Just got done playing with the group after joining as a viewer(Dave Clarke). Had a great time even though I had only watched ~5 minutes of a previous game.
Thanks again for entertaining a newbie and I'll be looking for a spot next week now that I have a better idea of whats going on. Hopefully I don't pull a Mafia spot... got some heat on me after this game I think.
I enjoy spectating this. However I feel while watching it, the day phase can go on for a really long time. While that is normal in most Mafia games. I think its hard to keep interest in the viewers while having some of them frequent for longer than 30 minutes. Could set a decent amount of time, 15 minutes would have a good flow. If they can't decide on who to lynch during that, the chat seems active enough to decide for them. Scary thought, but properly motivating to keep with the time allowed.

I like the idea. The chat could be called the 'City Council' or something along that line. strawpoll.me was suggested last night as a way for chat to vote.

Sheth got owned by Richard in the first game in the second week. It seemed so obvious who was mafia to me in that game. Sheth seems like such a bad liar. :O "Real cop come out?" No one does, everyone forgets. "Oh, Richard's lying. I'm cop."
Also, orb claiming that "i'm town" is adequate evidence on the first day. Then, they lynch 8mm. So many obvious tells.

I came up with it while we were playing at Raleigh and were waiting on people who would show up in like 10-15 minutes as another wave of matches ended. I was happy it worked so well on hangout!

I think with 14 players, 3 mafia, 1 cop, 1 medic, and 1 miller keeps its interesting (especially if people can defend well as miller). Miller is interchangeable, so I'm open to ideas (vigi?)

I randomly saw the calendar entry last time the stream was up and watched this. Are you guys playing this on a set time or just whenever it works out for everyone? Would love to tune in live next time too.

I think everyone is trying to up their game to show how "serious" they are in game, but we're all friends in the mafia chat. I think it'll start to tone down soon since everyone thinks it's getting a tad out of hand. It's a game about lying, so things can get heated when you're convinced the other person is scum.

so 1 question, the tweets on the top with donations, it seems like the players are spoiling what roles they are there/is there any way to avoid that? i mean 80% of the fun is having your own theories of who has what roles and if it keeps popping up who is what at the top of the screen who has what roles it ruins the fun B( or, rewatching this game now it seems like they were giving out false info? i dont know what to think anymore.
holy fuck if they had let suppy win there i would have raged. They had the plan of voting out suppy super early but then started FPSing as its called in poker (fancy play syndrome) and started accusing the 2 most townie people throughought the entire game who were not confirmed whereas all suppy had done was just sit there and be pretty quiet as they accused eachother. And it was super obvious it was suppy as he was just clinging to ribo being innocent as it was his only hope of winning, not because there was any good reason for it. started watching itr just a little bit last night and ended up watching the entire vod and now its 9 am

Its people playing mafia over skype which is some sort of party game I guess? Its also often called werewolf, the way it goes is that there are Mafia\werewolfs ,villagers (and usually some extra roles like Cop\medic etc) and all roles are hidden, then it cycles through days and nights, at night the mafia\werewolfs kill people, and at day everyone (including the 'bad guys') votes for who they think is a killer who dies\gets lynched. Every game you start out with no information and then the villagers try to piece together who the bad guys are by what everyone says\how they act\who gets killed\who everyone votes for etc, whereas the bad guys obv try to survive as long as possible and kill everyone.

didnt know wthat the hypnotisit was either but they explained it so: its a player with a 1 time use ability which you use at night, and if you and your target survive the night, your target has to, in the morning within like 10 seconds of daybreak, say what role they are. like say "I am mafia" if they are mafia. Obviously people can also fake being hypno'd, or do like sheth and say "I am cop" the first day within 10 seconds even though he did not get hypnoed and cause like 30 minutes of discussion around it :p
so i just finished watchin the week with trump and it was fun might feel like watching another vod later but there is like 20 weeks or something out now, so just wondering if anyone has a game\vod which is extra awesome and worth looking into to recommend?

What makes you say that? From my experience mafia\werewolf is the exact same game just different name for the bad guys. Obv there are tons of different variations of both with different lynching and different roles but the core is generally the same. Is there any good resources for playing Mafia in real life? How many should you minimum be to have an interesting game, what should the distribution be, should you announce or not announce roles of dead people. Are there any good\better ways to choose targets\give out roles or just people covering their eyes and then the mafia wakes up points at who they kill? I guess things like communication between people of different roles is pretty much impossible to do in a real life mafia game?
Would like to try playing mafia in real life, ignoring the difficulty of finding enough likeminded people, not sure how the rules should differ from an online\forum mafia\werewolf game.
IRL mafia is complicated. Generally you need at least 12. I distrubte roles as: mafia = #/3 cop = ciel(#/10) medic = floor(#/10)
Sometimes you have to adjust the roles based on the experience of the players. There's not really communication between roles. At night, everyone puts their head down and closes their eyes, then the mod calls on roles 1 at a time to make their choices, which are done by pointing. Role flipping is an awful idea when playing live, never do it.

The donations were from viewers, and if any role claims were mentioned, they were just speculation and not spoilers. Funny that you mentioned FPSing as apparently Trump is famous for doing so when he plays forum mafia. Judging by how he played last week during live mafia, he still likes to do it a little :p
Ok, so I have been watching and facepalming fairly regularly watching the code S mafia, as the mafia play gets further and further ahead of the town in its skill and sneakery. Most notably, Sheth, Ryuzilla and Neal ran a clinic on face-stomping town last week (in admittedly one of the most epic games of all time). One of the strongest town in code S, TheMango, has been frustratedly quoted as saying "I need to start playing worse town so i don't get lynched."
Not so, Mango! I believe I have a meta strategy that will help town start putting mafia on the back-foot in early game. I call it "The Mango Imperative."
In recent games, (bad) townies have had a habit of forgetting all the pro-town plays the "town mayor," (i.e. the most vocal town leader, I am not referring to the alternate official role) has made on day 1 and lynched him based on a verbal slip-up or just the fact that he stands out more than other players.
Here are the reasons that lynching said Mayor is a bad idea:
1. The Mayor is an obvious cop check night 1. Once Mayor is lynched, cop is likely forced to pick someone who is more or less a shot in the dark (he will probably have minor unsubstantiated suspicions on his target).
Suggested meta play: Save the Mayor! Cop must check him night 1, and if he is confirmed town, cop says nothing and lies low in order to get a night 2 check. This way the town can safely assume that cop has checked the town Mayor every game, and not have to worry about a meta-playing cop failing his duty to check the Mayor. Night 1 cop checks are less likely to reveal a mafia than later checks anyway, and it allows you to execute The Mango Imperative.
2. It puts an obvious target in front of cop and medic. The idea behind The Mango Imperative is that the role is taken on by a vanilla (no role) town. They are treated as a confirmed town and lead the charge in gathering information, pressuring people and going after mafia. This makes them very dangerous to leave in the game, and if Mafia don't have a good read on medic or cop, the town leader is a strong target (thanks to the implied cop check night one). In this way, a vanilla town can get things going for town, place himself between cop/medic and the mafia, and sacrifice himself to get the cop further into the game. He is also a strong medic save night 1, which might get you a double stack by mafia, in order to get the 1 confirmed town out of the mix.
(Alternatively, the medic might try and save someone else assuming mafia would rather kill 2 other townies in a hope of hitting medic or cop, but that's up to your meta philosophy. I will admit this Mayor position narrows the field for mafia when it comes to targeting the cop/medic, but his value is so great that in large games of 13 or more players, his value outweighs the dilution of the target pool).
3. It is one person guaranteed not to be mislynched night 1, narrowing your targets slightly and bettering your odds of getting a night 1 mafia lynch.
Here is how it screws the mafia:
It is simple for town! Even if the cop is killed early (night 0 or 1) the pressure of being town mayor, and the guarantee of a cop check mean that the only person who would step up to the role must be a Townie. The mafia will not know for sure that the cop is dead until later on in the game, so it is too dangerous to just try and take the role. This means the town never has to consider that the Mayor might have been mafia from the beginning.
Mafia can't cast suspicion on this guy. They have to kill him eventually. Anybody in late game who slips up and tries to cast suspicion on him will be an instant mafia suspect (because the town will not forget that he is "confirmed," but mafia might get desperate or make the mistake of sending suspicion his way).
Mafia will always have to consider that there could be a medic save on the Mayor. This will add complexity to the meta they have to use moving forward.
It pushes town forward out of the gates in a way that we haven't seen yet. They will have a strong leader and know that they aren't being intentionally misled. It will change the face of day 1 forever, from a wasteland devoid of any concrete reads to following a confirmed townie.
Cop will turn into a later game player, rather than a "shot in the dark and hope to come out day 1 or 2 with a mafia check." Remember, having the confirmed townie in front of cop and medic might turn cop into an average life-span of 4 or 5 days, rather than 2 or 3. This can especially be true if there is a general rule that medic comes out approximately day 4 as a sacrifice to try and confirm more townies and push the cop forward into a late game check.
It gives town another confirmed role. This is powerful because it ups the number of confirmable roles by 1. Before The Mango Imperative, there would have been confirmable roles of Cop, Vigilante, Medic (3). Now add mayor to the mix, and that number is 4. This will apply to every game, helping town immensely.
I will leave it at that for now, before this post gets too long. However, I look forward to The Mango Imperative being implemented into mafia games so the meta can evolve. I think it will give town the edge they need to become competitive again, because the Code S players have gotten extremely good as mafia.
Edit: A few people have expressed concerns that mafia could use this to derail town for half a day or more just arguing who should be the mayor.
Proper execution to prevent town derailment:
Town decides the mayor within 5 minutes of game start. Any longer is a waste of the town's time, and stalling should be seen as a mafia tactic. The beauty of this meta is that it does not matter who the mayor is, as long as they are a capable leader. Ideally someone who is valuable to remove suspicion from. Aside from that, you don't need to overthink it. Select the mayor and move on, he is guaranteed to be vetted by day 2.

Ah, just noted it said the name of a player infront of every donation, like Donation 5$ TrumpSC: I am mafiaaaa . that just means the donation goes to that player, or is done in that "players name" or something?

So uhh question , is there any rules against playing specifically to counter roles, namely hypno? If on day 1 you just created a specific order where everyone says a a random villa role (maybe everyone says cop or half say cop half say medic) at the start of every day quickly and after eachother, it counteracts the hypno potentially outing a good town role, whereas a mafia still has to say he is mafia and obv nobody would fake claim mafia.
Edit: annoys me when they dont play like i think they should, watching 2nd game now where sheth claims vigi (fake or not I dont know yet.) And they are not sure what to do\whether sheth is real or not think he could be vigi. What they should say is Tell sheth Either he kills Jaison as vigi in the night, or he gets lynched next day.

I'd like to hear some thought behinds Storr's playstyle a little. I was getting a frustrated in chat (which was poor form), but I'm kind of struggling to understand. I'll put forward two instances that occurred, to show why I think the hyper aggressive style he is moving towards is no longer good for town.
1. Last weeks game 1 Within the first minute of day 1, Storr says "Daniel is Mafia. I want to lynch Daniel". Daniel gets formalled, a few people poke at him a bit and just before going to vote he reveals he is Cop, and ends up dying soon after. As it was only 1 minute into the game, the majority of the players hadn't even spoken. Later Storr claims he had no reason for formalling Daniel and wouldn't have voted, yet earlier he made it clear he wanted to lynch him. After rewatching the VOD, i do not blame Daniel for thinking he might be voted off, as it felt like he could have been.
2. This week game 1 Storr claims town on day 1. He goes hard on Cable, saying he wants to formal him (and lynch IIRC). Storr claims town on day 2. Storr keeps bringing up Cable, until he eventually gets formalled and voted out. Storr then claims Vigi, making the real Vigi reveal his role in a counter claim - Vigi ends up shooting him out of frustration for forcing him to reveal against his will. At the end of the game we learn the Cable was Cop.
In both games, players were directly asking why Storr was going hard after these players, and in both cases no reason was given. After each game (IIRC), players commented that they thought Storr had some sort of knowledge not available to vanilla town for him to push so hard on certain players.
Now correct me if I'm wrong, in both cases Storr was unintentionally misleading town, or at the very least unintentionally confusing them. I personally was extremely confused why Storr was making these plays and it felt very Mafia - but in a way too obvious way. Whilst he was trying to gain information or act in a way he thought was correct, it lead to important town roles both be revealed and killed. Furthermore it lead to town roles/players get frustrated with his play, and make plays that may not have been in towns interest. Now whether Storr thought these plays were the right ones to make, I felt like he was not considering what the entire town wanted to do. If someone asks you to back down and give some room to possibly question other players, isn't it pro-town play to do so - especially considering Storr had no solid evidence or reason to push so hard on these players?
Lastly, i think there is one other important factor that makes Storr's style very dangerous - the unwritten rule of not discussing your vote before you go to vote. A month or so ago, the person on the chopping block could get some sort of idea if they were going to get lynched. If you were a role, there was at least some some comfort in knowing 3 or 4 people weren't going to vote. However with the no vote discussing rule, town roles are obviously a lot more likely to reveal themselves in case they were voted off with information the town needs. This has been very evident in the last couple of weeks.
I understand the idea behind getting town moving along, and putting pressure on people, however I'm struggling to understand this hyper aggressive style Storr has taken up (he has always been aggressive, but lately it's over 9000).

A month or so ago, the person on the chopping block could get some sort of idea if they were going to get lynched. If you were a role, there was at least some some comfort in knowing 3 or 4 people weren't going to vote. However with the no vote discussing rule, town roles are obviously a lot more likely to reveal themselves in case they were voted off with information the town needs. This has been very evident in the last couple of weeks.
I understand the idea behind getting town moving along, and putting pressure on people, however I'm struggling to understand this hyper aggressive style Storr has taken up (he has always been aggressive, but lately it's over 9000).

Storr's reasoning for pushing on daniel early on day 1 was because Storr heard someone say that they were cop at the start of the round (it was phil, but storr didnt know that), and then Daniel kept trying to draw out who said that they were cop (because daniel was in fact cop). Storr interpreted this as mafia play, and thinking the hypno cop claim was genuine made an effort to stop the cop hypno claim from being outed (as not many people heard it).

Daniel did make a remark about Phil, however when people questioned Storr why he was going on Daniel, Storr gave no concrete reason. Later on when they again questioned Storr, he gave false statements about Daniels action, and stated he has no reason for wanting to formal him.
So I would argue my point is correct, as he was unintentionally misleading or confusing town by withholding information that no one else seemed to have.

Edit: annoys me when they dont play like i think they should, watching 2nd game now where sheth claims vigi (fake or not I dont know yet.) And they are not sure what to do\whether sheth is real or not think he could be vigi. What they should say is Tell sheth Either he kills Jaison as vigi in the night, or he gets lynched next day.
Edit: going to assume the vigi can only kill 1 person in a game by how they are playing? :s (someone please confirm\deny)
I suggested this once on stream, but I think the best way to handle hypno is to have everyone just be quiet for the first 30 seconds of day time. A hypno outing a mafia is really strong (it's a confirmed check because nobody else is going to say "I'm mafia"), and this guarantees that it does not go unnoticed.
in short, shit happens. people can say for what ever reason why i did what i did. But the reality comes down to, i picked someone and i figured they are good to look at. pressure happens in some cases ill hit a role. in others ill hit a mafia. some i hit town. I feel votes are really important for town, especially on days when we have 2 lynches.
As for cable, yeah i pushed on him hard all game day 1. And in reality if he had been voted on as the first or second lynch the vote in almost all certainty would have failed. As the game dragged on, mafia latched onto him (kelly and loda). Town got tired, town wanted a second lynch and after 7+ lynches had been done it gets easier and easier for the lynch to go imo.
Do i regret pushing on Daniel or cable? no. Do i think they could have played differently perhaps. I understand my play is blunt brash and w/e else you want to say, however please understand this is a game and not RL.

Oh no, don't take it personally. It's really nothing against you on a personal level, just your gameplay at times.
I feel like a lot of your actions are very non-obvious (whether or not intentional). I think it's great that you try and push town forward, but think the way you've been doing it lately gives mixed signals and a lot of the time it gets you killed, town killed, or leaves town confused.
Anyway I don't want to come off preachy, as I do find the games entertaining and have to come accept your latest style of playing I'll end by saying I would love it if you played a tiny bit more diplomatic and were a bit more transparent with your gameplay. I think you'd be an even greater service to your townsmen.
damn the end of tonight's game was pretty harsh, i really hope kiwi is alright. i like how neal said he's gonna have to have a word about this with him, he always seems to drink way too much. be well kiwi, and maybe start drinking a bit less from now on (or just stop drinking for good, alcohol suxx anyways imo).
Ok so can someone help me understand why its not best to just leave both cops alive when theres a cop claim and a counterclaim in a 1KP game, like last esports mafias second game? Erik and Phil both claimed cop on day 1, there were 3 mafia 1 sniper 1 vigi and sometowns, and town did not seem sure who was the mafia. They were debating killing both (1 with sniper and 1 with vote). To me it seems like the super obvious play is to let both leave, most likely mafia kills the real cop in the night, then you can get a 100% mafia lynch next day. If mafia lets both live, you just let them live again and again, for every day you get 1 more check as cop, the longer this goes on the higher the chance is for either of the cops to check, or "check" one of the other roles, and as soon as that happens you know who is the mafia and who is the real cop. ¨
