Only played Hades on that list, but can totally second the recommendation.

It did such an amazing job of eliciting the "Dammit, I died; Okay I'll try it just one more time" mindset. One more time became dozens of more times. And then hundreds.

Hades is so good at tricking you into that, too.

"Oh, i died. Guess i'll talk to the people in the house and stop"
"Well, i am already here in my room, might as well buy the upgrades now"
"Okay, but now that i am in the weapon room, lets see what weapon is shiny this round and equip it"
"Lets test this weapon in the first room, then i'll stop"
"Ooops, guess i did another run, lets talk to the people in the house and then stop"

I always felt like I was making a little progress somewhere, so that the next run was never going to be truly useless. More lore, upgrades, further in the dungeon... there was always something new that made me feel like I succeeded in the run.

Definitely me after I bought it just last December. I think I stopped at around 70-80 runs. I have 1 maxed out or almost maxed out aspect for every weapon.

It depends where you live. In the US, I use www.dekudeals.com to wish list games because it looks at the major retailers as well. It takes a long while before first party games go below $40 because it's Nintendo. And even then the sales can be very short-lived. You'll have better luck with third party games but those are usually multi platform.

DekuDeals is awesome. For example, Super Mario Odyssey dropped from $60 to $43: https://www.dekudeals.com/items/super-mario-odyssey

I'ma come in with the opposite direction for Hades. I think it's a good game, and I kinda enjoyed ploughing through two runs. However, I am not a particularly big fan of the roguelike "do the same thing several dozen times" loop, so if you're also not a fan of that stuff the game is probably going to seem overrated to you.

That is certainly true. I'm not a big fan of roguelikes either but I enjoyed it enough to last 70-80 runs. Some games are better at appealing outside of their genre. Another example is Zelda:Breath of the Wild. I'm not a big fan of open world games nor action rpgs but I ended up playing it for maybe 80-90 hours before I got tired of it.

For Hades, it took a few runs to grab me. I died in the first biome multiple times and was wondering whether the game is a good fit for me. But I kept progressing and eventually got into it. Learning curve is fairly mild even for sucky button mashers like me.

By runs I mean I cleared the game twice but you need to clear at least 10 times for the story and even more if you're wanting to full clear (ie. beat multiple times with every weapon etc.). I didn't find the game loop appealing enough to bother.

I guess a light half-year of games could imply a transition to the next-gen for Nintendo consoles, but the Switch is still outselling PlayStation and Xbox after all these years, so I don't know how necessary it is from a business/sales perspective. Maybe they just want to leave this generation way, way, way on top, and as long as the next Nintendo console (1) is backwards compatible with the Switch, (2) also works as a docked/handheld hybrid, and (3) has significantly better performance/hardware to run games more smoothly, it'll probably dominate the next generation too. Given how LoZ:BoTW was the defining game as Nintendo transitioned from the Wii U to the Switch, it would be fitting if LoZ:TotK was the defining game as Nintendo transitioned from the Switch to the next-gen console.

The Switch is showing its age, especially for multiplatform games. Unlike the current Xbox and Playstation, I think the next Switch is going to be a bigger leap in terms of technical capability. The PS4's graphics and performance is already enough for the vast majority of games. The PS5 is just overkill. Can't say the same for the Switch.

And looking at their past consoles and handhelds, it's about time. The Switch is 6 years old by now and that's around the time they release a new one. And as a business, you want to replace your product on your own terms instead of your competitors forcing it on you. Knowing me, if they release a new console next year, I'm likely going to buy it in 2025 anyway so 2 more years of the Switch for me.
