There are some rather attractive things about this MMO for the hardcore players who prefer pvp over boring, lame pve.
-Permadeath They boast what I would consider to be a semi-permanent death kind of thing... after dying, you have a certain amount of time to find someone to resurrect you. In a town, or at a mystical statue in the wild. From my experience it seems like the statues at least only have a chance to revive you. If it fails you get the permadeath you deserve. You can boost this chance by paying tributes, such as gold. Upon dying permanently, you lose everything that character possesses - this includes items purchased with real currency!!
-Global pvp = on This means in dungeons, raids, open world quests, and yes, in cities and towns. Anyone can turn on you at any time, any where, and claim your life. People in your party can even stab you in the back.
-Bounty Hunting Criminals' (players who kill friendly NPC's and other players, steal, etc) names become increasingly read the badder they are. Eventually bounties are put on the heads of the worst. Kill them for a prize.
The Hardest MMO Ever: No auto-regeneration, no auto-leveling, no safe zones. Enemies respawn faster than you can kill them – so keep moving! Are you up for the challenge?
Classic MMO Mechanics: There are countless dungeons to crawl, puzzles to solve and traps to disarm.
Total Character Customization: Four character classes, three alignments and five races.
Each class can be combined with the others to create hybrid classes. Each of the races has unique advantages, all the way down to different speeds of attacks with different weapon types.
Permadeath: If you fail to prepare properly, your character may be lost forever upon death.
Server-Wide PVP: It’s kill or be killed in the world of Wizardry Online. Team up early to discourage opportunistic players – or form your own roving gang of murderers and thieves!
Sophisticated Crime System: When you kill or steal from other players, you become a criminal. Watch out for the guards, or you may end up in prison!
Bounty Hunters: Only the best players can survive with a price on their heads. Will you live in infamy, hiding in the slums? Or will you bring people like that to justice?
Free to Play. Your Way: Our philosophy is simple. Free games. No commitment. And if you want to buy, it’s on your terms.
There is a "trial" dungeon to get you used to the game mechanics before they let you do "real quests." In this dungeon, I opened a chest booby trapped with poison (my disarm attempt failed), and almost instantly died. You kill a monster and continue to find a dead end, turn around not 5 seconds later and the monster has already respawned. The lack of auto-healing made this feel like a somewhat difficult task as a low armor/hp class.
As for the auto-healing, I believe this means no passive regen of any kind. You have to use potions, stay at inns, drink from magic wells, etc. Neither HP nor Mana passively regenerate.
Humans are suitable for all classes. Of all the races, they are the most balanced.
Elves tend to orient towards magical classes due to their high intelligence and piety. On the other hand, their power and vitality are low, making them ill suited to the Fighter class.
Their durable bodies and impressive strength make Dwarves the ideal Fighters. In addition, their piety makes them suited to play Priest classes as well.
Bound in piety, Gnomes excel at the Priest class. However, their physical strength and vitality makes them equally suited to join the Fighter class as well.
Fast and lucky, Porkuls are great at the Thief class. Due to their low ability scores it's often tough for them to be successful in other classes.
Fighter characters are easy to play due to their high HP and excellent balance between attack and defense. By leveling up, Fighters can specialize in either attack or defense. However, Fighters cannot learn magic and are not skilled at avoiding magic attacks.
Their Magic Points (MP) and inability to wear heavy armor limit Mages on the battlefield. However, they are capable of the highest DPS in the game. Mages may also use status effects against their enemies, helping the class survive in solo play and making them a must-have party member, so long as the player doesn't pull all the Hate to themselves and make them hard to protect.
Priests have the ability to heal and buff other players, making them welcome in any party, while retaining the ability to be a strong class on their own. They have the 2nd most HP growth in the game. They share certain Mage and Fighter armors, without being able to wear the heaviest of armors or Thief/Fighter specific equipment.
Thieves take smarts and technique to use effectively. They are powerhouses able to speedily decide the fate of battle. Their lighter armor is generally well balanced between magic and physical defense. They share Mage and certain Fighter armor types.
Has anyone tried this game yet? The global pvp really interests me. Some feedback would be awesome.

I don't really know.
Here's a post on their forums of someone explaining the things this game doesn't do very well.
Alright here's a bunch of reasons why:
There are 3 dungeons the game reuses over and over. Castle, Sewer, Jungle.
There are 10 or so monsters the game uses over and over.
As you've stated, movement is clunky. You immediately feel this as soon as you start playing because the sheathing/unsheathing mechanic. On top of that, you now jump backwards when you weapon is unsheathed. Your movement also changes when you target something. it makes your slow clunky character move even slower and clunkier. You can't even look away without detargeting.
But this is only the beginning of the clunkiness. You can feel the unresponsiveness of your character again in animation locks. For example, simple emotes can't even be broken by trying to move. If you type /wave you will be stuck waving until that wave is done. This becomes a problem in instances with casting. You may have a 1seond cast time but on top of that there may also be an additional second long animation lock. If you are in a dungeon an animation lock like this is more than enough to get you killed.
There are many other brief annoying moments that the game decides to freeze you . The "clear" when you beat a final battle. The "you have died screen" that lasts several seconds before you can move as a ghost. Unskippable chat. The stupid resurrection cut scene every time you resurrect.
Not only is the game play clunky, there are also clunky rules which have been imposed in the game. Let's look at the criminal system. Attacking another player a few times will result in being a criminal for 72 hours, on all of your characters. A completely disproportionate punishment to the crime.
As I stated there is little to no information available on your skills so you have no idea how your character will turn out when putting points into skills. You also have to go back to level 1 if you want to try a new build. This is unacceptable as leveling takes an inordinate amount of time and CANNOT be done solo.
Lets look at leveling. Completing a dungeon DOES NOT mean you are prepared for the next dungeon. Upon completing a dungeon you have to go back and grind that dungeon for hours and hours to level up. What does this accomplish? What is the point of me killing 1000 assault bulls? Did I learn something on the 999th assault bull that I didn't already know on the 500th? No. It's pointless, unnecessary and uninteresting game play.
Let's face it. The game is hard. I get 1 shot by basically everything. That alone is enough to make people stop playing. But when I die from something stupid like an animation lock, that's the kind of thing that let's me know this game is ****.
Sounds really quite dumb, MMOs just can't achieve the kind of 'difficulty' people like, skill based such as Dark Souls. The mechanics just aren't in place. Perma death with real money item loss is really bad. Having animation locks like that sounds awful and not enjoyable to play.
The only MMO I can think if with permadeath is Realm of the Mad God but that works because the whole game is seemingly built around it and its a responsive shooter so if you die it's your fault except for the occasional lag spikes which show that even in a good system MMOs with permadeath will still be unfair.
In all honesty this sounds like a game constructed by someone who saw that people thought MMOs were often easy, saw a gap in the market and tried to fill it without actually understanding what a hard means and just used cheap tricks to achieve it. Like inferno in D3 being 'hard'.
I've tried this. Went into it with the same hype as you've shown and was thoroughly disappointed. It says permadeath but you can die quite a few times without actually permadying. Physics in terms of your character and environment interaction is dated, sort of like FFXI with a little more dynamics as in you can jump across ledges and climb ladders.
Item systems and skill systems is very dated. Quest system is typical asian MMORPG, quite bad if you have any remote standards, dungeons are sort of event driven, but the explanations are quite bad. Targetting is annoying.
What this game has, is a set of features which could have been cool, had it been executed about 100 times better. One of the cool features is reborn system, which doesn't become relevant unless you sacrifice many hours of your life into the game. The permadeath aspect is in the sense of a % game, and in the beginning you get 90%+ chances, so there's really no danger in dying. In the case that you actually die, you actually have a second chance.
You'd think this is a game, but it isn't. It's a treasure hunt. You're hunting for enjoyment, and once you embark on this journey, every hour you put into it is an hour wasted. It is a painful experience when you play 12 hours and realise playing Mists of Pandaria would have given ten times the enjoyment, and you still haven't found more than half a good thing in Wizardry. I'm not the most hardcore MMO-gamer, but the difference in quality from this game to other games you can play for free these days is so huge.
