Not gonna get in to details on this forum though, since it seems like people actually care about NDA here (which is silly, there's screenshots and vids out already, since some of people don't care about being banned at all).

I honestly like this game so far, and this coming form someone who hates MMO's. I was pleasantly surprised. Its more like Skyrim than I could have imagined.

The problem with Skyrim was that it was a huge world with tons of stuff to do, but had shitty combat.
MMOs always have huge worlds with tons of stuff to do, but the combat is so integral to the game it's MUCH MORE OF A PROBLEM when it sucks.

I have never really understood the hate for elder scrolls combat. I guess me and my bro are weird as we find the combat fun lol xD. That's one of our favorite things is how the combat is.

I got a beta invite, but I forgot all my account information. Apparently when I registered for beta, I used a different name >.>

Totally agree. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I was enjoying the combat.

Go play Kingdoms of Amalur or even Neverwinter for examples of 3rd person ARPG combat that actually flows. Neither one is amazing, but a lot better than "Click or click and hold".

I'm going to be honest, and I'm going to be vague because of the non-disclosure agreement.
There wasn't much about this weekend playing the beta that I actually liked. The game is obviously rough and in dire need of polish but even despite that I couldn't shake the feeling the entire time I was playing it that I was just playing a watered down Elder Scrolls game that just happened to have other people logged in.
I love Elder Scrolls games and I've been playing WoW regularly for 9 years now. This game tries to find a balance between the two of them and in my opinion it just wasn't working for me. It's too unstructured to be an MMO while also lacking a lot of the finer details that makes the experience of an Elder Scrolls title.
Maybe future beta tests especially ones incorporating the PvP and crafting can change my mind, but this weekend did not show a lot of promise for me.
The game looks great on a decent machine and the world of Tamriel is rich with lore to explore but that's about where my enthusiasm for the game ends. Everything else about it either felt underwhelming, disappointing or just plain bad.
And it sucks because I really WANTED to like it while I was playing it, I really did. I just didn't have any fun.

I gotta say, every time I've tried to take up Skyrim again I'm always left with the same feeling: it feels fucking lonely. Largely empty mountains and valleys, the random stranger you meet is usually trying to kill you, and the NPC's you do know are useless automaton's who stand around and repeat the same phrases over and over. I think multiplayer is actually a great idea. And if you aren't into it, don't join it?

What exactly about spamming 1-4 and left/right clicking tickled your fancy? I'm genuinely curious.

Yeah the combat isn't really deep not that skyrim had deep combat either.

Bethesda games/game engines suffer from some terrible animations. The game looks great but it moves like crap. I can tell if an MMO is going to be successful just on run animations alone, because smooth game play trumps all. This game does not have it.

Wow, all sorts of crazy whup-ass being unleashed on the NDA in this thread. Poor, poor NDA, after all signing a contract THREE TIMES to not disclose info and then proceeding to take a big dump on your own word and post a lot of negative shit about an unfinished product that you got to play for free is how the cool kids roll.
For newcomers to the thread who are not in beta and are looking to get information / gauge excitement on this game, I will say that you should be very excited, particularly if you enjoy the deep immersion / lore of the TES universe, fluid and interactive combat and character role design, many innovations on typical MMORPG features, and the concept of a DAoC-based PvP system complete with three sides, sieges, guild keeps, leaderboards, etc. That's all I'm going to say for now, more to come when NDA is lifted.

Also please be advised that this comment is not a fair reflection of the combat system by any stretch. Just based off of public domain info, it is missing the key aspects of aiming attacks, reactive and proactive decision-making, planning and adjusting the action bar for different situations, and being able to take difficult opponents / come out victorious with adds by doing all of this correctly instead of being overwhelmed by the math of automatic, non-preventable damage as happens in most other MMOs.

Very little is actually breaching the NDA, it's just confirming the press footage that's already out there.
There's also a difference between unfinished (I saw a lot of things I knew would get better) and the absolute core gameplay (that they can't possibly change in time) sucking.

@maxyin It 100% is a reflection of combat. The combat is very similar to diablo with customization and other things. But the combat is subpar and you can tell this is an mmo designed for a console first in every design sense just like skyrim.

I almost couldn't guess what my next quest line would involve, would it be another draugr dungeon!? Oh, yeah, it's the hundreth draugr dungeon, hope you're still enjoying them. Skyrim was a huge world but a lot of it wasn't memorable and the questlines were dull and easily ruined any immersion a person might've had. Hey you don't have any actual talent for magic but hey become the leader of the mage college anyway. I had no expectations for this(Elder scrolls: Online) game and yet i'm still disappointed. Killed and butchered the lore, combat still looks incredibly clunky.

Lol, tell me whats different then since apparently "i wasn't in the beta" even though I have a forum account that is only given to beta testers.
You have abilities, you can only have 5 equiped plus using the mouse for block/basic attack, you can also "customize" spells for your own tastes much like diablo runes. Pretty much like diablo, except you could bind skills to your mouse in that, unlike this game. Its okay bro, you're clearly the one who hasn't played it.
