Crisis in Japan - Page 104
Forum Index > General Forum |
Thread is about the various issues surrounding Japan in the aftermath of the recent earthquake. Don't bring the shit side of the internet to the thread, and post with the realization that this thread is very important, and very real, to your fellow members. Do not post speculative and unconfirmed news you saw on TV or anywhere else. Generally the more dramatic it sounds the less likely it's true.

The latest eruptions began on January 19, 2011, and the alert level was raised to 3 on January 27.[1] As of February 2011, a lava dome was growing in the volcano's crater.[3] On March 13, 2011, the volcano is reported to have erupted again in the aftermath of 2011 Sendai Earthquake that occurred on March 11. Whether the cause of the eruption is related to the earthquake is still unknown.[4]" It's really not the end of the world. Yet.

The earthquake has seemingly triggered multiple volcanoes in the ring of fire to erupt, if I'm not mistaken. I'm not sure which ones other than one that's erupting in Japan right now, but basically aftershocks are still popping up all over and a few volcanoes have become active (though not major eruptions). EDIT - Seems some of this started before the earthquake, such as Kilauea erupting on the 10th. I know I saw somewhere that there were a couple that started after the quake... trying to find the details. Will post when I do.

The initial Japanese estimate was 8.8. USGS measured 8.9. Further investigation by the Japanese government revealed that it was in fact 3 consecutive quakes measuring 9.0.
