MMOs always have huge worlds with tons of stuff to do, but the combat is so integral to the game it's MUCH MORE OF A PROBLEM when it sucks. I have never really understood the hate for elder scrolls combat. I guess me and my bro are weird as we find the combat fun lol xD. That's one of our favorite things is how the combat is. Totally agree. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I was enjoying the combat. What exactly about spamming 1-4 and left/right clicking tickled your fancy? I'm genuinely curious. Also please be advised that this comment is not a fair reflection of the combat system by any stretch. Just based off of public domain info, it is missing the key aspects of aiming attacks, reactive and proactive decision-making, planning and adjusting the action bar for different situations, and being able to take difficult opponents / come out victorious with adds by doing all of this correctly instead of being overwhelmed by the math of automatic, non-preventable damage as happens in most other MMOs.
Well you mentioned DaoC so I'm sold. When is it coming out?

Rumored for spring 2014. Hib / Guin, how 'bout you?
Also, have you seen this?
Back to ESO, I did not realize until now that the faction that you end up in is exclusively and irrevocably determined by your choice of race. Ebonheart Pact seems to be by far the most popular (a la Albion) due to it having both Nords (Skyrim) and Dark Elves (the awesome Morrowind), therefore we can presume that it will be the least attractive to PvP players. Daggerfall Covenant will likely be the second-most populated (2 human races, orcs). This suggests to me that the lolelves and kitties of Aldmeri Dominion will be the most likely to be able to do group vs zerg PvP / get the most out of PvP in general due to scaling of rewards. Dangit, I guess I'll get my ball of string...

Well what exactly tickles your fancy spamming 1-0 hotkeys all the time? I mean not saying the combat is best thing ever, but I don't see how it's any worse then other mmo's (imo better).

I found going first person instead of third person changed it immensely for the better.

The combat is very similar to diablo with customization and other things. But the combat is subpar and you can tell this is an mmo designed for a console first in every design sense just like skyrim. Similar to Diablo!?!?!??? First non-beta-participant troll confirmed. Lol, tell me whats different then since apparently "i wasn't in the beta" even though I have a forum account that is only given to beta testers. You have abilities, you can only have 5 equiped plus using the mouse for block/basic attack, you can also "customize" spells for your own tastes much like diablo runes. Pretty much like diablo, except you could bind skills to your mouse in that, unlike this game. Its okay bro, you're clearly the one who hasn't played it.
How can you refer to diablo 3 by only saying diablo? Diablo 2, ok, though it's still highly confusing. But diablo 3 that could barely be counted as a part of the diablo series, if at all....sigh I hope the Skillsystem is not like D3 because that would be utterly painful.

GW2 told you DaoC kind of RvR. Warhammer as well. I found GW2's WvW to be fun (I didn't play DaoC) but I heard many voices of DaoC players that it wasn't nearly as good as DaoC and has so many problems. In presentations TESO's RvR sounds extremly similar to GW2's. So I would recommend you to be skeptical. Camelot Unchained could become good. Saw the kickstarter campaign when it was running and will hold an eye on that one.

Did the beta start recently?
Haven't been invited to a beta since Swtor

There wasn't much about this weekend playing the beta that I actually liked. The game is obviously rough and in dire need of polish but even despite that I couldn't shake the feeling the entire time I was playing it that I was just playing a watered down Elder Scrolls game that just happened to have other people logged in.
I love Elder Scrolls games and I've been playing WoW regularly for 9 years now. This game tries to find a balance between the two of them and in my opinion it just wasn't working for me. It's too unstructured to be an MMO while also lacking a lot of the finer details that makes the experience of an Elder Scrolls title.
Maybe future beta tests especially ones incorporating the PvP and crafting can change my mind, but this weekend did not show a lot of promise for me.
The game looks great on a decent machine and the world of Tamriel is rich with lore to explore but that's about where my enthusiasm for the game ends. Everything else about it either felt underwhelming, disappointing or just plain bad.
And it sucks because I really WANTED to like it while I was playing it, I really did. I just didn't have any fun.
Pretty much 100% this. The game is alright, but it certainly isn't an MMO by any stretch of the word. It feels basically like a single player that other players annoyingly run around and take mobs.

It's worse because the animations are awful? I mean I get that its still probably way before release but everything about it is super clunky and doesn't flow at all.

So like SWTor? That's dissapointing.

Hey, any other testers been able to make their way into the beta forums? I got a username and login with the original beta test invite, but for some reason have not been able to receive the mandatory "administrator has required password reset" e-mail. This has been happening since September.
|
Congratulations! You've been selected to join a hand-picked group of testers that we've identified as particularly helpful—the Psijic Order. First and foremost, please do not share any information about this group with non-members or the public.
As a member of the Psijic Order, you'll have access to a special server with extended availability where you'll test content before it is released to other testing groups. You may encounter more bugs on this server, but we know you're a great candidate to help us root out issues and provide early feedback on new systems.
A "friend" got this message. Well its funny because I... he only participated in 1 StressTest for like 3hours. I hope they get their shit together and improve the Game.

Yea, the controls did feel like they were designed for consoles. I think the issues can be sorted out though. It has got potential.
That article has some funky assumptions too, the guy says the subscription model will go away completely soon - I doubt it. He also seems to think MMO is a dying genre and not just going through a correction after the huge spike in players that was WoW. Analysts at Forbes probably think they can read the tea leaves when they start seeing trends in an industry.

The long and very heavy handed NDA shows everything you need to know. They dont want the public to know how bad this game actually is. Its going to fail and fail hard im sure.

I am not 100% sure. I think playing under PC will still create significant advantages over console, because the mouse is far more responsive and accurate as a pointing device, and I bet this game does not use target-locking like WoW. This will create a lot of problems because:
If you play with console, you will be automatically handicapped for PvP, which sucks.
If you play with console, you will be automatically handicapped for PvE, too. Whether or not this directly translates into "sucks" depends on how hard PvE is; if PvE is made easy to cater the console players, the whole game will suck; otherwise, it sucks for you to play with console.

I think they just started beta. Got a Key, UK.

I got a key too but thing mentioned under bothers me. It looks like a stress test only.

I received my invite to the next beta session yesterday, and after the client download and leading up to the eventual downloading of the game I became fearful of how big the installation might be for such a big MMO. My fears were met with pure revelation, as I saw the download size appearing at the bottom left of the client's window: 21.6 GB! That is too large for my shitty bandwidth to even finish before the session ENDS on Sunday. FML.
