Should we next debate the definition of heroism?

I know my next statement is going to make you mad but it needs to be said for people like you.

Since USA had no business to even be in Iraq, every USA soldier that died there is not a hero but an idiot for letting his government send him there.

You can only be a hero if you do something like that in a defensive war. I am sure none of the German soldiers in WWII are called heroes.

Theirs is not to reason why; theirs is but to do and die.

Until you have given the ultimate sacrifice to defend your friends or partners-in-arms or what have you, kindly go away and stop slandering those greater than yourself.

EDIT: To clarify, this is not about some misguided war. War itself can not be heroic, no matter the reason. However, the people themselves who go to war and sacrifice their lives in defense of their friends, not defense of their country, are heroes. Website administrators are not.

All those saying he's a hero might want to muse on the fact he believes in complete freedom of information but the one thing he didn't leak was HIS OWN LOCATION.
So it's ok to jeapordise the safety of other people but not his own safety. He's a hpyocrit.

Many of my friends are in the military, and most of them are in it out of economic need. In fact, the military is largely populated with people who otherwise would not make much money-- so saying they are stupid to fight for their government is not only offensive to those who have died, but ignorant.

Does the Croatian military allow soldiers to pick and choose when they fight? Because maybe, if so, we should start taking lessons from Croatia. Except that Croatia is only 18 years old, has struggled economically, and only recently had an education system that extended to the age of 18. In fact, what you didn't bother to mention is that part of the reason you have a country today is because of that US/UN intervention.

We'll be pressuring him on our on soon, we've never been a country that is scared to seem like a bully. Furthermore, its also a real shame to see so many people who are not US citizens claim that this guy is a hero.... honestly, what has the US done to any of you people in foreign countries? What has the US government actually done to screw up your life or genuinely effect you in any way? As for the first part, so it is OK to kill people because you need money? So how is that different then killing you next door neighbour and taking his money?
EDIT: Actually, if it is OK to do that I am glad they die there as at least they will not be able to spread their DNA... hopefully after enough of these wars all the idiots will die.

Let me get this straight: you know everything you know about the United States from reading, and that is legitimate information. But everything I know about Croatia is from the same source, but I am stupid. Are you starting to get a sense of just how much you know about America?

The second part is so wrong I will not spend a second to educate you, you schools should have done that.

Yeah, unfortunately we had more important subjects to learn about than Croatia (as you will find is the case of any citizen of any country outside of Croatia)
Oh, yea, I forgot, random US citizen on the street has no clue who is the president of your country

Unfortunately for you, I am not a random US citizen on a street; I hold an advanced degree. Do you?

Would love to see a source for that statement, too.

As for the first part, so it is OK to kill people because you need money? So how is that different then killing you next door neighbour and taking his money?

Ok to kill people because you need money? Do you mean ok to be in the military? Considering statistically only about 15 percent of soldiers actually fire their weapons to hit someone, and that most of the military is usually not engaged in any sort of combat, I really don't think anyone signed up to kill people. That's like saying police officers sign up to shoot people, when most of them go their entire careers without using their weapon in the line of duty.

You are obviously very young or trolling if you don't understand that people in the military are not allowed to just leave, nor are they allowed to disobey orders. Furthermore, you are forgetting that the American public, including the lowest members of the military, were not aware that Iraq was not the best justified war in the world (I disagree with invading Iraq, but hesitate in saying it was completely unjustified, because after all Hussein was not the best leader in the world either).

Better than being Germany's doormat throughout all of modern history. Not to mention that in return for that service, those "poor ppl" get a free education and are going to be on the top of the stack of applications for every job they apply for once they get out.

Lol, so he is supposed to be acting stupid because you want him to?

Why should he do that when these allegations are obviously bogus?
Why should he trust in the system when they are USING the system against him?!

I bet he only turned him self in now so people like you cannot call him a coward or whatever. Actually you managed to accomplish the goal or flushing him out.
He is an even greater Hero for doing this. I probably would not have done it.

Don't pretend Assange didn't sacrifice his personal life for the cause he believes in.

I didn't realize that sacrificing a personal life (by which apparently you mean constant media attention and guest-spots on American television) was the same as dying.

Irrelevant, unnecessary, and hilariously wrong.

That's your opinion. For me, Assange has done far more.

Should we next debate the definition of heroism?

Don't try to pretend Assange didn't sacrifice his personal life for the cause he believes in.

I didn't realize that sacrificing a personal life (by which apparently you mean constant media attention and guest-spots on American television) was the same as dying.

It's not, but it can be just as meaningful or require just as much sacrifice. I do not mean this to be blunt or disrespectful in any way but death lasts an instant, but what people seem to forget is that a life-long goal or dedication lasts a lifetime.
It is a sign of strength to cry out against fate, rather than to bow one's head and succumb.

All those saying he's a hero might want to muse on the fact he believes in complete freedom of information but the one thing he didn't leak was HIS OWN LOCATION.
So it's ok to jeapordise the safety of other people but not his own safety. He's a hpyocrit.

Lol, so he is supposed to be acting stupid because you want him to?

So releasing information that could lead to him being hurt is stupid?
You're saying it makes sense not to publish information that in the hands of a minority of unstable people could lead to innocent people being harmed.

I rest my case.

If countries didn't have anything to hide there would be nothing to fear from this guy
