What if we could put Kidd's brain inside of Melo?
Then JR would be shooting half of the Knicks shots.

George has upside and is a genuine two way player but is far inferior to Melo currently. George by a pretty good margin. George is younger, a top-flight defender, developing offensive player, and can fit into a scheme. Melo doesn't fit into schemes...he is the scheme and a sub-par defender.

I would prefer to have PG on my team with another player who can carry an offense, but I don't know that I'd prefer PG over Melo as the player to carry my offense. Too hard to compare the two and really pointless in my opinion.

George on the other hand is a weak scorer, but a good offensive player. He isn't going to carry the scoring load - but he will destroy the other team's scoring options sans a super efficient star. His defensive impact is already at the Lebron/Tony Allen level and he's an amazing rebounder. I dont think it's easy to compare them but if you're asking me who would I draft as a rookie I can't see anyone picking Melo. A wing defender with a do it all game like that is cheaper and his impact on both sides of the ball DWARFS Melos. Indy is beating them up because PG is single covering Melo most of the time and making it difficult for the Knicks rotations to get going. His on and off ball defense are Superstar level. On May 15 2013 16:26 Itsmedudeman wrote: He's not good at getting his teammates shots though. What's the point of having such a high USG % if the only thing he can do is score? If he can't get 40 every night, then what's happening on those possessions? Either he ends up with a low FG % cause he misses a lot, or he just throws it out and they're back at square 1 with even less time on the clock to do anything. That's basically what's happening this series. The USG% is insane. He's at Jordan/Wade/Kobe levels without even half the production. Even outside the FG% being horrid - no assist production? Not saying it is a valid level of measuring passing ability but under 2 per game is staggering for such an insane usage %. Literally how can this guy be considered one of the best players in the league using so many possessions and his team was a 3rd quarter run in game 2 from being swept as a #2 seed?

All-star type guy or Superstar type guy? Does have a good player comparison at the SF spot (Durant, Melo, Pierce, P George, Deng etc?) Does to correlate/project anything like those guys? imo media is just looking for another young star to latch onto considering we havent had one in what seems like forever

see what he does in college though, it's a lot more interesting now that he hasn't bandwagoned kentucky. little bit of a risky move since he probably would've gone #1 even if he wasn't the clear best player at uk

Wiggins is probably the most athletic basketball player who isn't in the NBA, with absurd speed and jumping ability (he can get his chin above the rim.) His jump shot is getting better but not great, and his handling is okay. He certainly has the tools to be a superstar athletically, on both offense and defense, but I think the praise is a bit premature. We'll see how he does in college when he isn't 5 orders of magnitude more athletic than everyone else. Plus it requires dedication to his jump shot, handling and especially defense. The comparisons to Lebron are just for hype. Lebron was 40 lbs heavier and more well rounded in highschool. Wiggins looks amazing for an 18 year old. Lebron looked amazing for a 24 year old.

This is a somewhat biased and heavy-handed assessment of Melo. For one Woodson is the one calling up all these ISOs for him and JR, he's just the one who has to execute. Calling him a terrible chucker is just as reactionary as people calling Curry an All-Star/top 3 PG, which this thread also called out as being reactionary bullshit. Melo's gotten better as a passer and is not a "nothing" on defense, a title I reserve for players like Kevin Martin and David Lee. He can be around league average at D, and he's a far more versatile scorer than George and has the most diverse offensive skillset out of anyone in the league. I might take Paul George too but saying Melo isn't a max contract player when he clearly is (stacked up to other players who get max contracts) is a bit much.

A team should use him as a 6th man and a one-man bench and then pull him out when he goes too crazy with his shots. You would need a top-heavy team though. The level of hate is ridiculous. Melo as a 6th man? It's not Melo's fault that we don't have a legit 2nd option on this team. Amare is injured, J.R. has been inconsistent, and no one else can even come close to taking the pressure off Melo. It's also not his fault that Woody can't draw up any decent plays. Look at his teams from the Atlanta days, it was iso J.J. every damn play, which is why all of his Hawk teams got killed. Fire Woodson, give this team a decent coach and they will compete with Miami. SMH @ calling him a 6th man, the trolling is ridiculous.
