Getting Started:
+ Show Spoiler +
Even for a non Wow player the Tcg is a great game for new players in card gaming, don't be fooled into thinking it is just a game for squeezing money out of Wow fans, it may of been when UDE acquired the original rights for it, but it has grown far bigger.
Wow Tcg Flash Tutorial
http://upperdeck-wowtcd.2a-archive.com/
Great Tutorial, although outdated, the rules all still apply, although the majority of people nowadays use a different setup, unsure if they played it the way the tutorial shows it even then, as you can change up the arrangement as long as it is recognizable to the other player.
On Core Format:
Core format is where only the last two blocks are allowed, blocks are 3 sets and booster packs come from a particular set, any additional cards released are considered part of the block that they released during the time of.
Also, Matches in core are 1 round rather than Bo3
Pro's of Core Format
-Card Pool is Limited so combos aren't too overpowered
-Card cost of older blocks is lowered so classic format players can get cards cheaper
-Stagnent Cards are removed from play
Cons
-Your Card become unusable in core after 18 months years(about 9 months is the time for a full block)
-Bo1 makes games seem less skill based
-Any powerful card in the current blocks is raised in price
Good news is that casually, core is not an issue as most casual communities play classic unless they all have core capable decks, core is generally considered better due to better card interactions. We should be grateful that now our classic cards are cheaper due to being outdated in tournaments. Weldon Barov use to be 50$ - 60$ and now that he's outdated, 10$ to 18$ and he's an extremely rare card.
The most important thing for new players to understand about core is that it doesn't affect casual play and to always buy from the latest sets so your cards are higher value.
Class Starter Decks
These are really great for new players, they include a full 60 (being the minimum for constructed play) card deck with good abilities, while not competitive, they give a great feel for the game and are cheap for what you get, aim for the newest class starters to get even more value.
If you want to start playing Wow Tcg, go buy one or two of these and play with a friend, while not competitive, they aren't weak either, they can be easily modified for more competitive play as they include many of the cards competitive decks use, and if I remember correctly, a chance for a good class rare.
Loot Cards
In almost every product, there is a chance for a loot card, an extremely rare card that gives a code for a Wow character to use and gain a unique to the tcg item/mount/pet, these come in three rarities, common loot rare loot and epic loot, while common loot as the name suggests is common it generally goes for 1$ to 6$, rare loot goe for from 6$ to 50$, and Epic goes anywhere from 60$ to 600$(Spectral Tiger)
All loot cards resemble one of the games normal cards, but have a scratch off box and the legendary card coloring's, even if you aren't a wow player you can sell these for a good price, if you play, then you can have the coolest vanity items in your guild.
Rarity
Cards are organized by rarity based on the color of their unique number ID at the bottom, this tells their set and which card in it they are, commons are white, 13 in a booster, uncommon is green with 4 per pack, rares are blue with one per pack, and epics are purple and sometimes replace a packs rare, packs also have 1 hero, and 1 material card for crafting into a card of your choice upon collection of the right materials. A grand total of 20 cards per pack with 19 playable
Brief Historical Note:
UDE used to produce the Wow Tcg, now it is managed by Cryptozoic, they took over right after the scourgewar set

Offering 1 super strong deck to be played against 3 regular for a 4 player game, or in assault on icecrown citadel, offering all the decks for you(great for new players with not enough decks or not strong enough decks)
Then Dungeons offering 3 players against an automated dungeon boss(great for newer players too as it is toned down by far from others)
