I bought the Senheiser 166 USB and I <3 them. :D

How do the DT250 sound? The DT250s have a very flat response..meaning that nothing is really emphasised. In other words Mids, Treble and Bass are all equal as they are a "studio" headphone. Saying that I listen almost primarily to Drum and Bass and it sounds GREAT, probably not as good as my DT 770 pros but they're BASS monsters. A good benefit of the DT250s is you don't need an amp..as long as you get the 80 Ohm(Ω) version.

I listen almost exclusively to dnb and hip hop and I've always had "flat" earphones (at least I believe most gaming headsets sound that way?) and new in-ears have a very flat sound as well. I don't really know how bass-heavy earphones sound. :s

I bought my DT 770 pros for listening to DnB as they are a very Bassy headphone, but unfortunately you do need an amplifier for those for them to sound their best.

I'm a bit spoilt where I am, my local headphone store will let you try basically any headphone you want which is awesome. I bought my DT 770 pros for listening to DnB as they are a very Bassy headphone, but unfortunately you do need an amplifier for those for them to sound their best. I think my possibilities of trying out headsets are quite limited. I'm afraid I'll have to make my decision based on recommendations and reviews alone.

When I first started buying headphones I did exactly the same and I've been able to make good decisions based almost purely off reviews and recommendations. http://www.head-fi.org is a great site that can give you information on absolutely everything related to headphones. http://headphones.com.au is another website I use(primarily because this is the store I purchase my gear from, but the owner is very helpful and it has a lot of good information on their forum)

Thanks for all the help! Edit: After reading some reviews I've decided to buy the DT770 Pro. Should I get the 250 or the 80 ohm model? Can anyone recommend me a good amplifier that works well with them? I've tried searching but people seem to have very diverse opinions so I couldn't really settle for one.

Out of curiosity, which amps have you seen recommended for them? Were any of them tube amps?

I want to buy these headphones: + Show Spoiler + ![]() but I'm afraid it might be one of those "stylish, overpriced items" not worth my money. It's pretty expensive at $170.00 and listening to music just a hobby (pretty big hobby though). Does the increase in music quality justify the extra cost or should I not worry about such an expensive luxury and settle for cheaper headphones? If so, could you guys recommend me a set of cheap headphones that doesn't sacrifice too much quality?

Try Beyerdynamic DT770/80 PROs, Audiotechnica ATH-M50s, or Shure SRH440's. First one is about the same price, but 100x better quality while still having lots of bass. Other two are cheaper and I'd say still have better sound quality than the Beats.

Running out of power/current/volts and clipping is probably not an issue with the iPod for lower (some say reasonable, others say not enough) listening levels on more dynamically compressed music. Out of curiosity, which amps have you seen recommended for them? Were any of them tube amps? I most likely won't be using them for my iPod. Is the 80 ohm model still better? I don't remember the name of any of the amplifiers - that's kind of the problem. Everyone prefered different amps. I recall that someone recommended meier audio, that's about it .

If you buy the 32 Ohm version it will be fine without an amp. It may not go QUITE as loud as you want them, but it should be good enough. If its not good enough or anything, just invest in a small, portable amp like the FiiO E7 (or E9/E7 combo) and you'll be more than pleased.
