Here's a pretty cool Doom mod that I would like to share.
This mod is called Mega Man 8 bit Deathmatch (MM8BDM for short), and runs off of the Skulltag source port. This mod’s also pretty well built so that you don’t need Doom to run this game.
Mega Man 8 bit Deathmatch's aim is to emulate and attempt to transition all the classic Mega Man games into a First Person Shooter. Other Mega Man game elements (like Mega Man X, ZX, Battle Network, etc.) will not be considered to be added in. However, because Doom is very “modable”, anyone can create anything they desire. There are many popular mods that are played, but I'll talk about basics first, then I'll touch on the popular mods.

Single Player
Mega Man 8 bit Deathmatch starts out after the events of Mega Man 6 (Mega Man 7 was added in later). Mr. X after being freed holds a tournament for all robots to see who would be the next greatest robot. A rule is that all participating robots must configure themselves to Mega Man's schematics. Dr. Wily then interrupts and announces that he’ll join as well with his robots. Dr. Light, worried, reluctantly decides to sends out his own robots and the player (not Mega Man) to join to keep Wily in check.
Mega Man 8 bit Deathmatch features that you can play as your favorite Robot Master from Mega Man 1 through Mega Man 6 (Mega Man 7 was added in later). However, whichever Robot Master you pick will not affect the game play because it is just a skin. There is a mod where the Robot Master you pick does affect game play, but I’ll talk about that later. In the Single Player, your goal is to defeat all your opponents in a series of Deathmatch games for every chapter and face off a boss enemy. After the boss is defeated, the player will be able to access chapters and their progress will be saved. There will be a few secret bosses along the way, so be wary!
Multiplayer
Multiplayer has 2 main methods of playing, Offline Skirmish or Online. Offline Skirmish is where you can customize you own games with limits and opponents (bots) to your likings. Online is where players join servers and play whatever mode the server is currently hosting. Any server and Offline Skirmish both have a maximum limit of 32 players or less depending on the host’s settings. I’ll give a quick review of all the working modes.
-Deathmatch
Deathmatch is where every player is for themselves. Your only goal is to kill anyone and reach the current frag limit. First on to do so is the victor.
-Team Deathmatch
What it says on the tin. Never win in Deathmatch, yet always scoring high? Team Deathmatch is where every frag counts towards the team score, and every frag you gain is valuable as well. There can be up to 2 to 4 teams playing at once.
-Last Man Standing
Every player for themselves and you have only one life to live! Eliminate your foes before they eliminate you! Last man alive wins a point, and the map resets until the point limit is reached. Every player will be given the same set of random weapons, and there are no pickups on the map. Use your weapons wisely! Multiple lives can be allowed if the server permits it.
-Team Last Man Standing
Survive and conquer with your team! No player is an island this case, and teamwork is important to pull a victory in this mode.
-Capture the Flag
Just like with other Capture the Flag classics, grab your foe’s flag and return to base to score a point until the point limit is reached. You cannot score a point if your team’s flag is taken by the other team or not in its spawn point. You or your team must retrieve the flag in order to capture the enemy flag.
-One Flag Capture the Flag
Think of this as soccer (or to some, football). In the middle of a map, there will spawn a white flag where you must take it to your opponent’s base and to their flag to score a point. Neither team’s flag will be able to move in this mode, so don’t let that white flag touch your flag!
-Possession
Find and grab a circuit board lying around the map and run for your life! Hold the board until the hold time is up for a point and repeat the process until someone reaches the point limit. Although a very fun mode to play, there are a fair share of problems within this mode, and because of that it sadly does not see the light of day much in servers.
-Team Possession
Team Possession is the “better brother” in the Possession department. As the non-team Possession might imply that working by yourself will be hard due to that you will be chased by everyone else that happens to be in the server. Now with at least a teammate to work with, gaining points towards the team to victory will be a lot easier! However, Team Possession still inherits some of Possession’s old problems.
Popular Mods
Because of Doom’s modable nature, there are many fun mods that are either expansions of the base game modes, another way to play things, or a completely method of play.
Robozena
Robozena is a deadly disease that only infects other robots and turns them berserk and makes them go and infect others as well! Survive and fight off the infection, lest you become infect! Robozena is a modification of Last Man Standing, and it’s a “zombie” mode. Everyone will start out with a randomly select set of weapons with 3 Weapon Energy Tanks. One player will be randomly chosen as the alpha zombie, and the alpha will set off to infect other players. Survivors can not kill each other via weapons, and their goal is to stall out the zombie’s timer and/or kill them. Once a survivor is infected, they stay infected until the end of the round. Round ends when either when all survivors die, become all zombies, or all zombies die.
The original Robozena is rarely seen nowadays due to imbalances and some stability problems that might crash users. However, thanks to the efforts of some modders, they have improved the old version and added new elements of gameplay as well. It is now called “Rage Robozena” now.

Player Classes
Want to play as your favorite boss from any of the classic Mega Man games? With this mod, every player can pick their favorite class and play any other mode they want, as this mod is not a modification of a game mode. During production of the classes mod, there was a massive conflict of interest of 2 notable modders and therefore split the project into 2 paths. Each mod shares the namesake of the founder of that mod. The older version that has been around since the beginning of the classes mod is created by Yellow Devil, and the newer version that split from Yellow Devil’s project is lead by King Yamato. Although Yellow Devil and Kind Yamato classes are very popular to play with, there are also several other classes mod as well that I did not list here. Classes mods can not be used at the same time, due to compataibilty problems between each other.

Bot Apocalypse
Bot Apocalypse is a modification of Team Last Man Standing, and this mod is made by none other than myself! In Bot Apocalypse, all but one human player are in the blue team, while the red team is filled with about twice as much bots as there humans, and the lone human in the red is given extra as the “leader” of the bots. Though sounds unfair, this popular and difficult mode is played quite often. Bots, although has near perfect aim, however they aren’t too smart though. The AI’s flaw is more or less the main saving grace for the blue team. Teamwork in general is the best way to brave through the mode though.

Although those 3 mods explained above are the most popular mods, there are many more work in progress project. There’s a topic that includes a good deal of mods and map packs. Map packs are custom built maps by users and they can typically plugged into any mode and mod, unless the map pack contains custom weapons.
Lastly, there’s tool that’s extremely useful for going online called Doomseeker. The link below will have information about Doomseeker and how to use it. Generally, the best place to look up information and ask questions is at cutstuff.net.
