It doesnt have to, you can control for saturation and tone and color to make sure that your assets stand apart from the background and remain readable.
From what Ive seen of WC3: Refunded's art is that it looks like they completely half assed Blizzard's usual art MMO which is readability, they design things with strong color, silhouette, and everything to make sure things read well in their games and the backgrounds look like they didnt even attempt to balance out how things were sitting tonally, so it all looks bland and washed out.
Art is supposed to be the thing Blizzard never fucks up, so its really extra shameful that its fucked up here.

they really did destroy this game, huh..
Incredible.

Not sure yet but I think that they fixed joinbugs. At least yesterday and today, I had none in my last 15+ games (statistically extremely unlikely with the 20% rate before).

It is because they outsourced all the art to an outside company.

There's an open-source program called ReShade which allows you to modify how DirectX 9+ or OpenGL 2+ games appear to you. It does not modify any game files, it works as like a post-processing layer between your graphics card driver and the DirectX or OpenGL application you choose such as Warcraft 3 Reforged.
Here is a preset by Bilu called Crispy Reforged (v.2)
Original:

Preset on:

Notice how it has less of that yellowish haze, it is easier to see unit and building models.
Click here for a full-screen split-screen comparison so you can see the difference more easily. And check this and this for other examples where reducing the yellow haze makes the units more legible.
More WC3:R shader presets posted by users can be found here.

That's why I often check if I'm not on a lowered quality on streams, only to find that no...

Very interesting, thanks for posting the comparisons!

Thank you for this!! Looks so much better to me with the reshade. Now to find a way to apply this to B2W streams. Probably could do it by launching the stream in VLC and applying the reshade to it?

Video bitrate of twitch.tv/esl_wc3 is too low according to r-1.ch/analyzer/
Stream Info Resolution: 1920x1080 Frame Rate: 59 FPS Audio: aac (LC), 48000 Hz, stereo, fltp, 189 kb/s Total Bitrate: 5368 kbps H264 Profile: Main Likely Encoder: x264 (veryfast / superfast) Stream Uptime: 2h 17m 14s Reduced Delay: Yes Transcodes: Yes (5 options via 2017TranscodeX264_V2 ) ~5400 kbps is not enough for 1080p60 at that x264 encoder setting especially when you're playing a game with high resolution textures and there is lots of motion, you need 6000 kbps otherwise you get blockiness/pixelation mainly with the terrain any time the observer pans the camera around. Either Twitch is throttling the bitrate or ESL forgot to increase the bitrate.

Something I dislike in Reforged's spell animations is how quick they are. Mana Burn, Healing Wave, etc. are accelerated compared with their Classic counterparts, I don't know why they did this.

I must say fantastic casting, really help with all the details and deeper strategy while keeping up a good bit of energy too.
Going to try to be positive while this tournament is streaming haha, then back to being scathing on Reforged.
