^Maybe the photos don't do it justice. If you would hold it in your hand it wouldn't seem that way, trust me. The finesse and attention to detail is above most of the watches I've seen, including Rolex and Omega.

Seiko higher quality than Rolex? I like Seiko, but come on now...

What the people below you said. Don't mistake Seiko with Grand Seiko. Even the company logo is different (as you can tell from the photos). Plus, when Grand Seiko makes a $6000 watch, you don't expect half of that to be because it's a Grand Seiko, like you would from Rolex/Omega/etc.

Now, don't get me wrong, I love some Omega models, I love the Submariner, but unless you actually held a Grand Seiko or at least did some reading about it, don't underestimate.

Just FYI, Credor (http://www.credor.com/) is a (very small) sub-division of Seiko as well, and they make watches far beyond most of what people generally consider "high-class watches". They are up there with the high-end models from the likes of Patek Phillippe and Audemars Piguet.

Notable examples are the Credor Sonnerie - http://people.timezone.com/mdisher/seiko/0602/sonnerie1lg.jpg and the porcelain-dial one, which I don't know the "name" of, but it's probably one of the most beautiful watches ever made - http://forums.watchuseek.com/attachments/f21/578585d1323915986-most-beautiful-minimalist-japanese-watches-gs-one-them-credor1.jpg

Edit: Found, it's the Credor Eichi. More details about it and credor itself, here - http://www.watchesbysjx.com/2011/12/one-of-finest-finished-watches-in-world.html

Thanks for the clarification I misunderstood Grand Seiko for Seiko.

I got the new Seiko Monster.
I had a friend who was flying over from the US, and there was this offer on Amazon, so, long story short:

It'll be a nice summer watch when the office dress code is khakis and polos. Working my way towards a dressier watch, probably something from Stowa, then maybe an AT8500 next year...

I like how it's a SKX009 that's not made-in-Japan (it would say so on the dial). It's a matter of taste, but I actually like the non-Japanese dials better I have a non-Japanese SKX007 myself that I'm wearing proudly every day (on several NATO straps).

Grand Seiko is so expensive. You can buy multiple high-beat Swiss-movement watches for that money

Also: check out Prometheus watches, from Portugal. They make small batches of custom watches, numbered editions only. They even discuss design details (dial, hands) with potential customers before taking a model in production. Not all watches are pretty (I mostly liked the diver watches they made 2 years ago... that are discontinued :S) but I like the small scale they operate on, and they hit a sweet price point for a decent automatic watch.

Guys without price tags we can't properly evaluate these watches.
The unrealistic sound of these propositions is indicative, not of their utopian character, but of the strength of the forces which prevent their realization.

Prices are not the best measure to evaluate watches because there can be a huge variance in price for the same timepiece.

Retail price, Boutique price, Authorised dealer price, grey market price...

Same brands are notoriously difficult to get discounts on (Rolex) others you can get 20% just by asking.

Some brands have stupidly high msrps such that street prices for their watches are consistently 35% retail (invicta).

Then theres also the second hand market where some watches will appreciate in value.

For example retail for my watch is $875 but i picked it up for about $500 from a grey market dealer.

But without prices you can't even tell the $25 watches from the $2500 watches.

I don't know, a bit gimmicky. I don't really care for their "we got this nice movement that can do alot of things, but we don't want to" approach. To me that's just a misused movement.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. I still really like the design, but was wondering how the internals compare to its (for me at least) steep price. Don't know if it is really quality stuff. Anyone?

I haven't wore a watch in what feels like ages now. My previous watch was a Casio digital one that I loved but battery ran out and eventually I learned how to do without. Nowadays I just use my smartphone or w/e watch that's around me in the workplace. Still, seeing these watches, I'm inclined to buy one now XD

Well, in the watch world that's not really considered "steep". Ronda is a pretty well-known Swiss manufacturer of movements, and I'm getting that it's a quartz so it should last a while.

But yeah, you are paying for the gimmick as well. It should be better than fashion brands like Fossil, but not by much. I would say it's the type of watch you buy if you really like the design. And that's about it.
