Passive isolation is better because it blocks more noise and doesn't murder your sound quality.

Got the classic Siberia v2. I wanted to buy a good headphone but I won the Siberia in a LAN, so...

hmm, ive heard mostly good things so far. But i gota agree the sound quality is that of a cheaper headphone but still decent. The price is in the noise cancelling. For music, studying, games its good?

For over $100 I would try the SRH-440, ATH-A700 or M50 before these. They have better SQ and block more noise.
If you wanna stay with SONY there's the MDRZX700 which is excellent.

So I'm probably gonna get some Sennheiser cx 300 II
I need them (or something similar) for flying. Mostly to block out ambient noise at the airports and on flights. Also I want to avoid having sound bleed out of them so other people can hear what I'm listening to. Will these do that?
What are other alternatives?
Not too worried about sound quality as it's for traveling and it's going to be used with an mp3 player so the sound can only get so good.

I'm sporting a pair of AKG K701 and Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO 80ohm powered by the Fiio E9 with the E7 working as a DAC through USB. I mostly just use the Beyers because they work absolutely magnificent for most purposes - movies, music and games. The AKG K701 is used when I feel like firing up some lossless jazz or classical music, such detail... I'm sure I could get an amp that's better than the Fiio, but at the moment I can't afford to get something like the Heed CanAmp to really crank out the potential my AKG has.
Even though the Beyers are of the closed sort, I could still hear stuff happening around me (without blasting the volume to 11, mind you) so I'm considering buying another pair that really blocks out noise. A friend of mine has the Audio Technica ATH-M50 and they seem to get the job done, great quality build/soundwise and not too expensive either.

![[image loading]](http://www.denondj.com/Assets/DImages/Products/Images/DNHP700_1_s.jpg) I own Dennon DJ HP700's they are pretty decent for sound quality, when im looking for excellent quality I hook them up to my M-audio fast track ultra. Wich provides excellent sound combining the 2. Most of the time i like to listen to things on my 5.1 surround sound system though and the M-audio fast track ultra isnt really for that so i usually have all my sound hooked up to my 7.1 sound card in my computer.

Very rich sounds when i have everything set up properly though weather that be through my speakers or my headphones, im pretty happy with my set up overall.

I would be surprised if you could find something audibly more accurate than the E7 / E9. Other products might sound different and some might like their sound better, but most audiophile products won't be as close to the source material. Some amps or DACs may measure more accurately, but this should be to the point where it's pretty much impossible to A/B distinguish them in a blind test. That is, as long as you're at the point where the E9 is not clipping (K701 and DT770 Pro 80 are no problem and should run out of excursion by the time the amp does).
As for isolation...DT770 Pro 80 is about as good as circumaural headphones get for isolation, though a few sets do a little bit better. You're looking for deep-insertion IEMs like the Etymotics if you want better passive noise attenuation.

I see... Gonna look up some reviews of Etymotics products on Head-Fi - do you have any products you can recommend? Thanks for your input btw! I'm probably just gonna leave my headset rig as it is now, content with how it's performing at the moment anyway. :p

My ATH-A900
![[image loading]](http://www.cnet.co.uk/i/c/blg/cat/digitalmusic/ath-a900/audio-technica_ath-a900_ears-on_main.jpg) And getting a behringer HA400 microamp. I was wondering what you guys think about it (just ordered it randomly cauz i need an amp)

I got a couple of pairs of headphones. Sennheiser 212HD Pro - These sound good but the construction is flimsy. The cable is about as thin as it can get although bonus marks for allowing the cable to plug/unplug from the earpieces. The earpieces can also uncouple from the headband if you wish. They don't go to a very high volume but overall they are pretty good for home listening.
Also got a pair of US made KOSS ones lying around that i bought for the sole reason the sennheisers would not take sufficient volume when DJing and the koss had better noise cancellation. The cable is more heavy duty than the sennheiser. The headphones aren't really that comfortable and are a little too bassy but for mixing they are decent.

Any other suggestions without going any more expensive or are these very good? + Show Spoiler + As you see i have both logitech g35 and sennheiser pc360. I recommend the g35, because they are much better in volume, bass, utilities and a bit cheaper. The only thing about pc360 is that they are much lighter and cooler. Very disappointed investing 200 Euros. The akg k518 are actually much better in hearing music and the pmx adidas are excellent for their purpose.
Edit I would like some opinion on an amplifier around 200-300 euros. The Fiio 5 was a disappointment, so atm I use a 30 year old sony, which I found in the attic and works ok so far :p

Based on PWN3R3D's and pirouni's recent comments, I have some generic advice about amps that you're free to disagree with.
Before buying one, you should ideally have an idea of what you are expecting it to do. "Everyone else has one" is a fine reason, but that's not a real justification. A different amp may improve the sound quality by providing a cleaner signal that's closer to the input signal. It also may be able to provide more power (before clipping and distorting heavily), and it's well documented that more volume makes anything sound better.
Many audiophile products are not geared towards accurate sound reproduction, as strange as that might sound at first. If you're interested in trying out different products to look for different types of colorations (distortions), that's cool. For example, a lot of people like tube amps, because they often add more harmonics to the original signal (as well as other things). These can make music sound better, depending on how they interact with your headphones and your preferences.
If you're interested in accurate sound reproduction, unfortunately, practically nobody actually tests these things. It's hard to figure out what's decent. I keep linking this blog, but that's because it contains very good information and reviews from an electrical engineer specializing in audio (unlike me--I'm an electrical engineer specializing in something else, that still thinks he knows what he's talking about ).
About headphone amps, why they might be needed, what makes some better than others, and what they do: http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/2011/02/gain-and-headphone-ampsdacs.html http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/2011/02/headphone-amp-impedance.html
Based on the review of the Fiio E5 and E7 (competent products for the price), I'm fairly convinced that Fiio knows what they're doing in terms of providing faithful sound reproduction. So the E9 is likely good. Most pro sound companies have decent products as well. Behringer HA400 is a mystery, but the USB UCA202 was reviewed.
For a Sennheiser PC360 (also for the ATH-A900), you don't need all the power of an expensive desktop amp. In fact, you might run into channel balance issues at the low range of the volume knob. Fiio E7 has enough power for those, easily, unless you really need the volume to go to about 117 dB SPL. There may be other products as well.

Thank you both

So I'm looking for a decent pair of headsets to replace my current generic 35 dollar Logitech ones. after about a year of use I'm having trouble with the cord, if its not bent / tilted the right ways I'll lose sound from one or both ears, pretty annoying. Mainly looking for comfort and durability (so I don't get this problem again anytime soon), sound quality is nice but I'm not really demanding in that regard. *note: Microphone mandatory, price range $100-ish max.
Suggestions welcome, atm I'm considering these from Razer cause I know the brand: http://store.razerzone.com/store/razerusa/en_US/pd/productID.169415800/categoryId.35096300

Will be buying the AKG K 701 headphones next month (£200 amazon), alongside the Matrix m-stage Headphone Amp (£175 ebay), what are your guys opinions on this combo, I feel that compared to other products it's very cheap and both have outstanding reviews.

M50 is OK at blocking noise. If you like listening to your music loud like I do, sound will leak.

Don't like the 701 very much. It's pretty bad with electronic music. Didn't like the AD900 for that reason too.
