I'm sure the amount of money Werster brings won't bankrupt Twitch. He is just one of the big streamers in the speedrunning community, and there are several other communities with a bigger viewership.

Actually (and do correct me if I'm wrong here), Werster (like most speedrunners) doesn't run any ads, so they are not losing any money at all. The only money they would lose are his future subscribers, and in contrast to that they'll save money on not having his stream online.

It's not that Twith doesn't have absurd standards for what they accept as emotes, they clearly make no sense at all, but when their post says copyrighted content is "100x worse" than the picture of a cat, it's hard to take it seriously. Noone cares about random emotes called "muhboopies" or characters that you can find pictures far worse than the NightLine one.

People are just focusing on the wrong things. Twitch is completelly inconsistent in their rulings and applied absurd punishments for little reason, and this is nothing new, but the community seems to be more worried about seeing a picture that remembers them some people like weird shit. In Twitch chat of all places, not the safest enviroment for children. And this is the gaming community, they are not exactly known for their support of censorship on violence and sex in their own media.

Copyright violations in the form of emoticons can be easily dealt with, however, while posing the same risks. Just remove them. Done. Everything works just as it did before. So it makes sense to be more proactive there.

Of course I'm not saying twitch couldn't have been more communicative about this and do its part to avoid all this drama, but still. Demanding a solution for the music streaming problem to "even the score" is about the most destructive thing the streaming community could possibly do to itself.

The issue with emotes is that their rulings are extremelly inconsistent. Several subs submit obvious copyright material and they are accepted, some subs sent far less obvious material and it gets rejected. It all seems to depend on who analyzes it and how much they like the streamer. It has been a point of discussion for a very long time. Twith really needs to get their shit straight about it. You either ban copyrighted material for everyone, or you don't unless the company asks you to remove it.

Yes, sub icons are probally even more often copyrighted material, I was just thinking of both of them as emotes.

Then focus on that issue. It certainly makes sense to demand consistent rules being applied, though if twitch is going to do that, they're most likely going to delete a whole lot more icons in the process, leading to more protests of the mob.

Adam_AK says he won't stream until channels are reinstated. The reddit thread is getting every comment deleted en masse, NightLight emote is gone. Horror made a public tweet saying he broke up with his boyfriend, and werster hasn't even woken up yet.

Shit has yet to hit the fan until werster wakes up.

I faintly remember there being drama about Horror multiple times before. Not to this scale of course.

I really hope Werster gets unbanned, I loved watching his stream. Oh well, I guess time will tell!

Duke's ban was apparently changed to a 7 day ban, he got a response and posted on irc. It seems odd that they would ip ban him from both home and work if it was initially a temporary ban.
