I personaly like the way valve release tons of new weapons, Im all for diversity as long as these new weapons remains sidegrades.
Just checked this new sci-fi update and I'm seriously not sure if they're joking or not... Which in my opinion make these new guns awesome.
It's not like your personal loadout has to keep up with each additionnal update anyways.
EDIT: typo
how long have you played the game out of curiosity?

A couple years at the very least. this game is meant to be FUN, I understand why certain servers/leagues ban new items, I like that more competitive part of the game too, I also like how valve try to maintain interest and show that they care of their game throu constant new items even many years later.
On a side note, I understand that the soldier is the 'default' class, but I feel like he's getting more attention than the rest of the classes. Id like valve to should some love to classes like the engi even if his big update hasnt come around yet.

Why would the game not be meant for FUN? It's like if you took counterstrike and added 50+ items in a short time-span, the game loses it's appeal rather quickly.
I was always excited about engineer updates, his character definitely had the greatest appeal for awesome new items.
The overall effect when TF2 comes out with bulks of new items without proper testing and balance is that people start playing purely for the new items, to try them out and not for the game itself.
If you limit or slow the production of new weapons, the game gets more emphasis on more than just the new shit.
This is a strong reason why people joke around that it is a hat simulator, because the focus of the game is geared towards zany items rather than its unique maps, cooperative nature and new art.

I like them because they show that people at valve are constantly working to improve tf2 even years later.
I agree with you on many points too. On one side I feel like the regular additions of new items keep interest in the game, on the other they might add too many at once, in each new patch they are certain things I like, and others I dont. I completely agree that stuff should get more balance and testing. My point is that I like how the game feels like whenever someone at valve gets a cool idea, the team immediately try to implement it in the game.
As you said, trying new stuff out is cool, but I personaly almost always go back to the default items, with the periodic additions of stuff just too good to pass on (equalizer, atomizer, dead ringer, etc).

Funny you say this...they just came out with a whole new set of laser weapons that you can buy or wait until comic-con to get a promotion code for them. They are slightly imbalanced at the moment. The general consensus among the players I asked was "lol they wont balance, i paid money for this." When told that the fact that people spent money on in game items was exactly the reason why the weapons would be rebalanced the attitude was "then i want my money back lol."
-_-
That being said, the hat simulator joke isn't too far off. The TF2 Trading economy is based on decorations, Refined Metal (which can be turned into hats), and Hats which can be sold to people for real money or Steam games. Some people just play for different reasons. I do like to play the game for both the trading and the new maps.

Why would anyone take the old rocket launcher (RL) over the new RL?
It has the same damage basically, INFINITE ammo, FIVE rockets, and the option to mini-crit (no damage fall-off) with after-burn. What's the cost? No random crits (which you shouldn't be playing with in the first place) and deals reduced damage to buildings (but can disable them for a few seconds), AKA there are no downsides.
Did you know that a single soldier with the old RL can't take down a sentry by himself because the engineer can out-repair the damage? "But this is a team game, so a soldier shouldn't be trying to take down a sentry by himself!" So then you look at the new RL's inability to kill a sentry by himself and face palm at people pointing out its "weakness" :\
Before I download the game, I would like to ask all you people who play it a question: do the players run around mindlessly shooting and occasionally follow the objectives, or do they stick together and work as a team to win?

normally, the objective are fallow, like 80% of time
Just a question, did they change it so that F2P players aren't able to accept friend requests anymore? One of my friends just downloaded the game and wasn't able to accept my friend request but I've sent requests to a lot of my other F2P friends a while back and they were all able to accept.

Since F2P and this is me being honest, the teams in the games have been a lot more dysfunctional in pubs. But from time to time you are lucky and get in a good team with players that work together as a team. It helps a lot if your team mates as well as yourself are using mics.

According to reddit the reload is a lot longer, especially for the first reload.

I think I would run either standard RL with the new gun.
You can reflect the rocketlauncher but not the pistol
The pistol reloads amazingly fast but does pretty piss poor damage from what I've heard and from what I've seen it looks like it fires a lot slower than the shotgun.
I honestly don't see myself using either of these new weapons over existing ones. I usually use either the standard rocketlauncher or the blackbox if our team is being stupid with no medics. The standard shotgun is too versatile for me to want to change it.
