You earn terrible money and are a target for ganking, in which case you'll lose the ship you've invested all your money in anyway. A better way to play afk eve is to train for a Dominix and run afk missions (which I'm doing as I type this reply out) and you actually get some valuable PVP skills trained.
ok. I give up. I'll try to PvP if thats what you guys think i'll enjoy. I'll give it a shot. and if I don't enjoy it then I'll have to live with it I guess.
If that'll stop people from calling me a retard then I'll give it a try.

He can ofc play how he wants but tbh mining is boring and if he wants a bit of isk he can just salvage missions for someone else. He'll make more ISK in an hour of that that he will in a couple of hours mining. This way he also gets to interact with people.
PvP also teaches a LOT about the game, and to do it practically for free is a great opportunity. PvP doesn't have to mean spunking all your earnings on a big ship just to see it go pop. Go fly little shit and work your way up as your income climbs, its fun.

Here are the results of the first event of the Team Liquid Eve Tournament Series, this event was for hatchery members only. http://challonge.com/tlet (Battal Condor was Kwark) The videos are being uploaded, and I will post them here when they are done. 300m to Michael 200m to Nou 100m to Aeth
The next event in this tournament will be open to all TL members, and the details will be released in conjunction with an impending announcement from The Hatchery.
Look at me, making announcements of announcements to be released in conjunction with an announcement that I am also announcing.

If you really find yourself liking mining for a long term period, go ahead. We'll just find it funny.

If you are in our public channel people will be able to answer questions and help. Just learn who to trust etc so you dont get sent to a firey death.

Great job with the vids mandini! For people who know nothing about EvE, they are flying the cheapest ships on 1 on 1 tourney style combat... actual pvp we conduct in bigger ships vs even bigger ships is on a much more epic scale.
Good times though!

Unfortunately I have no experience whatsoever with video editing. I might get someone to teach me though, and then I can make them a lot fancier. On second thought, if I do that, I envision myself as becoming the video editor for any and all future hatchery videos . I'll think about it though.

My fit for the final round was designed to counter Nou's double web+mwd+400mm brawling rifter. My fit had
200mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I F85 Peripheral Damage System I Gyrostabilizer II
Catalyzed Cold-Gas I Arcjet Thrusters J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I X5 Prototype I Engine Enervator
200mm AutoCannon II, Barrage S [empty high slot] 200mm AutoCannon II, Barrage S 200mm AutoCannon II, Barrage S
Small Projectile Burst Aerator I Small Projectile Ambit Extension I Small Projectile Ambit Extension I
The plan was to load barrage and kite him at 8-9km, since I thought he would think i was doing some shield tanked kiting fit and load EMP. Even if he swapped to barrage as soon as he realized what was happening, I would have still outdamaged him with my ambits and 10 second lead. A double webbed rifter with mwd on is faster than a single webbed rifter with no mwd, so I was fairly certain Id be able to kite him.
As soon as Nou warped in at 30 though, I knew something was up. I looked at his ship and saw artillery. I cursed at him, then quickly unloaded barrage in favor of EMP.
When the battle started, I burned away from Nou. After giving him time to accelerate to max speed, I turned around, overheated, and spammed approach. Nou got a shot off which took me to about 1/3rd shields. He saw me coming just a tiny bit too late, and I managed to land an overheated web at max range, just moments before he would have started getting further away. My scram landed soon after, and then it was a forgone conclusion. I had finished training accel control V two days before the match, and I think without it, he would have avoided my web.
The setups i used:
1) Vs Tob: The idea here was to be fast enough to catch most kiting ships, but still having a web to kite most brawling ships. It would have died hard to anything with lasers. Tracking Enhancer II Mark I Generator Refitting: Diagnostic System Damage Control II
Medium F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction Cold-Gas I Arcjet Thrusters X5 Prototype I Engine Enervator
150mm Light AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S 150mm Light AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S 150mm Light AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S 5W Infectious Power System Malfunction
Small Core Defence Field Extender I Small Projectile Burst Aerator I Small Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
2) Vs Karah: I know karah has terrible gunnery skills (rocket dram lol), so i was sure he would use a kestral again. I couldnt decide if he would use rockets or standard missiles though, so i went with the following. The sensor booster was because I was concerned about karah deciding I would go with a kiting fit and using damps to force me to get closer than I wanted.
Micro Auxiliary Power Core I Ballistic Control System II
Catalyzed Cold-Gas I Arcjet Thrusters Phased Weapon Navigation Array Generation Extron Sensor Booster II, Targeting Range
'Malkuth' Standard Missile Launcher I, Caldari Navy Bloodclaw Light Missile 'Malkuth' Standard Missile Launcher I, Caldari Navy Bloodclaw Light Missile 'Malkuth' Standard Missile Launcher I, Caldari Navy Bloodclaw Light Missile 'Malkuth' Standard Missile Launcher I, Caldari Navy Bloodclaw Light Missile
Small Warhead Calefaction Catalyst I Small Rocket Fuel Cache Partition I Small Hydraulic Bay Thrusters I
3) Vs Nou: described above

Hi guys, Long time MMO player with a lot of free time now due to quitting all the others.
Currently DL'ing the Eve client and would like to troll some nubs.
I have a very quick learning curve, never have played Eve before though.
If you guys have any suggestions on what to do before actually making a character it would be nice to have some advice before hand.
If it has already been given forgive me for not wanting to look through 800+ forum pages worth of stuff.
Look forward to joining the crew !

Posting here so I can easily get back here without bookmarking. So instead of fighting all the time, I could have a "Serenity" type role and salvage/explore?
