As for their defense - it's overrated. Seriously. they don't have to stop the offense, they just have to slow it down. There is no way that Denver is going to be the highest scoring team ever, which is what they are on pace for. They're averaging 38 PPG. The Patriots averaged 36.7 last year, and I just don't see Denver being able to outscore last year's Patriots. Then again, if the Broncos can put up near 30 on Tampa, there's no way Tampa is going to keep up. Jacksonville is the only team on the schedule this year that kind of scares me. If they have a day like they did against Indy last week (Taylor/MJD going 100+ yds each) then the Broncos will probably lose. you know its actually kind of possible no lie... B marsh is like a baby to which can play like moss Cutler has a stronger arm then brady and hes fearless Eddie Royal is like a quick little rat... kind of like welker and Stok is probably the best slot reciever in the game now the reason I think they are throwing up so many points is they took the Pats spread offense after watching so much tape on it and kind of incorporated it into their gameplan thats why your seeing a hell of a lot of spread offense but its working so I'm like yeah its like like they are putting 38 points a game up on scrubs.. Oakland has a top 3 seconday... the Chargers are still an amazing defense... and the saints well... they are underrated I think we'll be 4-1 with our first loss coming to the Jags unless we can learn to stop the run The Saints defense sucks, they have for a long time. They give up way too many big plays. Oakland's defense is pretty good, but they're overrated. The Chargers D is good, but they don't generate the same pass D as they did with Merriman--they aren't really a top tier defense this year. The thing is, the Broncos don't actually face a top tier defense at all this year. The closest thing they have to it is Buffalo, and that's in week 16, and by then, who knows how well they'll be playing (either team, really). There are only two teams that they may not be able to steam roll like they have, and they were already mentioned. Atlanta is going to be a tough game too, with Turner running like he has against bad rush defenses. And Matt Ryan is looking like a stud this year (for a rookie, anyway, his stats aren't all that impressive, but he makes really good plays for a guy who just came into the league). They should go 13-3, maybe 12-4 this year. If they learn how to make just a couple of stops a game, and hold the other team to like 20 points, then they might go all the way this year. That defense really needs to shore up the weak spots. I would be seriously considering some personnel adjustments if I were Shannahan. Are you saying the Broncos or Atlanta going 13-3??
The Broncos. That is kind of confusing the way I wrote that, huh?

You could definitely use another HB. I would go after a HB before a WR, because you'll generally get more consistent production out of them. If you can't get a HB for Ryan, then take Jackson and try to trade Jackson + someone else for a second tier HB.
I go to fantasyfootballcafe.com for advice on my rosters and trades, and whatnot.
Man, I was just thinking about this: I was planning to take Brandon Marshall with my upcoming pick, and the guy right before me grabbed him. I was upset then, but I am so pissed now. I could have had this year's #1 WR. I fucked up so badly on my drafting. I took Peyton Manning first (because the top 9 scorers last year were QB's in this league), and then I went about my business. I should have just gone HB WR QB like I did last year, or HB HB QB. I could have had Brandon Marshall and Jay Cutler! Or at least one of them! AGH!

why do you have 5 quarterbacks on your roster? do you start 2 each week? how many teams deep is your league? what positions play?

That is also an excellent question. They aren't top level guys, either.

Denver doesn't need personel changes the defense is lacking yes... but still on paper its very good... I do not however like nate webster never have... he gets a shit ton of tackles true but him and boss bailey I could do without I'm still stuck on the ian gold al wilson and dj williams days
The defense makes plays when it has too... and personally I think its main problem is that they shut down once they see the scoreboard 23-3 and don't pick up their game until the 4th quarter

When it's 0-0 they're still giving up 4.7 ypc. Something needs to be done about that. They can't play such shitty defense all year long and expect to win all the time. Just because they're winning doesn't mean things can't be improved upon, or that things shouldn't be changed. They're having the exact same defensive problems that they had last year. The difference between this year and last year is that their offense is on record pace right now. I doubt very strongly that will hold up, because it hardly ever does. That defense needs to be patched now, not four losses from now. Teams that rely on tons of scoring to win them games never fair well in the end. Even the '99 Rams held teams to under 20 ppg.

when we vs'd their starters it was 21-3 through the first half... as long as the offense stays on the field they can make up for the defense and theres enough playmakers to come up big when needed....
I think Dumervil needs to start preforming again... and I like the defensive tackles I just worry about the two ends right now... and the linebacker corps is weak....

Dumervil is probably getting more attention now than he was last year. I haven't really paid much attention to what's going on with him, to be honest. I know Engelberger isn't doing much, Moss is a pure speed rusher, and I don't know what Warren is doing. To me, the only solid player on that line is Dumervil.
I like the LB corps, except Webster. Boss is fast, and a pretty good tackler. Webster seems okay, but I think they could do better at MLB. They could do better than Boss, too, for that matter, but he's good enough. D.J. is just a beast, though. He's a one man wrecking machine, seriously. If I were to reconstruct that defense right now there would only be three (maybe four) players that I would keep.
I definitely do miss the Gold/Wilson/Williams days. It's a shame that Wilson had that neck injury that prematurely ended his career. That was the best LB corps in the game. Can you imagine how good this team would be with the defense from three years ago? I think Darrent Williams was better than Dre' Bly, and that LB corps was just phenomenal. The D-Line played great too, with all those Cleveland outcasts. Man... if only that D was on the field now. They'd be the most dominant team in football, no one would be mentioning Dallas right now, but I digress.
I am sticking firmly to the idea that something needs to be done about that defense. Really though, the only problem they have is stopping third down plays. They got the Saints in a lot of 3rd and 7+ early on, but they couldn't come up with the stop. The problem is that they aren't generating a pass rush on those downs. Blitzing may help to compensate for the lack of defensive line pressure; the personnel isn't there to have guys flying around the field like they did before. I think it's really more of a matter of scheme than talent. If they adopted a Steve Spagnola type defense, I think they would be a good defense (middle of the pack, really, but that's all they need with an offense putting up those kinds of numbers).
I'm not too greatly worried about the defense, but when it comes playoff time (and there's no doubt in my mind that the Broncos will be there this year) that defense is really going to need to play a lot better. They have 13 more weeks to do that, though.
