Behold my wisdom: Upgrades do not merely increase atk/def values. Since they change the balance between atk/def and number of units, they slightly decrease casualties as well. eg: 1000 Swingerclubs vs 500 Phalanx attack -> 40000 atk <-> 20000 def --> 50% losses, 500 Swingers swing no more now assuming each upgrade gives 2% (which they don't they go up from 1,5% to 2% but meh) to get 40000 atk with Lvl 10 Swingers you only need 834 -> 834 Swingerclubs vs 500 Phalanx -> 40000 <> 20000 -> 50% losses, 417 Clubs bite the dust. Ergo if you attack much and thus often lose some units, upgrades will pay off sooner or later. | ||

You mentioned the tiny "flaws" of that formula already (crop, raiding capacity). My post added a 'lil somwthing extra, showing that you actually save some units by upgrading (still takes a long time or rather a lot of battles to pay the upgradecosts but that's beside the point). At the moment I wouldn't upgrade very much. You should be able to keep at least 4-5k clubbers busy raiding and as you already mentioned, upgrades don't carry bounty. Later on, when you a) have to "clear" some larger farms or b) go to war for the sake of whatever you please, upgrades come in quite handy (at least in your main attacking [ =/= farming] and defending villages. | ||
