At least I think so It doesn't help that pretty much all the pros are playing with classic graphics. Also, reforged graphics make it super hard to spectate. Some of the spell effects just aren't clear enough - forked lightning or chain lightning seem to go through entire animation in like 0.5 sec so they're super hard to spot during battle, smilarly key spells like death coil don't have this clear trace and are muted in color so it's easy to miss. I have a lot of trouble differentiating between human units (peasants, militia, swordsmen all look pretty much the same, in classic at least militia had axes now they get sword & shield just like swordsmen which makes them even harder to distinguish) and plenty of animations look rather janky. I hate the trees falling down en-masse animation when you pan camera back to base after some of them were cut and generally muted color schemes. It all has potential, but requires a lot more work. As it is it seems more like an alpha version of a game, not even beta. | ||

Granted I thought we were talking about a work in progress back then, but then it launched. Most of my streams since were with guys using classic since. I’m not saying it’s ‘proof’ but I’ve never heard Grubby, one of the most patient and diplomatic personalities I can think of be as scathing about anything. Granted Grubby scathing is mild by general standards. I don’t really like the art style, but personal preference is one thing. That said I don’t like it, it’s not as overly exaggerated and distinct as before. The new KoTG (portrait included) looks like some generic background character in a fantasy blockbuster, the old one if nothing else looks like an old dude, kinda fitting him being some ancient protector of the forest. Blademaster just looks like an Orc now, the old one was a bit slimmer than his fellow Orcs and had a real samurai vibe, you know like a BLADEMASTER? THAT’S WHAT HE DOES? Old DH looked really distinct from the rest of the Nelves to befit the whole you know, outcast Demon Hunter thing and it had the brooding Illidan portrait. I mean I could go on. Why are footmen as they are now? I just don’t even. Argh The lack of being able to tell things apart is a way bigger issue. OG WC3 was one of my favourite games ever so I’ll concede my nostalgic bias will come into play about art style. But distinguishability is really bad. Not just spell effects either, I mean from watching all of the Ro4 onwards especially and the third place game, so quite a lot of WC3 I found myself lost a lot in a few scenarios 1. Maybe this was the stream quality i was watching. I don’t ever remember archers setting up and not being able to tell what they were firing at without scanning their enemy’s healthbars. 2. BM and DH’s attack animations are, beyond terrible. I don’t understand why they are so bad. 3. At least twice watching Lawliet vs Infi I sat there and was thinking ‘ok I know he has two rax but how the fuck does Infi have so many footies, this makes no sense? Wait some of those are militia?’ | ||

I still have my old CD keys although missing my actual TFT CD. Where in the name of Zeus can I enter them and install the game? Surely I can right? I did it before Reforged came out but I might just be being an idiot. When it did and the update happened in the background I couldn’t play/find where to put in my CD keys when it launched and I was so pissy I haven’t wanted to reinvestigate since. Cheers if anyone has some info. | ||
