Distance - dark, futuristic racing game

I'm a huge WipEout fan as some of you know. Unfortunately, after Sony has closed down Psygnosis/Studio Liverpool (seriously, read this article, your mind will be blown) the chances of seeing a new one in the series are pretty close to zero.

For years I've been looking for a worthy successor to the title and lo and behold:

Now in early access on Steam (will be available on Windows - including Xbox, Mac, Linux and PS4). The game definitely does capture the mind-bending visuals, dark mood and background music of WipEout perfectly (I suspect that ex-Psygnosis people might be working on it, there's too much coincidence here). The game is fast paced, looks amazing and is damn hard despite using simple concepts (easy to learn, hard to master - just like its predecessor). Also, it has "overwhelmingly positive" reviews on Steam, which prompted me to purchase early access without any discounts. I do not regret my decision.

Does it have (or is it planned to have) Local Split-Screen multiplayer?

Do I need a controller/wheel or is mouse and keyboard alright? How much can you actually race against people/ais? I'm not too big of a fan of time attack only.

When I played wipeout on ps3 I wasn't too convinced, was a bit too minimalistic for my taste. I enjoyed f-zero gx and xg3 though, which had similar styles. This seems closer to wipeout though, more of a parkour than a race.

Might get it when it's in a sale, looks definitely fun to try out.

The game is actually developed by some fresh out of university students. When they were still in university they developed
Nitronic Rush, which is a smaller/indy version of Distance and free to download. I suggest you check this out, it's really good. I don't like and play racing games, but these are so much arcade fun

Work fine on Keyboard.
