Hey guys, what exactly does denying do? Does it deny the other team some exp, or does it just deny the chance for the other team to last hit a creep for the gold?

They get reduced exp.

And 0 gold, the exp isn't as big of a deal as the gold.

The exp is a huge deal early game
getting to say lv3 first in a 3v3 lane or lv6 in mid solo can often = lane control and a good ways into winning the lane
When in doubt, just believe in yourself and press buttons

why are so many HoN haters citing the million bucks that Valve is dropping at Gamescom as if Gabe Newell is going to visit every early adopter's house and make it rain on their ass?

i'm pretty damned excited about DotA 2 but god damn the community makes it hard to like/trust this genre for an extended period.

From the other thread, my personal rankings of the teams:
+ Show Spoiler +
1. CCM (China) - Catastrophic Cruel Memories
The current Kings of Chinese Dota, this relatively newer team has won FIVE tournaments in 2011 alone. Although occasional upsets occur, they consistently beat the other top Chinese teams currently and should be considered the favorites.
2. LGD (China) - LaoGanDie
Although they mostly trade games with the other Chinese powerhouses, their consistent performances for the past 2+ years earns them the #2 spot. They're almost always taking home a medal, if not the gold.
3. TyLoo (China) - TyLoo
Despite their only recent losses coming from CCM, Tyloo gets the #3 spot behind LGD because they're less experienced and haven't been able to seal the deal down the stretch at many tournaments.
4. Ok.Nirvana.cn (China) - Online Kingdom Nirvana China
A recent embarrassing loss to SkyNet in the Asia vs Vietnam showmatch should be enough motivation for these guys to get serious.
5. Ehome (China) - EHOME E-Sports Club
The undisputed #1 team worldwide 2 years ago, these guys have been struggling against the above teams a bit, but it's still hard to pick any non-Chinese team to be favored over these veterans.
6. StarsBoBa (Vietnam) - StarsBoBa
A tossup between Scythe and Starsboba for the top Non-Chinese spot, but I have to give it to StarsBoBa and their 4 years of lan experience.
7. Scythe.sg (Singapore) - Scythe Gaming
These guys have taken matches off LGD and Ok.Nirvana.Cn in the past. Very Impressive, but i haven't seen them play for a few months.
8. MYM (Denmark) - Meet Your Makers
The best European team, currently bootcamping in Denmark as we speak. We all want them to do well, but compared to the Chinese teams they're still underdogs. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if they take a game off some of the higher ranked teams.
9. Na'Vi (Ukraine) - Natus Vincere
So much potential in one team, with some of the scarest Lan players known to man with Dendi and LightOfHeaven. Still, their recent performance really hasn't reflected the amount of talent they have.
10. Mufc (Malaysia) - Mufc
Ex-Kingsurf, the best team in Malaysia.
11. [MI.Asus (Philippines) - Mineski Infinity.Asus
The best team of the Philippines, we'll finally get to see if their unique style stands up to international competition.
12. M5 (Russia) - Moscow5
So many achievements in such a short time for this Russian team, but without their ultimate weapon LightOfHeaven, I can't see competing as well as before.
13. GGnet (Europe) - Team GosuGamers
The "home team" for most of the English speaking Dota community, They've struggled quite a bit since the departure of Pajkatt and Puppey. Hopefully we'll see them back to full form soon.
14. Nevo (Denmark) - Next Evolution ESC
Forever the underdogs, these Danes have taken games off all the top European teams, but can't seem to get that huge win under their belt.
15. Ok.Nirvana.Int (Europe) - Online Kingdom Nirvana International
The only Primarily North American team (With Fear, 1437, and Universe attending). They've been totally on fire in online play recently, but IMO they're still huge underdogs in the Lan Environment where many of their members have no experience.
16. MiTH.Tr (Thailand) - MiTH.Trust
I believe the representative from Thailand will find themselves vastly outclassed in this tournament. Hopefully they prove me wrong

agreed except for scythe, who should be shifted down 2 slots, scythe has been missing and when they left the scene they were incredibly off the deep end. imo if MYM brings their A game they're the top non chinese team. na'vis still having trouble and i dont trust puppey when hes on the same team as artstyle and loh. kinda disappointed theres no BR teams

The exp is not a huge deal early game, otherwise every single game would be tri-lane versus tri-lane. The farm is what is critical these days since everyone has their game streamlined to it.

Fuck yeah, BR.

I haven't watched a pain! game that didn't impress me. It'd also be the ultimate middle finger to NA dota.

It has been like this on Dota for a while I believe. Wasn't there a version where denies gave no XP, and it was changed to the current system? I'm not exactly sure, as I said, it has been a while.

hon is the same as dota here. when denies didnt give any exp the game became a lot more constrained on laning and made it even worse for weak laners, typically melees --well also the knowledge of the game wasnt so fleshed out back in the day and many elements were in play-- it was changed to 1/3 for all and then 2/3 for melee later.

Anyone else having issues after the patch? I could play the game just fine, but now its like my system can't handle the game, in teamfights, or whenever theres a lot of shit happening, the frame rate drops terribly.

I've already turned all my settings to low, with no results, I'm running on a macbook, not sure what are the specs, but i used to play the game maxed.

Meh can easily argue there is no in-game advantage; Monkey King isn't stupidly OP that it gives you auto win. TBH i don't have to many issues with it; Monkey King wouldn't be released for a month but at least we get to see him in the game because of early access.

Having more selection of units to counter your opponent is an in-game advantage.

well the other arugment is what if S2 puts out a hero that is stupidly OP, not like its not a common occurence

More like why is this even an option? Basically, S2 took a giant shit all over their HoN franchise with this new business model, you want to be competitive and not play in the cesspool? Pay us money. You want to win with early access? Pay us even more money. Want to improve overall skill levels? PAY US MORE MONEY.

F2P model flew in TF2 cause the basic levels worked at all levels, HoN doesn't.

^ People like you are so dramatic

I DON'T GET ONE HERO, BALANCE IS ALL GONE, I CAN'T BE COMPETATIVE WITHOUT THIS ONE HERO.

Jesus just stop playing if it bothers you so much. But no, all the nerds whining about this will still log in everyday.

My favorite thing so far is the trend of votekicking anyone that picks monkey king. S2 will ban your account if you do it, but apparently that's not stopping some people.
