Now, I'm a huge fan of the PSP, I picked up a 3000 model as gift for myself last December. It was a great buy, and it will always be a sexy looking product.
But now? The new "Go" model looks like it came out of a happy-meal.
some of the specs:
• Gran Turismo, LittleBigPlanet, Jak & Daxter and Metal Gear Solid are all either confirmed or mentioned. • The Go's 16 gigs of flash memory and bluetooth support ("You can also tether it to your cell phone,") are touted. • In discussing the PSP Go's video-playing capability, it sounds like the rental service through PSN will extend to the PSP Go. • PSP Go will not replace the PSP-3000; the 3000 will still be kept on the market. • The PSP Go will arrive this fall. • It's 43 percent lighter than the PSP-3000 • It has a 3.8-inch screen
this is just a model upgrade, not a graphical leap or anything.
great idea take out UMD and include all those gigs, but i wouldn't be caught dead with that thing in public.
what do you think?

not sure why you think it looks so bad.. looks sharp to me.
And it looks exactly like all the new phones.. they love that hidden keypad gimmick

it looks fine closed up, but opened it looks very strange in shape. makes it looks more like a kids toy rather than a sleek multmedia device.

weren't they gonna put in dual-analog? fail........

Looks fine and slick, etc but I don't think this is a very good move from Sony

it's just a model upgrade. putting in another analog would split their userbase because only certain games would benefit from having dual analog.

A cleverer title would have been: "New PSP Go is official(ly ugly)" Looks okay to me, but I really dislike the rounded parts on the sides. If that were flat, I'd probably nerdgasm all over this. But that small detail just makes it look simply "okay" to me.

Better that than having a system that can't properly port any ps2 game that uses both sticks.

meh, shooters are the only games that suffer from that on the PSP from what i've seen.
racers, fighters, rpgs, action/adventures, and puzzles all work great. just a shame most developers don't try very hard =/

If I can get pre-Go games with this (Tactics, Crisis Core, Dissidia, etc) then I might get it. Other than that I can't see myself getting another PSP.
(I gotta browse the PSN sometime to see what they have to offer)

honestly this looked much better
(fanmade i think)
btw im pretty sure the psp go does not look as shitty as the pic in the OP

Much sleeker.

IMO the problem with the PSP (I've had one since launch) isn't the design of it, but the lack of exclusive games. All the games on the PSP that actually have a budget are just crappier version of playstation franchises. It needs some more original IPs IMO, not more watered-down versions of littlebigplanet and MGS and such :\

I think that the PSP, no matter what, won't be able to take the handheld market. The DS is just too dominant. I think the best the thing the psp could do is up the DS in the DS's areas. Like if they had the same graphics as the PSP does now, but had the same functionality of the DS is would do alot better in the market, along with the analog stick it would even be better.

Kinda fail to me....

Don't put it in your back pocket then?
But yea Sony seems to be stumbling a little bit lately.

It's not a surprise that the mockup looks better. Isn't that typical?
But what, who would ever sit down on top of any electronic device?

Part of this new design is to curb piracy. It was pretty easy to put a custom firmware on the old psp's and download games. As a result the psp had pretty decent hardware sales but the software sales were terrible. Now you have to buy shit from the psn, but pirates will probably crack that eventually.

No. The 3000 is already unmoddable, and the 3000 isn't being replaced by this either.
