And then hundreds. Hades is so good at tricking you into that, too. "Oh, i died. Guess i'll talk to the people in the house and stop" "Well, i am already here in my room, might as well buy the upgrades now" "Okay, but now that i am in the weapon room, lets see what weapon is shiny this round and equip it" "Lets test this weapon in the first room, then i'll stop" "Ooops, guess i did another run, lets talk to the people in the house and then stop" ...

I always felt like I was making a little progress somewhere, so that the next run was never going to be truly useless. More lore, upgrades, further in the dungeon... there was always something new that made me feel like I succeeded in the run.

Definitely me after I bought it just last December. I think I stopped at around 70-80 runs. I have 1 maxed out or almost maxed out aspect for every weapon. In the US, I use www.dekudeals.com to wish list games because it looks at the major retailers as well. It takes a long while before first party games go below $40 because it's Nintendo. And even then the sales can be very short-lived. You'll have better luck with third party games but those are usually multi platform.

For example, Super Mario Odyssey dropped from $60 to $43: https://www.dekudeals.com/items/super-mario-odyssey

For Hades, it took a few runs to grab me. I died in the first biome multiple times and was wondering whether the game is a good fit for me. But I kept progressing and eventually got into it. Learning curve is fairly mild even for sucky button mashers like me.

Maybe they just want to leave this generation way, way, way on top, and as long as the next Nintendo console (1) is backwards compatible with the Switch, (2) also works as a docked/handheld hybrid, and (3) has significantly better performance/hardware to run games more smoothly, it'll probably dominate the next generation too. Given how LoZ:BoTW was the defining game as Nintendo transitioned from the Wii U to the Switch, it would be fitting if LoZ:TotK was the defining game as Nintendo transitioned from the Switch to the next-gen console.

And looking at their past consoles and handhelds, it's about time. The Switch is 6 years old by now and that's around the time they release a new one. And as a business, you want to replace your product on your own terms instead of your competitors forcing it on you. Knowing me, if they release a new console next year, I'm likely going to buy it in 2025 anyway so 2 more years of the Switch for me.
