Supposedly because he made a joke about a twitch admin? Peaches and Werster have now been banned as well, I guess for having stream titles referencing how duke got banned

No they haven't, it's just Twitch being Twitch and redirecting browsers to /tos_violation.

Well no one can watch any of their videos and they can't stream. I'm not sure how that's different from being banned.

There are screenshots of an admin in peaches chat threatening to close his stream if he doesn't remove references to horror from his title.

So, do I get that right? Various streamers publicly call for a twitch admin to be removed, and they get banned for that?

Oh, the drama.

the admin in question has a history of shutting down streams that banned users are participating in, so this has rather huge implications for AGDQ.

Oh wow, Werster's stream got shut down??!

I thought it was all a big joke, because the chat was going crazy over it while he was running

I dunno, I suppose the admins have the right, but at the same time, think it's really silly of them for doing so :/

Yep, it's "official"; the channels are down with a TOS violation. So much drama. I'm gonna go try to enjoy my birthday until this blows over.

Of course twitch can ban whoever they want for any reason--they have a TOS for a reason--but that doesn't mean it can't blow up in their face. The community should make sure it does blow up to the extent possible.

From Werster's Chat:

cosmowright: Chris, yeah but my point is for example cyghfers emotes were not DMCA'd from the company who owns the copyright

chris92: well, cosmo, how horror handles it is this: he usually asks around if anyone knows if an emote is copyrighted, e.g. in our admin conferences and in the twitch office

» I'm not exactly sure if it was a DMCA or not, but from the pastebin cyghfer posted it sounded like it was a takedown request

So this all stems from twitch sub-emotes

but on topic of streaming copyrighted music

cosmowright: the sub emotes thing is somewhat hypocritical when you look at league streamers with 15k viewers playing copyrighted music the entire stream and nobody forcing them to stop

chris92: well, cosmo, I can't remember a single incident of Twitch receiving a DMCA notice for copyrighted music

chris92: because most companies simply don't care about twitch

Seems kind of wonky to care about twitch emotes, when nobody specifically asked for it to be taken down from the original owners

I mean copyrighted music certainly seems to have more impact

also (un)biased picture for all the drama:

After watching that picture, I feel like I know even less about what the heck happened than before.

So, basically, a twitch admin did not allow a copyrighted picture to be an emote, and now he's the devil? Twitch does not seem to have the best PR here, but I still don't get what caused all this in the first place.

Three points:

1. Horror has been erratic in the past, to the point where people are tired of his "power tripping". For example, he added a global Twitch emote for his boyfriend, circumventing the entire process of adding emotes, which I personally feel is no big deal and just a minor perk of having to deal with immature idiots on a daily basis, but there it is.

2. This does not appear to have been a copyright notice to begin with, but rather Horror deciding on his own to remove a single streamer's emotes based on a troll's complaints. The characters are certainly copyrighted and they are well within their legal right to do this (and, in fact, have to, if a company ever issues such an order), but it was poorly handled.

3. The actual catalyst for the current drama, however, was the banning of Duke_Bilgewater for "making a joke" in chat, which is Twitch chat's Newspeak for "making a blatantly sexual jab at a homosexual".

The rest is just drama, homophobia, bigotry, and entitlement.

What I really don't understand the is complaints that adding someone just because it's his boyfriend. Not that diferent from adding someone's dog or random people from Twitch.

The main difference is his boyfriend isn't a member of Twitch staff, and historically global Twitch emotes have been Twitch staff members, administrators, and popular and well-known streamers, of which NightLight is neither. As I said, I don't care and I'm fine with this as a perk of the job, but people will latch on to anything when they feel an injustice has occurred.

FrankerZ isn't exactly on a payroll I assume. Yes, a pet isn't a boyfriend, but Twitch never had a set of rules for the faces they add. It's obvious people aren't enraged by Twitch's nepotism when choosing an emote and that this would not be such a big deal if this wan't horror or if this was the hot wife of a Twitch admin.

It's just people hiding behind an excuse that doesn't sound as bad when they say it out loud.

What the hell? A twitch staff banning entire channels for basically no reason? What the hell.

There really really should be more publicity about this until twitch reverts the bans, this is ridiculous.

A side from the photo , I pulled this off reddit , seems simple and easy to understand.

note : I'm copying and pasting from here

Here’s the deal:

Horror is a lead Twitch admin who happens to be a gay furry. He made his boyfriend’s fursona into a global twitch emote which pissed a lot of people off because it is considered inappropriate for twitch (the created emote for the fursona is also underage btw).
He is also very arrogant, disrespectful, and egotistical.

Anyway, speedrunner Duke_Bilgewater made a comment/joke to Horror that said:
“Hey Horror, what’s the easiest way into your pants so I can get a global emote too?”

Horror proceeded to IP ban him from Twitch.

This set off a chain of reactions that resulted in a lot of streamers and viewers preaching “Ban Horror”

Cyepher (maybe spelled wrong) also got ALL of his emotes banned simply the weren’t considered “appropriate” even though they are 100x more appropriate than Horror’s.

As a result, popular streamers Werster and Peaches also got banned for supporting the “Ban Horror” campaign. (Peaches is IP banned, Werster appears to be IP banned as well, but there is no confirmation on the latter).

Peaches created controversy by naming his stream “Using my keyboard to remove Horror” and it was changed to “Using my keyboard to remove” by Twitch staff member Jason. Jason threatened to remove Peaches if he changed it back. Peaches changed the stream title to “Using my keyboard to remove Horrific zombies” and was later banned after his stream ended.

Now, everyone is becoming super pissed at Twitch and the blatant disrespect and unprofessionalism of Horror and his rampant banning. Also, Twitch staff member Jason has also that he sees no issue with Horror’s actions and will not remove him from Twitch.

And just to clarify, nobody, including myself, is hating on Horror for being gay or for being a furry. He can live any lifestyle he chooses and that is of no concern to me or any of us. What we are pissed at is his behavior. The way he disrespects viewers and abuses his power is what is pissing off all of us.

So far, that’s the story.

This links to an image that shows some of Horror’s behavior and some of the story in picture form.

Thanks, that does clear up a lot of confusion.

Neither side looks all that perfect, IMHO. Lack of communication from one side, a few streamers encouraging their horde of unthinking fanboys to hate on someone on the other.

Can't we all just get along?

That first sentence already tells me that it wont be an unbiased assessment of the situation.
Cyghfers emotes were removed because someone put a takedown request on them ( which was justified because there were copyrighted characters used iirc) and not because they were inappropiate. They have every right to cover their asses from potential lawsuits.

And asking to have a twitch employee fired isnt really the smartest idea these guys ever had. And since this has now lead to all this bullshit I wouldnt be surprised if its upheld

While I do agree that having copyrighted emotes isnt a good thing , and if a takedown request was made and it stopped there , nobody would give a fuck....I think the main objection is Horror's behavior , and twitch's attitude.

I think this shit storm will turn into something exciting to follow , it's been a while since we had a good pitch fork rally.
