There's a sale going on. Interesting...
I'm pretty happy with my current amp. I do own the HD650 - not sure if this would be an upgrade.
Edit: Demoninja, do I need to solder anything myself to put it together? I don't think I'm skilled enough to put this together.

you have to put it together yourself so you'll need a soldering kit. I believe there is one you can buy that's pre made but it costs a good amount more. FWIW, all the reviews i've read have mentioned how great of a pairing it is.

Is there a guide on how to do this?
Man, it's a pretty good deal. Sale is for the whole week btw.

Apparently it comes with a step by step manual with pics

I'm lucky I dont have the desk space for more gear at the moment. If I was going to get a tube amp, it'd probably be something like one of the following since I'm lazy wa3

currently wanting this right now HA-1

I'm actually saving up for a Woo Audio myself. Will be getting the WA2 for the Beyer T1. I have the Questyle CMA800R, which sounds great with the HE500 and HD650, but not so much with the T1. I figure the T1 will sound best with an OTL tube amp.
Has anyone tried the new Schiit Ragnarok?

Hmm.. does it really make much of a difference? Amps past a certain point all sound the same right?
I can see DACs scaling but I mean amps...

the tube rolling community on head-fi seems pretty active so i think the answer to your question is no

how can you see dacs scaling but not amps... ? that doesnt seem to make sense

Can a pair of headphones be driven "better" past a certain point? (I'm asking seriously. My knowledge of physics with regard to this is limited.)
Edit: What I'm trying to say is, once the headphones get enough juice, isn't that all there is to it?

Yeah you'd have to put it together but I heard people say it's a beginner level project so you shouldn't have any problems. I do have experience with soldering though so I'm not worried about it. They don't provide a physical guide but they take you to a page to download a PDF when you purchase.

I would just get another pair of s4's. They go on sale so often.

Haven't used the cx300 but I can vouch for cx200. Very decent for the price and lasted me quite a while before breaking (note that I use it on the commute, inside my pocket, etc.)

I just use my marshmallows for on the go
I'm still haven't fixed my GR-07 yet

I point isn't that amping isn't necessary but that past a certain point, -most- headphones won't scale with a better amp. (That's probably true with DACs as well so I should retract my earlier statement.) My experience is a little bit limited but take my ATH-m50s for example. I can't tell the difference between having it plugged into a proper desktop amp and a relatively entry level one.

My Sennheiser HD555s broke (got stepped on :<), if anyone has suggestions for a replacement, same style (open air) with a better build quality (less plastic) in the ~$300 range, I would appreciate it. I don't mind closed style either, mainly just want something a little more durable, that sounds good.
