Damn I haven't created a topic in ages.

I've been trying to get back into UFC and MMA in general again lately. One thing that has been on my mind is the UFC hall of fame. There's a lot of top fighters nearing the end of their careers; Dan Henderson, Rampage, BJ Penn, hell even Anderson Silva is what, 38 now?

My first question is Stephan Bonnar. Does he make the UFC HOF? I mean he and Forrest Griffin is credited for basically putting the UFC and MMA on the map for their all out war at the end of the Ultimate Fighter Season 1. Other then that fight, Bonnar really hasn't fought, let alone beat anyone that is worth talking about (Keith Jardine?)

Is he a HOFer regardless?

My second question is, what is the criteria for hall of fame?

We already know guys like St.Pierre and Anderson Silva are sure fire HOFers.

What about Kenny Florian? Or maybe Josh Koscheck? If they retired right now would they be HOFers? There's so many others who have impressive UFC records, but did not capture a title. I feel like there is going to be a point where the UFC has to lay some standards down, or figure out a system, because a lot of great fighters are nearing the end.

My criteria would be:

a) titles
b) length of reign(s)
c) knockouts/submissions/fight of the night
d) overall record and years competiting at the highest level (top ten contenders at weight division-- which era were they apart of?)
e) influence on the sport
f) ability to sell fights

I'm not a really big fan when it comes to HoF inductions personally, but I would put a lot of weight into it.

KFlo and Koscheck are a possibility. Depends on how many fighters the promotion wants to put in each year/they could extend it for all we know.

Bonnar had a great fight with Griffin and has been doing the grunt work of the business for quite some time. I don't think he's HoF worthy though.

That's not a bad criteria setup.

I think maybe they should have "honorable mentions" for guys like Bonnar

Not even Silva or St.Pierre? What do you think they need to accomplish to be HoF worthy?

if the UFC HOF is strictly based on their UFC accolades, I don't see anyone really belonging in the HOF except Anderson and GSP right now. An MMA HOF would be a completely different matter. Hendo belongs in one for sure for having two Pride titles simultaneously, but in the UFC he's done nothing but lose title fights, KO Bisping, and his awesome fight with Shogun. Shogun for his UFC LHW title and Pride MW GP champ could be an MMA HOFer but if you strictly look at his UFC career it's not spectacular.

Other guys who simply have had long careers don't belong. They're gatekeepers and journeymen.
