was around the 3 hour mark, but they had to cut some things out. I bet it will be on the blu-ray/DVD release as a director's cut or extended scenes, which might make the movie better than the theatrical release. For anyone that complains about the story or plot have to know that Whedon and Penn combined the original source and the Ultimates for this movie. The story came from the first release of The Avengers comics in the 1960s, so of course it is simple. The story is pretty accurate to the comics, which is rare now a days. Some people would complain that a movie deviates too much from the comics, but when a movie uses the source material in order to be accurate, people still complain. I do think that TDKR will beat The Avengers either by a small margin or half more. The Dark Knight turned out to be a superb film, so TDKR is definitely on people's radar. The fact that it is Nolan's last Batman film gives it even more hype.

Nice summary. Here is a great video of Bale getting emotional during his speech at the MTV Movie Awards. http://www.celebuzz.com/2012-06-03/christian-bale-breaks-down-at-mtv-movie-awards-after-viewing-heath-ledger-in-dark-knight/
