Grizz.
Howard's "cancerous" reputation is overblown. Anyone who doesn't want the guy who leads the league in rebounding and averages a double-double is a fool. The Magic shit was on him, yeah, but you can't blame the Lakers shit on him.
|
so are the mavs fucked if they don't get cp3 or howard?
|
Next offseason they could get someone big, and I think Dirk would have at least 1 year for that season no? Not fucked but they'd have to seriously fuck up to not get at least one free agent with all the cap space they have.

it's not about not wanting him, it's about not wanting to pay the max for him. given rockets circumstances where we already have a poor man's dwight, josh smith would be much more complementary than having to reconfigure ourselves with dwight.

I'm not talking about any situation in particular, but I've seen a lot of "we don't want Dwight", from fans of a couple different teams, and thought it was dumb.
IMO Howard's one of those players you want on your team no matter what. You get him, you either move him to PF or deal Asik (there's plenty of teams that would love him/his potential/his contract).
|
I don't like Dwight's fit for Houston anyway. Him and Asik are basically the same player, except Dwight's a little better shot blocker and a little better with post moves. They're both pretty mediocre in the post, and useless for jump shots. If you have both of them you're basically wasting money for two starters.
Now, if we got K. Love, I'd be all over that. Josh Smith would fit too, but I like Love better.
|
Anyone would want Love. Stretch 4 who also is fine down low and rebounding. Pretty much all you want from a 4 really.

You're talking about a max contract though, right? I don't know if I'd put that much faith in Howard if you want to be a championship winning basketball team. That's too much imo.

Yes. 17/12 points/rebounds and what he brings defensively is most definitely worth a max contract. He played most of the year hurt and it showed and managed to put up those numbers despite that, and looked more like his old self towards the end of the season. Only 2 years ago he was undoubtedly the best center in the game and he's showing he can still be that next year, if he's not he's definitely top 5, and with the premium dudes with size get he's definitely worth the max. The only reason his stock was devalued was because of how he handled his exit from Orlando, which shouldn't be a problem since he's picking where he's going, the media train around "why to the Lakers suck" and trying to find a scapegoat, and the fact that he was hiding the fact that he was injured, so people assumed he was playing poorly because he got worse or something. That plus the fact that the Lakers were injured so they had to play their near-league-worst bench next to him and all the Lakers guards, even the All Stars, suck at defense made him look much worse than he actually is. Bottom line if Horford, Hibbert, and Bynum get the max, and Javale mcgee gets 44 million, Dwight Howard deserves the max too.

I don't understand how Dallas is a prospective team anyway, all their players are off contract after this season. The only guarantee is Dirk and Marion, the rest of the team is a crap shoot. I think I read somewhere that OJ Mayo wasn't instead in re-signing to Dallas.

A lot of cap space, so you can potentially team up with Dirk+ another max contract player, plus Cuban and front office have shown that they both know how to and are willing to spend to put together an amazing team,

Ok, well I'm gonna take a quote from Kenny Smith on Dwight's max contract. "Yeah, I think he's worth it, but I wouldn't pay it".
|
I guess we'll see in the next couple years but I think he'll prove the haters wrong.

well that's where our opinions differ, i don't think it's dumb to keep asik over howard. he provides almost the same skill set (minus the athleticism but better free throw) for a fraction of his price...

Only Asik can't catch the damn basketball lol I think Howard is much better offensively and slightly better defensively.

all true, not disagreeing, but what we need is to address our PF. i'd rather see a signficant upgrade at the 4 than pay double for dwight for a few extra dunks. if we day say get smith, then our offensive reliance on asik will be even further reduced

I'm not saying you don't need a good PF more, but it's hard enough to attract one max contract guy and if Dwight wants to come to your city, you say yes and worry about logistics later.
I don't think ya'll have an offensive reliance on Asik at all, you do on Lin and Harden and that weird 4th quarter lin/harden PnR that somehow works.

Dwight can't play PF with Asik playing at the same
eta: thought I saw someone suggest the idea earlier.
