I truly the DPRK collapses somehow without the need for millions of deaths. After watching a couple of these documentaries, it's terrible to see how most North Koreans live. Even the upper class. I really had no clue that such oppression still existed in today's world...

"After South Korea-U.S. Drills, Now it’s Japan’s Turn"
Joint naval drills in the Yellow Sea by South Korea and the U.S. this week took on special significance, coming just days after a deadly attack on a small South Korean island by North Korea.
Now it’s Japan’s turn to show off its close military ties with the U.S.
Japan’s Self-Defense Forces will conduct large-scale joint military exercises with the U.S. between Dec. 3 and 10, sending numerous ships and aircrafts out into the waters and airspace surrounding Japan. According to the SDF, some 34,100 troops from Japan will participate in the drills, along with 10,400 from the U.S.
The two nations have held nine similar events since 1986, but this time, Tokyo is particularly keen to play it up. In the 50th anniversary year of the U.S.-Japan security alliance, it wants to underline how important the tie is – an idea it has a hard time selling to some in the population.

N. Korea deploys more multiple-launch rockets
http://english.yonhapnews.co.kr/news/2010/12/02/0200000000AEN20101202009300315.HTML
W7VOA Steve Herman Yonhap quotes source saying #DPRK recently increased number of multiple-launch rockets by 100 pieces to some 5,200 which can hit Seoul.
On a side note, this might piss of nk even more:
"Japan Defense Ministry confirms KEEN SWORD underway -- largest ever joint drill with U.S. forces."

100 rockets to 5 200?!? Holy shite, they're looking pretty serious about this!

Thats what we've been saying when this thread started...but they keep doing more.
I wouldn't be surprised if an actual war would happen very soon. N.K. was flexing its penis, but now China isn't backing up N.K., so N.K. might be making its last stand. We have the aircraft carrier. It could very well happen it seems. I just hope they make sure Seoul doesn't get fucked 50 different ways.

nk made a threat saying that next time won't be an island, but the they would attack directly into the mainland.

I don't think they'll go through with anything now that they realize China isn't backing them and SK/US would invade them if NK attacked.....NK is probably just going to collapse and be reformed rather than start a war and be reformed. That's just what I think.

Threat, yes, empty threat? I don't know, but I think NK is just crazy enough to do it.

I think there's a possibility, I just don't think it's likely according to past NK history...so many years of empty threats. He's definitely stupid and crazy enough to do it.....I agree with you on that. Kim Jong Il is a crazy egotistical maniac; he probably thinks he's actually a God among Korea.
|
With China backing North Korea, NK can do empty threats and get away with it. Now that NK has no China, I would think it is possible for Kim to go all-in because NK will fall eventually. And I never recalled NK doing these many threats in such a short time span.
|
I say we give it till the 10th of December, which is when the drills end in SK. If nothing happens by then, it's probably a safe assumption that NK is backing down.

has anyone checked out North Korea's official website? i stumbled upon this when i started writing a paper about korean reunification.
http://www.korea-dpr.com/ocn
it's full of juicy propaganda, almost never refers to the US without the prefix "imperialist-". almost none of the 'news' articles refer to interkorean violence, the latest published just two days ago is an account of the WPK 65th anniversary celebration where the world confirmed the kim jong un would be kim jong il's successor.
