Crisis in Japan - Page 50

Thread is about the various issues surrounding Japan in the aftermath of the recent earthquake. Don't bring the shit side of the internet to the thread, and post with the realization that this thread is very important, and very real, to your fellow members. Do not post speculative and unconfirmed news you saw on TV or anywhere else. Generally the more dramatic it sounds the less likely it's true.

Sounds like they got in under control. not really things are far from being over. it is just that you dont get much information about it. all the experts are really anxious right now. since the cooling system is still not restored and even the cooling fluid is leaking. We will see how it turns out. Japanese nuclear safety measures are not really top-notch. :o

As far as I'm aware, it's basically over with. I'm not sure about the damage it caused, but I don't think it will be causing any more. Last I heard it was hitting Mexico with 20 inch surges, which is nothing. Also, according to BBC the nuclear reactor is still rising in pressure as of like three minutes ago.

(in Japan) I think the BBC said that in some places it went inland for approximately 10 km, in coastal areas of Miyagi prefecture. Most of the water will have receded by now. The true extent of the damage will visible once the sun rises I would guess.

BBC: Some reports from local US media of the tsunami's arrival on the US West Coast: Joe Vazquez from CBS5 tweets: "Second tsunami surge now hitting Santa Cruz. CBS5 reporting a dozen or so sunken boats. County spokesman says at least $2m damage." KGO Radio tweets: "Crescent City OES: All docks are gone after first surge, 35 boats crushed, water starting to fill harbor parking lot."

Not sure, I didn't read it. I was verbally mentioned on a news feed. They may have said "possible", but I thought I heard "probable". This was about five minutes ago.
