Sometimes I hate America(ns).. a lot (I live in the USA by the way).
http://www.myfoxdc.com/dpp/news/local/101909_man_caught_making_coffee_naked_faces_charges
Summary:
5:30 in the morning.
Man is making coffee in his kitchen without any clothing. Woman walks by with your young son, sees the man, and calls the police. Police ARREST the man.
End Summary.
WTF. I am at home naked all the time. I have windows, and if someone really wants to spy on me they can. I wonder what would happen if a woman got 'spotted' naked in her room by a man... if something the man would get charged.
WTF

While this story is certainly humor tinged with sadness, the fact is our overly litigious society has created some major problems. The prime example of this is ridiculous medical malpractice suits leading to insane health care costs. It's the fault of the courts for allowing such retarded charges.

Well I am sure they have to respond and work it out.. the situation COULD have been the man knew a boy/mother/both would walk by or w/e and exposed himself for his pleasure (some odd people get a kick from that).. if it truly were he was just making coffee oblivious to that giant window people walking by could see him through then hopefully he gets off (haha) with a light charge if anything at all.. I agree in your own house you should be allowed to be naked but I understand why the police had to act.
This is all dependent on faith in the court system though hehe

however, the fear of the malpractice suits (which can't be quantified) may certainly be a cost, kind of like the billions we spend on anti-terrorism... owait oops

eh, it sucks, but if its easily visible like that then it's in the public domain.
same thing with warrants, evidence, etc

I don't understand. If the woman is calling the police because she saw a naked man, how did she have a son?
The other possibility is that she's calling the police because she doesn't want her son seeing the naked man. First off, a young boy seeing a naked man isn't a big issue. They're the same gender. Has he never seen his father? Never been to a public changeroom?
|
couldn't they have just told him he has to keep his curtains/blinds shut? that sucks
|
Yeah, I agree that the police have to act to a phone call- it could be some sexual deviant who poses naked in front of the window. At 5:30 in the morning... slightly unlikely, but nevertheless, the fact that the police acted is nothing wrong. They are just doing their job.
The ridiculous part to me, is that the man was ARRESTED. The job of the Police is not to arrest every man that some bitch with a child thinks is 'indecent'.
|
I think the real question is what was a mom doing outside with her son at 5:30? School doesn't start that early. The man has every right to be naked in his OWN HOUSE. It's his private property. The woman is just being a fucking bitch about it and people like that are really the worst kind of people.

not the issue.

Wow. that's crazy, I have a huge window that faces the park at my house and when I get out of the shower I walk across into my room but I have to pass by the window that's ridiculous that if I were in america I could be arrested for that.
|
Not the issue? That's exactly what happened. If you're trying to generalize this to be "Can people be naked in their own homes if it's visible to the public" then that's different. You'd have to make some clear distinction about the degrees of "visible" which I don't think is possible.
|
Could not the uptight lady just look the other way? It's like the guy who mooned a car on the freeway and got chared since there was a 13yo boy in the car he mooned or something like that. I cant belive how people get offended by everything and also act out about it. If I see something I dont like or hear something I dont want to hear I just ignore it. It's not that hard really.
I hate people.
|
She was just "cutting through the front yard" with her son at 5:30AM for what reason? Isn't 5:30AM a little dark for a casual walk?
|
[e] Bleh, edited out my post because I was one minute late to post it.
Read post above mine.

I am sure the case will be dropped unless others come forward and say the same thing.
|
If he really wanted to expose himself in an indecent way, why would he do so at 5:30? Sad that the woman already has reproduced.

its called the "reasonable person standard" and its used on a case by case basis

I'm confused... the article says 5:30am but the follow up says it was at 8:30 am. That sounds more likely. Also, his house is across from a school bus stop which is why the police are taking it more seriously. But it still seems ridiculous to arrest someone rather then giving him a warning to keep his blinds down.

Except that the damage is already done. Money paid for the 911 operator, the police time, the judge's time, the court's time, all the supportive administrative staff time, and the lost work time for the accused guy. Good job overly paranoid mother. Nobody is wrong, per se (ie. cop was doing his job, mother trying to protect her child, etc), but this is what happens in an overly bureaucratic, overly litigious democratic society.

Yea, I saw this on fark - kind of depressing. I think I read in the comments that the woman actually cut through his lawn instead of the sidewalk.

That little boy will spend the rest of his life pissing next to other men in urinals and using change rooms so whats the big deal? I don't see any problem I can associate to a little boy seeing a naked man.
Calling the cops is retarded, just tell the guy to close his blinds or w/e.
Actually since he's seen a man naked he'll probably turn gay so never mind.

Yea, not 100% sure if that's confirmed or not. Either way, if he's convicted he would be put on the Sex Offenders list which would be such bullshit for this guy being so young and getting on one of the worst lists you can be on for the rest of his life over something dumb like this.

Yet she cut through the lawn in front of his house. Tresspassed on somebody's property to get that close and has the gall to call about an incident on the man's property. What a bitch!

The American Legal System is not stupid, just part of it; the civil suit part full of superfluous, meaningless, grasping lawsuits that impede the progress of actually important cases. We are a litigious society. I think it's ridiculous that this guy is arrested for that unless he was in front of some huge mirror shakin his dick around to passerby.

That's really dumb. Why the hell did she bother calling the police? Why was she taking her (I'm assuming very young) son out for a walk at 5:30am? Why is she cutting through the neighbors yard? Ughhhh I hate crap like that.
I live in a household where people walking around naked is nothing remotely out of the ordinary. Sure we have blinds installed and such, but I had no idea it was something you could be arrested for. Going strictly by the law, (and yes I'm familiar with these laws lol), if you can be seen naked from public grounds, it classifies as indecent exposure. If however you can only be seen naked from your private property, they are technically a peeping tom.
Basically, I can walk around naked when I feel like it. But I don't dance in front of open windows.
It still amazes me that we're such a country full of goddamn prudes T_T

This story is so weird, a mom out 5:30 am with her son walking into someones yard and gets him arrested for being naked in his own house lol

start reading and stop accusing.
" the civil suit part full of superfluous, meaningless, grasping lawsuits"
this statement in no way, shape or form declares that there should be no more civil suits and that they aren't important, but rather that the superfluous, meaningless, grasping lawsuits are just that.

This is exactly the stupidity of this whole thing. It's tied up in gender issues. As you say, if the same thing happened with man/woman reversed, it'd be the guy getting sued again.
Unfortunately, the defending attorney will be smart enough not to bring up this point lest he insult the presiding judge's sense of moral authority. It just ain't right for a man to be showing himself/a man to be peeping around at women's windows, hear?

i think it's justified that he got arrested, even though it seems kind of unfair for him. if it was easy for him to be seen he should have put on some clothes, buy some curtains, or move somewhere more private. moreover, it's just safer this way, or else any pervert who feels like parading himself in front of a window can do so in the comfort of his home.

Yeah this story is getting blown up because she's the wife of a police officer. I mean, if your wife called you and told you about a man in the neighborhood flashing her and your son, you'd probably get the man arrested too.
The guy is completely innocent though, he woke up before the sun was up to make some coffee and probably wasn't even thinking of anyone seeing him being as no one is up at that time, let alone walking around in the dark.

"We've heard there may have been other people who had a similar incident"
My ass thats true. Completely trying to cover their decision. You should be able to be naked in your home between the hours of 12am-6am and 6pm-1159pm. If you go around looking in peoples windows like this prude, then your are asking for it.
|
If anything, the retarded bitch mom should be locked up. I fucking hate people like her.
There is nothing wrong with a child seeing a naked human. What the fuck is wrong with our society?
Unless he was doing something to himself. Then that would be wrong
|
Instead of asking other members of the neighborhood about prior incidents, what the police should be doing is to check the record on whether or not this has been filed before. If there were no prior complains filed then how can this guy be at fault doing something in his own home at 5:30 in the morning. There are usually not a lot of things happen that early and I don't think the school would likely be opened at 5:30 AM or there be any activity occurring at that time so the proximity of his home relative to the school should not be that big of an issue. Without prior complaints filed, it might just be that the person wasn't aware that it was a problem and was not doing so under malicious intent.
|
I too think this is ridiculous. I think it's clear that the man had no intentions to expose himself to people. ._.

Maybe. Or maybe they just don't want to look quite as retarded as they currently do.
Police wouldn't release the incident report or the name of the mother who filed the complaint. FOX 5 has learned she is a respected member of the community, and just happens to be the wife of a Fairfax County Police officer. Wee.

Yea, I noticed those qualifiers. However, it just seems strange for everyone to be siding with the guy and against the police/woman prematurely. I understand innocent until proven guilty, but this is like determining the accusers are to be presumed guilty of bias, which is hardly a fair handling of the case. I think it's a pretty well known phenomenon in the US that the news media will spin anything into a huge shocking story, even if it is not, just for the temporary surge in interest (and then the story dies out in a few days - week).

Police are especially concerned because the house is located across the street from a bus stop for school children.
I'd say that in this case, it should matter due to the circumstances of the house's location. I'm all for doing whatever you want in your house, but if you want to walk around naked in your house at a time when kids are going to school, and you live across from the bus stop in plain view, you should probably lower the curtains.

If it really was 5:30, I say the mother should be charged with child abuse. Who would wake their child up at 5:30 and go for a walk? If it was 8:30, it's still pretty dark outside these days, so I'm not sure why she was looking in the window of someone else's house. The article claims that he "deliberately" exposed himself, how do you deliberately expose yourself if you're not wearing clothes? It's not like he was constantly flashing them.

How the hell could arresting this guy (and any following proceedings) possibly be in the public interest? Now people have to spend money that could be much better put towards beneficial things just to pay someone with (hopefully) common sense to (again hopefully) have this thrown out?

Oh didn't notice that the place where I read 8:30 in the second article was the same. My bad, missed the context somehow. This is kind of weird then.. making a change to the story without mentioning you had an editorial error in the first version. Sigh.

He also appears to have been drinking the night before, though he claims to have not been drunk. However, he also claims that it was 5:30, so I don't know what to think of that (3 hours off? lol?). In both the new and the old article, the "guy" never claims anything, its possible Fox news just mixed up the facts. I haven't watched the video because I'm in class, but according the article, the guy only said it was dark and that he had just woken up. probably sensationalizing a story with national interest.

Wives of cops are batshit insane, I confirmed this by watching "Falling Down."
Its science.

The woman is retarded. Stories like this drive me nuts.
|
1) This is an outrage, which brings me to my second point: 2) What a fucking BITCH 3) Some dude should just go stand in her front lawn and stare through her window all day. 4) Fuck.

I am going to print out a million goatse flyers and airdrop them over Springfield.

You guys realize this is fucking local news right? It's like your "friendly local newscaster on at 10 every night" shit.
I would tend to agree on network Fox, but really? There is no reason to stand against them in this case.
|
Fits that fox would report this... This is ridiculous. It's his home, he can do w/e the crap he wants. If anything, the woman should be charged for trespassing on the man's privacy.

lmao so fucking stupid
if you dont want to see a naked man making coffee, dont stare through the windows in his fucking house
|
Yeah seriously, why look through the window like that? I hate when people get all uptight about nothing, like when Janet Jackson had that "Wardrobe malfunction". All that happened was her nipple showed, it's not like people don't know what nipples look like, everyone has them, including children.

Apparently he's right across from a middle school bus stop, and other people have seen him too.
He was awake at 5am, but people saw him naked at 8:30.

When I walk around naked, I always close the blinds, for the sad fact that people peer into every window they walk past.
To the guy: put some boxers on, man. To the lady: quit being such a nosy bitch. To the kid: I'm sure you can repress this if you just try!

Is this forum really completely clueless to the number of people that get off on exposing themselves in front of windows to young children? Or to the fact that that is very much a crime. At least this forum is capable of not knowing the circumstances but confidently making a snap judgement about exactly what happened and how retarded the woman is. The woman and the police seem to believe that he did this on purpose, but surely you guys sitting behind your computers are much more capable of knowing the truth from a vague news story.
5:30 am means it was dark outside. Most likely lights were on inside. Everyone knows if it's lighter in your house than outside it is extremely easy to see inside, even from a distance. According to the story he was in front of 2 windows, neither of which had the blinds closed. How often does the average person walk around their house naked with the lights on, blinds not shut on their windows? The certainty that a lot of people here speak about this guy's innocence is laughable.

he can do whatever he wants in his house, and nobody has to look at him
getting arrested for public nudity in your own house is fucking stupid

No, you can't expose yourself in front of a window to children, seriously is that so hard to comprehend?
btw, the vast majority of cases that I've heard about people do this is almost always done during the time that children are going to or from school bus stops. The fact that this woman is walking with her child at 5:30 in the morning and nobody could put together that just MAYBE she is taking her child to school instead of saying stupid stuff like "she should be charged with child abuse for taking her kid for a walk!" I'm not surprised that the same logic that sees a woman walking with her child at 5:30 in the morning and thinks they are going for a morning jog is the same logic that thinks this woman is peering into this guy's windows and there is no way he did anything wrong...

God. I hate "sensational" news stories and the stupid responses it provokes.
This thread should have stopped 3-4 posts in after Inc's reply. There no need to start up a 'moral debate' on it. Jesus fucking christ people.

I agree in your own house you should be allowed to be naked but I understand why the police had to act.
This.

Elementary schools open at 9am here, somehow I doubt they start 3 hrs earlier in DC.
