After the wild success of Plants vs. Zombies, PopCap is releasing the sequel Plants vs. Zombies 2 this coming July (18?). From the looks of the few trailers and the Facebook adventure, as well as the few screenshots, it seems like it will follow the same formula of module based game in the original where you plant different sorts of plants to prevent zombies from reaching your house, as well as new modes (skins and era), and a more complex adventure mode. Here are a few notes on the game:
1. Cooler cuter graphics 2. New plants (boomerang plant, 5-pod plant? ice jalapeno, fire melon, etc etc) 3. New zombies (bikini zombie, astronaut zombie, mummies) 4. Cool new Super Mario Bros-like Adventure mode 5. Era mode, where you can choose among Future, Present, Pirate Ship, Egypt, etc.
PopCap the best. Plants vs Zombies, Rocket Mania and Peggle ate a TON of my time. I still think that Rocket Mania is their best product though and one of the best games ever created (brb, gotta play it again).
If they decide to release it on PC on a later date and removes the f2p model I might buy it. Shame since I liked to first one. Hopes it does well though.
Ok, so while waiting for PvZ2, show us your most simplest and most elegant or crazy layout for Last Stand. I know of gatling peas + firewood + ice pod, ive also tried all melons, but after a few tweaks, this is my simplest solution:

The second screenshot with the dollars and the gems is their Facebook game, Plants vs Zombies Adventures, which is f2p. It's a completely different game from PvZ2 afaik. I've played it a little and it's cute, nothing special.
I didn't this PvZ2 was going to be f2p, but please correct me if I'm wrong.
There are 3 new PvZ games. The PvZ2 is already out in Australia and New Zealand and you can change your phone to that region to DL it early if you live somewhere else. It stars jay and silent bob and it has a theme of time travel. its funny too that the game title is 'its about time'. When the creators were also big fans of starcraft, I assume it is also a homage to sc2's "hell, its about time".
The game looks really good, and I will be waiting for a pc port or hack to play it on. Lots of new stuff and better animation and art and story. ========
One is already out and I play it on facebook. Its called PvZ Adventures. It's kind of a stupid game (sort of like farmville or that simpsons iphone game). However, there is more than just collecting stuff and waiting time to collect more stuff and getting friends to join you to pass stuff. There are battles. there is a travel mode where you need to beat levels to advance the path. And there is a weekly 'brainball' where you can attack people's worlds to steal their brains with prizes for most brains. There is also random attacks on your town from the AI which are pretty easy.
The game is still beta and it's really laggy and buggy. It's also really annoying if you don't have people to join you to advance levels because you need 2-4 people to help you get passed the cop cars. I ended up playing the same level over and over and over and just farmed zombucks, gold coins, and exp.
I'm also not really a fan of the way the combat is. The zombies take paths and they can attack anything along the path, and your plants can shoot any direction within their range. You can't aim/control them, but you can spend 25 sun to perk plants with more defense, range, or power. And you can spend 25 sun to freeze and individual zombie for a couple of seconds. A big problem with this style is just the overlap. You can't click stuff when you need to. Even some of the menus are hard to click because of the HUD stuff.
Worst part about PvZ adventures is the gems. The only way to get them is to rank highly on brainball or pay IRL money to buy them. You need the gems to unlock seeds and other shit. You can beat the levels without the gem stuff but it makes it take much more time because you have limited plant space to grow plants and you have a cap on how many you can have and take with you to combat. Some plants I have so far take like 4 and 6 hours to grow. And the basic plants take like 1minute to an hour.
===== The third game (not sure if it's out yet or what) but its like a 3PS style action rpg as far as I can tell. It looks ok, but honestly not interested in that at all.
All of these games have extensive gameplay clips on YT, just search for em.
