If you haven't heard of or seen it before, it's a Marines vs Aliens FPS/RTS. You can see the original NS here http://www.naturalselection2.com/ns
I played this game competitively for 6 years and believe it's one of the best FPS of all time and it's so closely related to my favourite RTS of all time Starcraft ^^
Oh this was one really interesting and fun game to play, it combined RTS and FPS elements mainly, but had some of that RPGish (actaully more like Dotaish) elements if you played as the Aliens. I remember some thought it would eventually rival counter strike, too bad that didn't happen though and the mod kinda died down a bit.
!!! I LOVED Natural Selection, what a fun game, so much variety on both sides, fun maps, really just a great game when you wanted to have a change of pace from CS 1.6 or DoD.
Oh man i'm a huge fan of NS. Super high learning curve though, at least to play well on ns_ maps (co_ is for nubs but it's fun too)! Definitely will be keeping an eye out for this.
Oh sick, i thought they gave up on it tbh... That teaser trailer is fucking baller too. ;o. Is this what's sparked the NS community coming back again koven? I've noticed a ton of pugs lately...

Yep, alot of the old schoolers have come back to it and http://www.nsplayer.net are even hosting a last send-off tournament.
NS was awesome but they probably only put up this pre order thing because they were running out of money. I'll throw down $20 or $40 when there's a definitive timetable for alpha/beta
Wow i loved this mod. Basebuilding was so fun as a commander and playing with aliens after the last upgrade was super fun too. God i need to play this.
I used to play NS1 competitively with team sYn, but gradually lost interest as each version came out. I'll definitely try NS2, but hope their dev/play testing team gears it towards competitive/skill based play and not just for the pub masses.

Yea, I liked 1.3/4 to 2.01... major imbalances in 1.3/4, but I liked the pace of the game then, 2.0 was better balanced, but gameplay slowed down a bit i thought.
Well I went back on my word and pre ordered the special edition. I played NS for a bit last night and was reminded how much fun I got out of it over the years, even if ns2 doesn't come out I feel like Flayra deserves my $40
Wow, I liked NS a lot. Even more than CS, to be honest. I never quite understood how to play with the terrans, though. Alwasy thought it was so much harder for the terrans to win against the aliens.

Humans need more team work than aliens, making it harder for humans to win on random pubs. It's all about getting buildings up and resources at the beginning, and stopping the aliens from getting more hives.

To elaborate, Humans need a good commander + people willing to listen to the commander, otherwise they are screwed. Playing commander in a pub can be one of the most frustrating things ever, especially after playing a game of sc where u have total control over your units usually a lot of yelling over voice comm and spamming waypoints is needed.
Though I think most of the servers these days are combat servers... that's like fastest/ums/deathmatch mode where u dont build anything and its just a straight up frag fest.
i've played NS competively too (clan torment, nationcups, europe vs usa games etc.)
im looking forward to see the new game. but a new engine and better graphics dont have anything to do with the fun factor, skill levels or strategic depth of a game... i hope they worked on that too
NS wasn't newb friendly at all but then again neither is Starcraft really... and both are excellent games. After about 2 years of playing NS I felt I had mastered every facet of the game, which isn't too bad... been playing Starcraft for 9 years and probably won't ever master it :s
i know nadagast if thats the one from competitive NS, game just had a lot of flaws and the devs weren't very experienced with patching with competitive gaming in mind, every newly released version killed that game in one way or another
before left4dead i didnt think ns2 would do too well and now after i think its got a real shot at breaking that market thats going to keep it alive and evolving
dont know where all the old NS players hang out, meb, titanium, nerdy, some of those guys that kept that community running despite devs
Every version of NS was an improvement over the last. None of them killed the game, the fact that it was a small player base that never substantially grew was what "killed" the game. There is still a community and there are still competitive players in some capacity.
Lots of ex-CAL NS players in TF2 and L4D now. Xensity TF2 was from NS, Eximius L4D is from NS. The NA ex-competitive community now mostly plays on the GUD server, which is a little less fun than the NSA Vet server that was up a few years ago.
I'm looking forward to NS2 - I'm just afraid it'll get dumbed down for the casuals, like TF2.
Oh, and floor exercise is right. 3.2 (current) is probably the best balanced version.
