F1 was so great like 3-5years ago. I remember 2 years where the Championship got deceided in the last race in Sao Paulo. The year Kimi won the Title, because Hamilton failed was one of the best moments in F1 History.
I'll have to disagree with you on this one. This year has been very competetive. Not only for the first part of the year which was mentioned before, but we have two very hot drivers coming up in Perez and Kobayashi. It helps to break the field into tiers, with each tier having certain goals. Once you do that, I am sure you will begin to see how strongly competetive this season has been.

Apparently the entire team afterwards went partying ALL night in Australia and got smashed! xD

:'D I'm a little bit early, but I'm hyped that in less than a month, I'll be in Austin watching F1.
I went to Montreal last year and had a blast. Hoping to do the same in Austin! Disappointed that Mclaren is falling short at the end of the year though. Oh well.

oh man, you were at montreal 2011? Possibly the best race of the entire season. Really envious

Its a shame Alonso will miss out on this years title, he deserves it. Great job again today. His comments about racing Adrian Newey for the title amused me too Early mind games for 2014?

Go Vettel! 13 points is not much but i believe in you!

Im tired of F1. All the years Alonso is the best pilot, and all the years he loose because RedBull better cars.

the first half of the season was good, now we are getting into all these "modern" tilke designed tracks and its just vettel, vettel, vettel. not to mention these modern tracks are so fucking boring to watch. i havent watched since suzuka.
hermann tilke is the man who ruined racing.

We need to reduce aerodynamic grip. A slide these days is a mistake whereas a slide in the 1980s and 1990s was a side-effect of fast driving.

not to mention they are putting tarmac run offs instead of gravel. you make that mistake ... no problem, just drive back onto the track.

I was also there and it was simply amazing. We sat in our seats for 3.5 hours of it just absolutely pouring rain. Everyone was drenched. A group of people in our section were all huddled together using makeshift tent of umbrellas to keep warm. Every time the safety car or a crew vehicle went by on the track there was a huge cheer from the crowd. It was hilarious. When the race was finally on it was sad to see the stands not nearly as full as they had been earlier. Turn 1 and 2 Grandstands are normally packed but they were maybe 2/3 full at best. The race was perfect though. With every lap you could see Button slowly getting closer and closer. The excitement from the crowd was amazing. Every time button came around there was a cheer from the crowd which got louder and louder with each lap. When Vettel made the mistake and Button got by on the last lap it was insane. The crowd went absolutely nuts. I've been to the race in Montreal 7 times now and the Indy race in Toronto 14 Times with 2 Indy races in Montreal as well and this race was by far my favorite racing experience thus far.
Another year when I arrived at my hotel, I got out of the car grabbed my luggage and turned around and saw Heikki Kovalainen talking to a few of his crew members who were staying in the Hotel. Not to disturb him too much I just said Hi and Good luck in the race and we shook hands and continued on with our night. Later that weekend I came off the elevator to head out for dinner and I saw this man dressed in casual street clothes standing in the lobby waiting for someone. It was Rubens Barrichello, waiting for a few of his crew members as well. We had a similar exchange and went on our ways. It was one of Ruben's best races of the year, so I claim that it was my good luck which led to the result. LOL
Last year we were leaving the Hotel and there was a woman who got on the elevator with us. She asked in a British accent if we were going to the race (We were in full McLaren gear, so it was more of a conversation starter). We responded with "yes" and she asked if she could tag along to make sure she took the right subway stops to get there. So we walked and talked with this woman, who mentioned that she gets to go to a few races a year, and she also mentioned that Red Bull flew her out here for the race. Not to pry we continued talking and found out she is the Wife of Vettel's Lead Mechanic. So as we were talking with this woman and just exchanging Formula One stories, (hers were a lot better than ours) we were just amazed as she repeatedly name dropped. Not that she was bragging, just that it was her life, and that's just how it is. She talked about going shopping with Heikki and his Wife and Martin Whitmarsh's wife the night before. And a night out at a club with Vettel. She spoke very highly of Vettel and said he is a really nice guy, but hes still just a kid who wants to party all the time. It was just amazing.
For anyone reading this thread, if you haven't been to a race I highly recommend going. It is amazing the atmosphere of the race weekend. I can't guarantee the experiences I've had but I can guarantee that every race is a fun experience. Save up, travel if you have to, but definitely go and see a race. Some of the races are a lot cheaper than others, I'm lucky with Canada being one of the cheapest, but find a way. you won't regret it.

The problem is tarmac runoffs are a hell of a lot safer. Formula One needs to have the tarmac runoffs to continue making the sport safer and safer, but there is no added punishment for going off track. I've always felt the curbing should be bigger. Think Canada, you take too much curb and you are into the wall of champions. India last year Massa took too much curb on 2 seperate occasions and broke his suspension both times. so what did they do? They reduced the curb, now we see drivers making mistakes and they only lose out a few tenths. The tyres don't even get that dirty because so many drivers are doing it. I understand that the curbing needs to be kept within reason (Singapore chicane launching cars, etc.) but something has to be done to slow the cars down for going wide. I think the final turn in India has it right. Half the curb is typical curbing, but the outer half is a lot bigger. It doesn't slow the cars down that much, but if you had that type of curbing on the exit of every corner, you would have a lot less drivers putting nearly 4 tyres off the circuit on exit. Just my 2 cents.

It was pretty great, however, the like 3 hour rain delay was not. A lot of people were leaving and we were considering bouncing too -- but we stuck it out. :D
Some of my pics: (noob photography skills) + Show Spoiler +
Planning on going back to Montreal for '13. :D
Hopefully I can get some good shots at Austin. Bought a new lens and everything @@!!

Amazing pole lap from Hamilton Vettel just stopped on the inlap, smells like a +10 pos grid penalty
|
It was a great lap, Jenson cant get anywhere near him this weekend. A 10 place grid penalty would be good for the championship Zere Good for the race tomorrow also. I always worry about Maldonado too being around championship contenders.

Vettel indeed ran out of fuel, moved to P24. Now we're talking world championship I fear for Alonso, tho. If he makes up his obligatory 2 positions at the start then he is in the Crashtor-zone
Edit: It wouldn't be a bad idea to start from the pit lane and change the engine now without taking a 10 place grid drop (he's using his 8th since india)
|
Huge mistake by Red Bull. Nice to see the stewards be consistent with the ruling from last year with Hamilton, but the ruling in both cases was stupidly harsh. Disqualify the last lap or Q3 entirely, but having the pilot start last is ridiculous.

Damn was nearly going to bet on Lewis to with this Grand Prix >.< was like 10s at thursuday/friday >.<
He be slashed right down now, i see him winning this comfertably if he has the start he needs and doesn't get taken out. Alonso 6th and Vettel at the back should be a comfertable race... (should be ^_^)

Vettel's gearbox changed, +5 grid penalty does nothing. Gearbox ratios changed as well, presumably for easier overtaking during the race, forces start from pitlane. No word on the engine yet, but they'd be stupid not to change it.
|
Seriously they should not be allowed to change the Ratios of the gearbox, that needs to be sorted out for next year.
|
I think it is fine to change gearbox and change ratio, anyone can do it. HRT could have one race gearboxes
