Thread is about the various issues surrounding Japan in the aftermath of the recent earthquake. Don't bring the shit side of the internet to the thread, and post with the realization that this thread is very important, and very real, to your fellow members.
Do not post speculative and unconfirmed news you saw on TV or anywhere else. Generally the more dramatic it sounds the less likely it's true. |

The Chinese and Australian governments, among others have pledged manpower and resources for relief efforts. The US military, has deployed a substantial relief force from the materiel based in Japan. There is also a great deal of domestic disaster relief protocol in place.

Sorta sucks, but I'm hopeful that there'll be less and less racism in the coming years.
At this point most racists are the victims of political campaigns rather than of deep-rooted personal feelings or reasons. Even just having a friend on Facebook is enough to make people rethink their prejudices.

china has a lot of legitimate reason to hate japan.

No, they really don't.
Some very old Chinese have a legitimate reason to hate some very old Japanese. 'China' does not have a reason to hate 'Japan'. Japanese today are not responsible for what happened decades ago.

Born Japanese, Japanese parents, Japanese citizenship, speak, write, and read Japanese as fluently as I do English.
The thing is, I can't apologize for Nanjing without making it sound like an empty formality. No one can.
I should stop responding to these posts; sorry for derailing.
It just upsets me because there's really nothing I can do other than explain that I can't do anything.

http://twitter.com/#!/han_Warai/status/46433669606412289
"It's almost been a full day since the earthquakes began. Has everyone noticed the broadcast stations have not run a single commercial? They're always mentioned as 'garbagecast,' and they're always the target of complaints, like 'who's annoying today?' or 'why're using a helicopter for that?' and receive a lot of criticism for the way they report, but every station has tossed advertisement revenue, costing them 3~8 million a day, and are performing their duties as broadcasting stations."

the japanese government has a choice to redeem themselves of what happened decades ago but chooses not to. I think that's a pretty legit reason.

Yeah, I think that's a big issue. The information about this has been going back and forth. One news outlet will go "OMG MELTDOWN IS HAPPENING" while another simultaneously says there is zero chance of anything happening.
It's literally impossible to know what's really going on right now, and that must suck for Japanese citizens.

The core at Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant's No. 1 reactor may be partially melting, the nuclear safety agency said Saturday.
Radioactive substance cesium was detected around the reactor, it said.

There was a nasally middle school kid streaming NHK yesterday on ustream via his iPhone4. People were worried NHK might shut him down, but NHK ended up linking to the stream on Twitter. There were about 40,000 people watching.
The kid was like "Thank you for the support, NHK. I'm sorry I dissed you earlier, ha ha."
And then he left to get ready for his graduation ceremony while he left his phone and TV on.

Hating people over events from nearly 80 years ago is childish since it's likely 100% of the people spewing the hatred weren't even alive back then to feel the pain of what happened, it's like the stupid pearl harbor thing. It's all children educated in school that 'lol the Japanese did something bad to us' so they're all spewing their garbage facebook bullshit, except now it's the children from China. Disregard it.
