RE0 is known to have durability issues - not built that well, break easily (for its price). But it has very very clear sound. Bass is clear, but there is not a lot of it, so if you're a basshead, stay away from the RE0. If you want a flat response (bass, mids, and treble are all around even) then this is your heaadphone. I love the RE0, but yes it does have durability issues. You are covered from that for a year since there's a one year warrenty.

Recommendations anyone? Check this site out for cool looking headphones. Don't buy from here though, you can get much better prices elsewhere. http://www.audiocubes.com/index.php?cPath=23

Please do a little bit of research before you buy these , as I've heard that they have a certain sound signature. I am switching between sennheiser hd 555´s and an old Creative Inspire 5.1 Sound System. I can really recommend the headphones, the creative system was great once, but now that 3/5 boxes died because of frequently dropping them on the ground (cables ftl) i prefer the headphones over anything.

But you bought it for $59. It's not the retail price but it's the sale price.

I've been reading that the PC350 uses the same drivers, but in a closed set.
So if you're looking for a sweet headset+sound card, consider the Xonar Xense bundle.

Well, i see the headphones you have there are computer ones, but are there any like those that are for ipods/mp3 players minus the mic?
Also, is that a quote of me i see in your signature?

most of the headphones in this thread you can use with most mp3 players. to be sure, just check the specifications; look for an entry with 'impedance', anything less than 70 ohms (most of the headphones in this thread) should be fine.
hd555, ath-a700 are popular choices
and yes, its your quote

Actually, i googled around and asked in IRC, and i came across these Sennheiser HD 428s.
http://www.sennheiser.ca/live/senn/produit/en/1184/43
They are within my price range, and apparently are durable which is a big thing for me. Would you reccomend these headphones, or something else around the same price?
I still facepalm that i said that though.

Well, to be more accurate, you want to look at impedance and sensitivity. Nominal sensitivity (the actual value depends on frequency and a couple other minor details) is usually given in dB / mW or dB / V.*** Something with lower impedance and higher sensitivity will sound louder at a given volume setting of your computer or mp3 player. 95-100 dB / mW is a typical value. Some headphones from a couple of decades ago are below 90 dB / mW, most higher-end headphones are in the 90's, and most earphones are in the 100's or 110's.
The value is the SPL produced per mW of input power. Most portable players can output at least something like 1-30 mW, as a ballpark estimate, depending on the amplifier chip used and the impedance of the output device. The output capability for most of those designs usually decreases as the load (headphones) impedance increases.
For reference, if you listen for several hours, about 85-90 dB is the maximum limit of how loud you're supposed to listen, according to OSHA/NIOSH.
So you should be fine volume-wise with most all sets of headphones.
***Note: in audio land, dB is referring to dB (SPL -- sound pressure level), referenced to 0 dB SPL being the quietest sound humans can hear.
edit: FYI, Sennheiser usually quotes sensitivity in dB / V, which gives a higher figure than dB / mW. Both are valid measures, and you could convert between the two if you wanted, by looking up the impedance.

Hey guys, I'm in need a quality headset with a mic that's clear and noise canceling -- something good enough to do a podcast with. If it were compatible with PS3 that would be a nice plus as well.
Any good mic headsets? I have a nice speaker system so a balling pair of surround sound whatever isn't what I'm looking for. I'm primarily interested in the mic.

I heard the HD 428 has good clear mids and highs some say the highs are a bit sharp but it could be personal preference However, I also read that the bass on it is lacking though Good Luck finding a headphone~

Thanks for the advice guys, I finally decided these seem like the best bang for buck deal: Audio-Technica ATH-M50 Studio Monitor Headphones.
I plan to listen to them with my iPhone and computer, I'm assuming an amp would be overkill for the kind of listening that I'll be doing?
|
Just wanted to stop by this thread and say I just picked up the HD555s for $60 on Amazon and performed the HD595 conversion mod. WOW.
I don't think I could've recommended them "vanilla" (pre-mod) as both low and upper range sounds were muted and indistinct compared to my UE Superfi 5 in ear. However, after the mod, the low-end is actually astonishingly crisp and the high end vastly improved.
They are also quite comfy.

A separate amp outside of the amp section in the iPhone and the computer would be unnecessary for listening at sufficient volumes with the ATH-M50. Granted, a better amp may drive the headphones a little bit more accurately or differently.
I'm not sure if that addresses your question of overkill or not. The ATH-M50 is not a headphone that people say "needs an amp" generally.

I finally received the headphones that I ordered and i am over 9000% satisfied! I want to thank ieatkids5 for helping me out.
My headphones are the Koss ksc75 and they were 14 dollars at amazon.com w/ free shipping. ![[image loading]](http://www.audiologies.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/kossksc75.jpg)
These are the go to cheap headphones that almost every experienced audiophile would recommend. They rival anything under 100 dollars and are the best method to get started on high quality sound. Things to note are that these are open haedphones meaning that they don't isolate sound. Isolation generally reduces sound quality, but are good for places like an airplane or the office. If you only plan on using them in your quiet room then I would always go with open. They are clip on which may be uncomfortable for some people, but they are fine on my ears. There are like 2 dollar headphone bands that you can attach the drivers to if needed. These headphones are a little less bassy than its counterpart the koss ksc35 but offer better defined highs and lows.
I'd recommend everyone own a pair even if you have some really nice cans. They aren't even comparable to apple earbuds and less than half the price while still being portable. No amp is required so just plug in and enjoy .
Btw i wrote this little guide because I am deeply grateful for all the help I received here and I just wanted to give back.
