Btw, I don't know about you guys, but this is the definition I use for "gimmicks". Gimmicks = stuff that works once or twice, or however long it takes the opponent to figure out how to counter it, and then it's useless. I don't think Fuerte relies that much on gimmicks, though. Like his body splashes: assuming the opponent can't hit you out of them with a DP or ultra, you can actually make them pretty ambiguous to block on wake-up, or change it up with the head-grab that looks like a body splash. In this case, it's not a gimmick: it's a mixup, because there is no one thing the opponent can do to counter it. | ||

People give sagat way too much credit though. You'll lose to some stupid stuff / players occasionally just by the nature of how defensive he is. He doesn't have half the advantage over other characters people claim either. Hard to go on offense with as well since his crossup is so shitty. I think playing both Chun and Sagat isn't out of the question. Pick your character based on how you feel about each matchup or even the specific player. There are people I can barely keep up with using sagat that I can take out almost effortlessly as balrog. The opposite holds true as well of course. No reason to pick just one before you've gotten to the point where you need to stick with one to learn extensive matchup info. hmmm Bill I'd edit that definition of gimmick to include things that work once in a blue moon as well but are clearly worse options or are a really bad risk/reward. I wouldn't call fuerte gimmicky either though. Simply not enough people play him seriously for many to have good knowledge of how to fight him. Thanks to that, you can get away with a lot of random gimmicks for now. | ||
