Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever.
Heard about this about a half hour ago... really made me sad. He really IS a legend. All my friends got to see him play one of his last live shows last year with Heaven & Hell @ Sonisphere Festival, said he was amazing. RIP Sir.
When there's lightning - it always bring me down Cause it's free and I see that it's me Who's lost and never found I cry for magic - I feel it dancing in the light But it was cold - I lost my hold To the shadows of the night
There's no sign of the morning coming You've been left on your own Like a Rainbow in the Dark
Do your demons - do they ever let you go When you've tried - do they hide -deep inside Is it someone that you know You're a picture - just an image caught in time We're a lie - you and I We're words without a rhyme
There's no sign of the morning coming You've been left on your own Like a Rainbow in the Dark
When there's lightning - it always brings me down Cause it's free and I see that it's me Who's lost and never found Feel the magic -feel it dancing in the air But it's fear - and you'll hear It calling you beware
There's no sign of the morning coming There's no sight of the day You've been left on your own Like a Rainbow in the Dark
I honestly died thought he already died like four months ago... I guess it was just a rumor. I've already done my grievances but this only opens the wound again. RIP!

That's pretty much what I was aiming at.
He was so much more than Heaven & Hell (Black Sabbath album or the later band) though, I mean, without him we wouldn't have our \m/ in Metal, that alone should suffice to show how important this man was for our beloved music genre.
RIP DIO See you in metal heaven... or Hell! But really I hope when all these legends die... it will leave space for newcomers with talent to be recognized. BUT GOD WHY COULDNT IT HAVE BEEN METALLICA!? take them instead!

You should keep your thoughts to yourself asshole.

Even if you don't like his music, a person just died, grow up. I don't care if you're a troll, just...go away.
RJD was a fantastic singer and, from everything I've heard, an all-around nice guy. He had an unbelievable life, and it's sad to see a talent and a person like that go.
I'm glad I had the chance to see him perform live a few years ago.
Wow, didn't see this coming at all... Didn't know he was sick... Great musician, and a respectable man in every respect. Still quite young too. Makes me really sad even if I never properly met him.
Something's calling me back Like a light in the black Yes I'm ready to go I'm coming home

For once, I am not trolling.
His music is absolutely terrible. Sad that I am a person has died, I was merely expressing my distaste for such shitty tunes.

I can agree that his music is not for everyone.
But you're still being a total asshole in this thread.

This thread is in no need of your ignorance.
On topic. I am very sad to see Dio pass away. Such a great vocalist and frontman. R.I.P. Ronnie James Dio
I don't even like old-school metal and Dio ruled. Holy Diver is so heavy for his time, and I'm pretty sure that he introduced viking/slaying themes to metal, which in and of itself, helped make metal an adjective rather than just a genre.
He was a great singer with a strong influence on his fans and enormous affect on music.
I got to see him perform a long time ago and he sounded great. I was young. It was one of the first concerts I went to; and I was actually a bit scared with all these psychos around me in the audience, but once the concert began I was a fan instead of a scared newbie

Now that's f'ing metal.
He didn't really introduce any new themes to heavy metal, when you look at what bands like Heavy Load, Manilla Road, Manowar, Angel Witch etc. etc. had released earlier already. Most songs of Holy Diver aren't really about such themes either.
His time in Sabbath was as far as I know, pretty original with songs like Neon Knights and Die Young, if anything, it at least helped popularize metal for sure. I'm sure it was before Manowar existed, but not sure about those other guys to tell the truth. Heaven and Hell is one of his best albums ever released, I think it was around that time that the good stuff started getting more widespread. But yeah, it had not much to do with vikings and killing. His themes were very varied, from being extremely fricken happy about his career passing through how small we are compared to nature and the world going to stuff like the shadowy traps that life lays for us and how we fall to them, how we can all make a difference in this world, the epic conceptual album about heroes and magic in a faraway land and killing dragons(overcoming great obstacles but I still like to think it's about dragons.).
Been listening to Rainbow for a better part of the day. Dio and Blackmore, what amazing tunes you created. The Wizard and Man on the Silver Mountain are two of my favorite songs.

He didnt pass away recently, he already died ONE YEAR ago. The according date you are talking about: it is now 1 exactly year ago that he died.
All those who pretend to be "huge" fans or such, are just trolls... U really have no clue...
anyway congratz to all those fake fans out there, who thought that he died today.. and not already a year ago... cool stuff -.-
Fairly certain everyone who posted today have acknowledged it's been a year, and all the ones who hadn't posted a year ago. Pay attention to post dates my man before flaming others.
I grew up around the Portsmouth area, I'm proud to say, couldn't have had a better person come from my area.

Man, 1 year I wish I could have seen Dio live man, he was an amazing performer and an Icon for heavy metal as a genre. RIP Dio, may you be singing to this day in a better place
