You do realize that it's impossible to detonate a nuke without everyone knowing right? We can easily detect the seismic disturbance caused by a multi-kiloton blast and have been for many decades. You're right that we couldn't take NK's word for it, but the point is mute as we heard their first attempt fuzz out at 500t and an actual blast since then.
Yes, that was what i was kinda wondering here. So you can't for example "make" up with some other bombs a blast what would seem to be a nuclear bomb of some kind?
As i said, im not an expert.

That doesn't mean they couldnt cause tons of damage. They easily have the firepower to do grave damage to a good portion of the korean peninsula. Wrong, right now they have between 8-12, fully equipped nukes, at least. Okay, i was reading your posts about the lasers etc with open mind, but now you are just sounding really strange. Please, show us some legit sources about this. As far as i know, they've been doing research study etc and all kind of small drills, but no fully equipped nukes yet. Why not read what I say and then fucking google it? It might save time. All of this has been covered extensively recently. Jesus. I've read news and stuff but i haven't heard anything about fully equipped nukes. Now you say they do have them, even more than one, but not giving any legit sources about it. Its nice that you give us really insight info about these things, but atleast put up some sources for people and don't ask people to find themselves.
Uhh... this really isn't news. Nuke-tipped ICBMs are nowhere near confirmed, but it's not much of a stretch. They most certainly have the ability to hit targets in SK, Japan, other neighbouring countries with hundreds of Scud-derived missiles. Even discounting nukes, NK has large stockpiles of chemical/biological WMDs that they can deploy on those missiles. Both Japan and SK do possess a degree of missile shield protection though with Aegis-equipped vessels, along with the considerable US fleet presence.

I havent seen anything that says DPRK has the ability to use a nuclear weapon. Detonating a bomb and actually putting it to use is completely different. AFAIK they have no armed ballistic nuclear missiles, and they cant just throw one in a plane and hope it'll work.
Though i could be completely wrong. I havent been informed on this subject in a while.

N.korea has nuclear weapons. Making bombs to sit at home isn't exactly the goal of them is it?
They supposedly can't attack broad international targets but they surely could destroy s.korea.
Star wars defence ftw!

I asked my International Relations professor about this yesterday and he said that whilst North Korea doesnt have ICBMs it does have the ability to hit reach as far as Japan and Australia.
He also seemed to the that as long as Kim Jong-il is alive there wont be any war since his past actions havnt been those of a blind idealogue but a pragmatic survivor like a Stalin character. This is just my own thoughts but I think that if Kim Jong-il dies his son will have to show his power to the generals which might either be a nuclear weapons test or if he really is bat shit insane an all out war. Or possibly the generals start a war unilaterally.
Anyway I dont think there is any chance of war actually breaking out especially because the Chinese are probably making sure Kim doesnt do anything stupid. A war in Asia is not something China wants and North Korea follows what China does.

It's still possible that he could be in a situation where he has no good choice available though. We can't really say because we have no inside information on the matter. Just hoping that's not the case, and that he knows it.

Kim Jong-Il is dying. He needs to prove his son is the proper successor to the dictatorship. This is all for show. There is absolutely positively no way N.K. can go to war without being decimated to the ground. Not even China would be enough to prevent this. N.K is just flexing its muscles to put his son in the spotlight. They just named him the "King of Artillery Tactics"
This is all for show. relax. If N.K. attacks the George Washington N.K will no longer be a country.
Actually, Countries like China, N.K. Japan, etc. Really can't go to war anymore. Unless they are in absolute control. Their countries have such high population densities and their locations of economic growth are so central. A single bombing run into China would set the chinese back so far they could never recover. NKs entire defense systems could be taken out in a single strike. The western world, consisting of france, germany, the UK, Canada and others are too spread out. There's just no way they could handle the logistics of it. This isn't the 1930s anymore.
South Korea has nothing to worry about except some military deaths and maybe some small damage. Nothing that North Korea hasn't done to them over the last 50 years anyway. This is no different. NO ONE IS GOING TO SIDE WITH NORTH KOREA.
THe whole fucking world knows they are insane. Kim Jong-Il wont be making friends with any middle eastern attack forces either. They are incredibly focused on the "North Korean Gods" they wont accept help from non-asians, I'm almost certain of it.

Yea one doesn't attack a United States aircraft carrier lightly... that is for certain.

There won't be conflict and, like always, the lack of backbone shown by South Korean and by extension American politicians towards the Korean situation will result in North Korea once again getting away with yet another violation of South Korea's rights. And the West will continue sending food aid and humanitarian aid because the prevailing view still holds that using such aid as a weapon just doesn't seem "right".
The Korean situation has always been the tension between the desire to avoid conflict and the breaking point of how much blatant abuse and how many clear acts of aggression the South will tolerate.
And it'll happen again and again and again until either North Korea collapses under its own weight or they cross the hazy line that would result in a serious South Korean response.
Now, if you had Israeli politicians in charge of South Korea you'd have a very very different looking peninsula.

Yeah but something is telling me they're so far out of reality that they'd be dumb enough to attack SK again.
