It'd be like the illegal immigration stuff in North America if instead of Mexico, a fairly prosperous country relatively speaking, the U.S. bordered Ethiopia.
True, but I don't think you understand that any potential refugees fleeing during war would be fleeing because, well, their country is a goddamn warzone with bullets flying everywhere.
It doesn't matter how prosperous a country is, when it becomes a war zone everybody is getting the hell out.

we all know the drill here. SK hands are tied, so NK will toy 'em till the day they cross a line the all the world cant ignore :<

I know I'm pretty edgy, but screw you, "nothing has happened since the ARTILLERY ATTACK..."
that really sucks ... I hope everything just blows over, and that there are no more injuries/deaths/casualties, whatever you want to call them, we can all agree that 0 is the best # of them.
I fail to see how the United States would benefit from war, it's pretty obvious that war is extremely costly in the modern age, from both a ... war sucks stance, and a monetary/what do I have to gain stance.

The real question is; Will Obama find his testicles and kill some North Koreans.

Anyways I am pretty annoyed at the South Korean leadership. I know that conscription/military service is a part of life in that country and that they are a very proud people but they treat their soldiers like shit. 50 dead in a boating accident, getting shot at in a guard post then 4 dead and houses on fire in artillery attack? In any other country, a sunken warship, 50 dead soldiers and an attack on soil would be enough to resume a war. The response of the south koreans just amazes me. Its like a huge cultural wall for me to even try to understand why they won't fight back. Are soldiers lives really that expendable that you can afford a few dead here and there for "peace".
So what do you suggest they do? Call a war and kill more soldiers? No.

Think about that again...
What would happen to the soldiers if they actually "fought back" ?

Seriously just stop talking. This isn't a thread for infantile bullshit geopolitics 101. your elitism is so much better than my "infantile bullshit geopolitics." I'm just presenting an alternate, plausible view. as someone who is from China and visits it regularly I can say with certainty you can never trust the Chinese government. Only it's not plausible at all. Not trusting the Chinese government isn't the same as what you said. China didn't and doesn't want a war. Do you have some sort access to privileged information? Because just because the Chinese governments says they dont' want war doesn't mean anything. First, I already said you shouldn't trust them and second no one is going to announce war without attacking first.

sure this is a problematic case here and my deepest sympathy to all so far injured and dead people...
but everyone who said this will probably start ww3 and was seriuos is just an idiot pretty sure this is not even close to a possible war between nk and sk here...
+ Show Spoiler +thousands dying to many other conflicts just in one day and people are inappropriately panicing and overhyping of (and i'm talking about the comparison not the incident itself! i really have respect about that) ridiculous stuff...

My condolences to the people afraid for their lives in Korea right now. Nah actually if the war starts China will have to divert a lot resources towards defend from possible invasion from US. So China will surely wont be as much of economical superpower as it is now. US wins.

You realize Seoul is within NK's artillery range yes?
Knowing this would you start a war with North korea who has nothing to lose compared to SK? and what would SK gain from this war?

A part of me wants a war to liberate the north korean people.
It's so sad how a few people can condemn an entire nation. What's sadder is that they're not even smart enough to move to capitalism in a peaceful fashion.
