there can only be 6 playoff spots. we are already at 10 teams so if we go any higher that will be 6 teams not making the playoffs which seems a bit high to me. what do you guys think? Here's who's signed up so far
*Intends to do $10 pool all you managers out there, what do you think about doing let's say an $8 buy in this year? post in this thread what you think. (btw i'm pretty sure mani is willing to hold the $) also when would you guys like to see the draft take place? what day & time? The cutoff is Sunday Sept 28 | ||

By roster expansion maybe do something like 3 C, 3 LW, 3 RW, keep it at 4 D 2 util and 2 goalies. Same number of bench, maybe 1 extra bench, and IR spots too (2 IR spots do we usually have? Whatever it has been its usually been perfect). | ||

but if that's what you guys want to do then ok. we'll wait for a few more people to say what they'd prefer. two things for those who are interested in participating. first off, we're already full unless the other managers agree to increase the league size to 12. if we go to 12 you have a very low chance of making the playoffs, 6 teams will make it in and 6 teams will not. secondly, while we all find this fun, you have to realize this is a full 6 month commitment requiring full activity during the entire season! if you are not prepared to stay active the entire season then please don't join. | ||

As for expanding the league to 12 teams, i'm fine with that. But either we expand the league to 2 more teams, or we raise the minimum games played by a goalie to 4 from 3. I'm also fine with the draft timing =). EDIT: Let's not wait 10 more days if we have all 10 teams ready to draft though, so if we don't expand let's move up the draft date to this weekend. Or we could even find the 12 teams asap and still move the draft up to this weekend. | ||

we're almost surely going to go ahead with the $10 pool, so if you haven't already please make sure you have 10 in your paypal account ready to go. once i talk to mani, (presuming he approves) we will all send our $10 to his paypal to hold. also regarding draft times, depending on whether mani wants to try and make the draft, some of you may have to sacrifice a bit of your early saturday evening in order to help mani participate. have to talk to him about that before we make any decisions though | ||

Also, I think it is only fair that everyone pays or no one. I dont want there to be a conflict with some non payment members knocking out paying ones etc. Lastly Ill probably just autodraft since I am usually the odd one out timezone wise. It doesnt bother me. | ||

last time i checked, football players don't get a 100mph puck to the face, go to the dressing room and get 60 second stitches, and then come out and play on the next shift what's the difference between football and hockey "body checks", except for the fact that in hockey the checks are delivered at twice as fast speeds because your skating as opposed to running? Oh and you have hard boards, glass, and ice to smash the victim against - as opposed to.... grass? how many football players are missing most of their teeth, and don't give a fuck? =P PS. yeah hockey involves men on ice skates, but football involves men in spandex. Skilled positions imho (you are welcome to argue other positions that require skill as opposed to brawn): QB, definitely. Yeah, they have to be able to throw the pigskin and dissect the opposing team's defense. Receivers, they have to be able to catch the ball, but I mean it's catching a football, hockey goalies have to catch pucks going 90+ mph. Kickers, they have to be able to kick the ball with precision and form, big muscles don't mean anything here. RB, sort of. They gotta run fast. Okay, but the skilled RBs do excel. They know how to get in the mind of their opponent with mad jukes. So much depends on how strong you are. Strength in American eyes is fun to watch, but I don't think it makes a better sport. Thus, you cannot validate a response that hockey sucks. I think a "better sport" is something that requires athletes to have more than just brawn. Sports like golf require much brain but little brawn. (Chess: all brain-no brawn) I feel that hockey combines both. You have to be strong, fast, and smart to excel in the NHL. Steroids won't help you. How many NFL players we see busted for steroids as opposed to NHL? Big muscles can't help your skill, but big muscles can help you excel in a low skill sport like the NFL. MMA. Having big muscles and strength don't get you anywhere, I'm talking to you Kimbo Slice. dknight, I'm sorry to hear that you don't think that hockey is a worthy sport. Maybe it's less fun for you to watch so you find reasons to justify that hockey sucks compared to football. Whatever, I'm not here to psychoanalyze your thought process, I'm here to outwit you to why I feel that hockey does not suck, rather, it excels as a sport over football. Football has a greater entertainment value here in the US because we drive big SUVs and the strongest and baddest are the best. We stubbornly stick to the Fahrenheit, inches, and pounds. However, the rest of the world, whom I think has a better perception than proud dim-witted Americans, acknowledge sports of great skill. Football (the real one), Tennis, Table Tennis (no bullshit here), Hockey, Volleyball, and even the world has embraced basketball as a sport they can apperciate. yeah, it takes 1/3 of the league's managers to overturn a trade. so for a league of 12 managers, it takes 4 votes to overrule trades http://hockey.fantasysports.yahoo.com/hockey/details/trade_review i think most people just voted that down based on name recognition haha, you could try it again if you want >> it'd be nice if yahoo showed the vote tally in real time and allowed managers to change their minds, that way if the trade started to accumulate 'no' votes then the traders could come to the thread quickly and argue their case | ||

Considering he's tied for 6th and the final spot of the playoffs it's an interesting move by zymurgy. However, if he does make it without the help of Price and Brodeur returns to form, he could be a huge underdog in the playoffs. With 6 weeks to go, the 5th and 6th place will be a tight race, possibly even the 4th. | ||

If there's someone good on the waiver wires, I'd look to get him. At the very least, you will dominate W/SV if he's any good. | ||

Now take that further, and say that there's over 600 guys league-wide who can contribute those first six stats for offense, and 30 for goalie (or, to get liberal cuz a lot of goalie tandems now, let's say 45 legit goalies and maybe 5 elite) My four guys are gonna have more opportunities per week to dominate those stats. Plus, it helps that I'm a stat nerd and ride the fuck outta waivers and just pick up hot guys, so I'm able to make up the offensive slack Iunno, maybe it's just me, but I always like to stay heavy on the goalies. | ||

I'd pick up wideman, boston has just cooled down that's all, but if they pick it up again I'm sure wideman will do well too. I don't watch em often, but if i'm not mistaken he's on their first pp, half his points are off the pp so yah. He was also seen practicing, so his knee should be ok. Don't bother with Kabby, i don't think he'll rush back to play, Leafs don't expect to make it to the off season anyways. As for Conklin or Halak, well Conklin has been okay right now and Osgood is on fire, so I'd go with Halak, who might get to start again if Price is terrible tmrw. If Price isn't terrible, stick with Conklin. | ||

so if you do the player transaction at 11:59 PM it will be completed at 12:01 AM but if you wait to do the same transaction at 12:01 AM it will not be completed until 12:01 AM the next day. so it can either take 2 minutes or 24 hours, just depends on whether you are on the ball enough to get it done before the cutoff | ||
