One soldier is verified dead. I believe some people are in a coma.

Has anybody heard of what China, Japan, or U.S has said in response?

SK has got more to lose. Even if SK win, I wanna remind you that NK has not just nuclear weps, but also biochemical weps and Seoul is in their range. South Korea has already returned fire. I believe no news station has mentioned how did SK return fire. If it was nothing serious then things should calm down really soon. I hope. I just read either in wall street journal or CNN that SC scambled jets and returned fire
I assume you meant SK... I really hope this is just the media blowing things out of proportion for the sake of sensationalism.

I love how everyone turns into a military/political analyst in these kind of threads >_>.

I am gonna give my final thought on this.
SK has the worst political and geographical Position one can imagine. they have with NK a potencial crazy Neighbour who always seek to provoke or attaks and then uses up Excuses.
Sure SK could retaliate and start a War which could quickly derail into even WW. On the other Side you also have to consider, should SK always take this kind of actions for a Given possible loose massive Ressources and also Lifes of their ppl for some antics of their crazy Neighbour should they just take it and do nothing as much as I want peace I dont think so.
and what about that dead Soldier, Friends, Family getting a nice little letter saying your ... died for the Fartherland but we cant avenge him cause we have to look out for the peace of the World.
Worst political Situation for SK one can think of.

Would those who are currently in Korea comment on what the situation is like? According to posts on Reddit from those living in SK, people are just going about their way as if nothing happened(???).

F22 RAPTORs from US military bases in Japan are currently standing by in the sky of SK. Any further provocation will not be tolerated, I think.

All signs point to NK not stopping the random attacks. With the recent revelation of NK's new uranium enrichment plant, I'd say taking action faster while SK side still has leverage would be a better idea than to wait for NK to develop their own nukes. SK really doesn't want to go into a war with NK. It's actually better for them to lose a ship here and there than to go to war. They preffer to wait it out till NK changes it's policy.
Do that many people actually believe that NK will change their policies anytime soon? Without a coup detat it aint happening. Unless the next heir apparent Kim Jong-un is a swell guy and he thinks what his Dad's been doing is bad, which I highly doubt.
