Are we gonna be consolidating the fighting game threads to here or is this so people know the major tournament schedule?
I think we can leave game threads, but its easier to have a thread for tournaments since they are multiple games so you dont have to offtopic in the sf4 thread or jump around to multiple threads.
Looking forward to see cellphone action this weekend with wolfkrone, fchamp and ricky ortiz all signed up for both competitions. http://lgsf4hd.com/usa/sub_02_eng_hd02.html
Maybe for the streams section you can include a schedule as well. I only know about NorCal streams but FKO is every Friday for FGs, IPW is bimonthly Sat=MvC3/AE Sun=KOF, SRKLive will have KOF/AE/MvC3 every week on Thursdays.
hello! ive asked this before but i still like watching jwong etc play so i try again :D im looking for a good ,easy to play fighting game ; what does that mean? (for the following keep in mind : im really bad and i dont want to be the best player in the world :D)
no marvel vs capcom3 - i tried that out and its impossible for me to perform 3 different combos for 3 different characters at that kind of speed :S ;
mortal kombat was quite good for me ! i was able to have like a 40% midscreen and corner no meter combos for the characters i played (not sub -zero tho :S) but then i felt that i got hardcountert so often by people not really better than me with my ermac :s (which was a perfect character as long as i could keep my distance and didnt run into #3 EU kung lao who beat the shit out of me :S)
so the question im asking - is there any "kind of slow" game that doesnt focus all to much on perfect execution for me to play on ps3? :D
pm me if u like ! dont want to spam your thread! :D ty in advance!
Well maybe the new UFC Undisputed 3 that is coming in 1 week. Its slow but its VERY technical and real. The right kick or punch will knock you straight out, so defense is something you have to think about all the time as well as takedowns, ground game and grappling. I will be buying that for sure.

I'd wait for SFxTekken to come out (won't be long now, although we don't actually know yet whether the game is going to be good or not), or try Soul Caliber V (if you are interested a 3D fighter)

He wanted to easy to play and slow(er) with not-retarded execution.
Thats SF4 man. Not every character, but the bulk of them can be played reasonably well at low execution and speed. Theres others, but thats the best fit that has a scene to it.
SCV has fast movement, but maybe that would work. Different kinda game entirely compared to marvel and mk though. No hurt in suggesting it.

SF4 isn't really easy to play at all from the perspective of a new player. The game's link system makes it hard and unintuitive to do combos, and only a small handful of the cast can be regarded as low execution. In addition, the game is relatively old so everybody else playing it is likely to be far more experienced. I'd introduce SF4 as a game to a player who wants to take fighting games seriously not someone who wants a game that is easy to play.
To be honest, I'm only excited for SkullGirls nowadays. I can't wait to get it . I'm waiting for the PC release.

Is it actually coming out for PC?
To each their own. I think its easier to understand how to improve to a decent level faster in SF than SoulCal. Moves are slow in terms of fighting games, You can do decent damage without links with some characters, You get ultra for getting hit, shortcut inputs.... there's a lot to it to make it easy friendly. But I get your point. I did Pm the original poster with a list of the easy characters and a resource to learn.
Its a hell of a lot easier to get into than 3SO, Alpha3, or any anime game... thats for sure XD
I'm gonna be at battle for the south, though I wouldn't call it a major, just a regional tourney. We were hoping to get it bigger getting spooky to stream etc, then winter brawl changed their date to the same weekend and the east coast loyalties won out (understandably so). It's Mardi Gras weekend down here though, so it's hard to be salty about anything.
I'd wear my CJ shirt or something to be noticeable if I ended up on stream... but I don't think TLers nowadays would even recognize that =[

I don't think SF4 is any more difficult than any other streetfighter game, but I think that people have a lot higher expectations of what they want to be able to do because of all these streams of top players. There is no doubt that somebody who is good will murder a noob in SF4 though, whilst some other game might be easier for button mashers to prosper online. It's pretty much why I love streetfighter.

don't know where you're getting sf4 as the hardest game you've played unless you haven't touched KoF13 because that game has the highest execution bar out of the currently 5(?) top fighting games.

Yeah he is still running Rufus in SF4. For Marvel he is usually running iron fist on point w/ Wolvie and Akuma. But for today he ran wolvie point w/ storm and akuma because Chris G lammed out his iron fist in winners.
I'm not really familiar with fighting games, but have been watching them more and more. All I have to say is that Justin Wong is a beast. So fun watching him today.

He didnt counter pick Chris G, it was literally impossible to run ironfist against Chris G's team so he switched to a team with more air mobility.

lol everyone hating on the ONE zoning character in that game that actually has to work 3x harder than other characters. I never knew the fanservice TnA character could get so much fury until I read stream chat during chris g matches
East coast always tries to plays lame in every game. I don't know why people are surprised I am a fan of lame play that being said especially in UMvC3.
WB6 and WGC were awesome this weekend though. Looking forward to Final Round 15 in two weeks time.

difficulty =/= entertaining, i'm not hating the player, i'm hating on the character's entertainment value. you can't deny morrigan is simply lame to watch.

I actually like watching her. The lame characters to me are the doom, wesker, phoenix, zero, wolverine, etc, hella boring to watch such braindead rushdown. But I know from stream chats most people disagree with me =[
Unrelated: who all from TL is going to final round? I'm gonna be there all weekend ofc, hoping to make top 8 in kof
unfortunately i couldnt find any reviews. the buttons look like decent sanwa fakes and easy modable. the stick is 8-way, which is quite extraordinary for a stick under 100 euros.

what do you guys think?
That looks like a Niking stick. Expect sloppy wiring but otherwise relative ease in swapping for legit parts.
I always get kinda sad watching Big Two. I love that UMVC3 has made zoning/keepaway viable, it's just sad to see everyone die to it. Don't get me wrong, it IS player skill, Chris G is much better than the rest of the East Coast in Marvel and would win with whatever (decent) team he picks (i.e. back in Vanilla when he played lolRyu), but I guess it's just sad to see how far ahead the WC is, even as a west coaster. The days of EAST COAST - PHILLY WHERE YOU AT? are long gone, it seems.
Edit: And yeah, Melty Blood is gdlk. However, nothing is as GDLK as the Guilty Gear AC+ for Xbox Arcade announcement. Online AC/hopefully a community bigger than the online #Reload community is wonderful.

That's probably because Melty Blood isn't too huge within the fighting game community so it doesn't really attract many Street Fighter, or Marvel, or BB or etc. players, but then it attracts a bunch of Tsukihime/Type-Moon fans who play it because of the story and the characters but aren't really experienced in fighting games. For example, I'm generally pretty terrible at 2d fighters but I dabble in MB because fuck yeah, I can play as Hisui.

Zoning characters were always hated. O.sagat anyone. Even back in the day there were people calling john choi lame cause 'all he does is fireballs all day'.
I get that people want to see flashiness. But lately lot of new bloods are really spoiled imo on this field. They really need to sit down chain themselves up and play fundamentals till their eyes bleed. Or watch live chess finals this year till the adhd is cured. Then maybe they can appreciate that korean scrub who does fireballs all day.

Pretty easy to ignore for the SF and MvC3 players.
Also NCR is one of the "road to EVO" tournaments, and gives seeding points along with the money. Even MK9/SCV/KOF13 players will probably think hard which one to attend.

James Chen and Gootecks were talking about it, in SF4, vortext characters are all the best, hence why you have to play Seth, Viper, even Akuma Ibuki etc. It's stupid lol

sadly the two events this time are happening at the same time, as far as iv heard from streams justin is not worried at all about the evo points. I feel like iv heard someone on a stream say their not exactly that important all it has to do is with seeding? Besides that scoots has said that justin wants to experience a mlg for himself and hang out with his team so this is his first perfect opportunity to do so as he said recently on inside the game. Plus on the same show the FGC MLG host said justin actual first game he started in was KOF and most people don't know that. I cant wait to see how he does even in MK9 from what i ever saw of his kung lao hes pretty amazing i would hope he takes at least 1 title this weekend.
Oh and to the idea of MLG picking up the Capcom games that will never happen untill Capcom is willing to work with MLG and let them use their licence. All of that hub-bub is all on Capcom's side MLG has done everything they can to work with them, we can only hope in the future with growth and good shows capcom will change their mind.
I don't think Justin has much chances of winning any of those games tbh. He was good in MK9 after the release and in the PDP tournament, but the players who stayed with the game are just so much better than him now. Also he has never been near the top in KOF, players like Bala, Reynald and Romance will beat him comfortably. SCV I don't know much about.

MLG can use Capcom games in the same capacity as any other fighting game tournament organizer. If that's not enough for them, you can't say it's all on Capcom's side.
No one is expecting Justin to win any of them, both he and scoots agree, but a top 8 is doable I think, and I think one 8th place is probably more than 2nd at NCR so there's a decent chance of him winning some moneyz. But I think also one of the reasons he is there is to experience what an MLG is like as its completely different to anything the FGC does, and it will be fun for him.

To me it's separating the prudes from the more laid back people. It could be a nice thing and in the end it's not a big deal. People show fatalities in MK on stream like it's completely normal but a simple logo sets them off the deep end. It could be that joe wears a plain t shirt with a BRZ on the front and that's literally it. No one would even have the slightest idea what it were unless they already knew.

Ahh yes. I am sure Nike is just chomping at the bit to associate themselves with a porn company. Sorry that's not the way the world works. Mainstream sponsors hate controversy. If Brazzers sponsored a NASCAR team all of the other sponsors would immediately pull out. It doesn't have to be Nascar, its true almost anything with mainstream sponsorships. Its great that someone is injecting money into the scene, but there are few sponsors that will drive away other sponsors like a porn site.

NASCAR and FGC are leagues different. Terrible comparison.

Your missing the point though. This could be the start of companies who don't have any association with gaming sponsoring players. I also wouldn't compare the FGC to NASCAR, I would say it's more MMA\UFC seeing as how both communities seem to of had very controversial up bringings. I say bring it on, this has people talking!
So I was watching toryuken, Hoping that this very own Bill307 is the same guy commentating, because I have questions for Skullgirls :D
Honestly, I don't have a ps3, but I've been doing really well just zoning with Peacock/Parasoul forever, and there's something I've noticed about peacock players that maybe you guys could shed more light on (since you may be playing this more often than I do)
1. No one likes the bomb super to control space? 2. I don't really know how the item drop is homing, Maybe i just don't notice it based on the strength of the item drop stuff. 3. Are slow bomb -> teleport to otherside worth it as a setup?
anyway, outside the lack of combos (anyone can suggest for me as well :D) feel free to critique two videos of mine (I'm TXO-Promil kid)
so far, I didn't know back then that you can super after peacock's grab. Any more help? I'm really liking SkullGirls as I come from a very competitive MvC2 background :D
Anyway, about the tournament series. Lots of players looking to train hard for it but also lot of criticism (notably. Why HDR over ST and why HDR instead of UMvC3 just because UMvC3 doesn't have "Street fighter")
What do you mean how the item drop is homing? It's the heavy version that homes as long as you hold it, however if you let go while in blockstun it won't fall until you're out of blockstun.
I don't like the super bomb just because it blocks my own projectiles. I've used it a couple times in goofy situations where someone would die to chip and just stood in it so they couldn't come combo me but... I don't know of any real uses so far lol
watching those videos, I'm sure you've leveled up a good bit in the last few weeks, but random notes on peacock (im ass with parasoul so I wont comment there lol):
When you're doing j.fp to make space, I like to cancel it into airdash back & possibly another j.fp to push back even further. Works well against a lot of characters, though filia can blow up a jump back fp with her iad j.fp, so watch out against her =(
using things like the st.fp gun but not cancelling seems like a waste. put a bomb on the screen or start an item drop. Common thing I do once I have a little space is st.fp + assist (I use double) xx heavy item drop. then throw the lk bomb and save the hk bomb for if they jump is my most basic pattern when I've gotten away fully.
another big thing is just to have a heavy item drop charged as often as possible. at full charge its an overhead, hits wherever, very few things can outrun the homing. it basically makes your zoning trap a ton scarier because you can instantly cover a gap if they break through and confirm it into a super or worse
when you're confirming off qcf + fp guns into super, use 2 shots instead of 3, tends to juggle a lot more consistently that way (3rd hit often pops em up too high)
I wish I had a match of my own to show what I mean but the one tournament I've attended with a stream decided not to stream any skullgirls T_T
If you haven't learned your bnb's yet go do that! If you can play Iron Man, nothing can be too hard for you My basic bnb is:
with parasoul assist you could probably do something like lp, mp, mk, j.lp, j.lk, j.mp adf (pause) j.lp, j.mp, st.lp, st.mp + assist, cr.mk xx heavy item drop, super, item drop hits, super
and for meterless damage, just do lp, mp, hk xx heavy item drop (don't charge it), lp, mk, j.lp, j.rh, air dash j.fp you can do better meterless stuff but I've been lazy on optimizing that one lol
I haven't played since then I've barely played the game since I don't own a console. The bomb does block my projectiles, but I can use it to push people into the corner. Sometimes I even burn my projectile super to push the bomb towards them as well for more pressure.
Lots of things like the j.fp thing, two shots to confirm to super I didn't know as well as the BnB's, I'll take note of that. Thanks! :D I figured about the homing drop as someone told me. I still fnd lp drop a bit useful sometimes.
Going to take this into the lab. I haven't played Ironman (MvC2) in a loooong time, but I'll take your word for it hahaha.
You should update the New Games section in the OP with more detailed info. VF5FS is coming to consoles on the 5th (PS3) and 6th (Xbox) of June, it's going to be available via PSN and XMBL. Priced at $15 with additional paid DLC in form of customization item unlocks.

Bleh...I wish TL had a larger community of fighting gamers. The quality of Shoryuken is just atrocious. Many of the users seem hell bent on not trying to make it a better place, but trying to make it the worse place they can make it.
And my God do they enjoy shooting themselves in the foot.
I thought most of the people distanced themselves from the attitude Aris had. This pretty much sums up much of the community. “The sexual harassment is part of the culture. If you remove that from the fighting game community, it’s not the fighting game community… it doesn’t make sense to have that attitude. These things have been established for years,” Yes, the community is not all about sexual harassment, but it really shows something about their ethics
Hey, James Chen and I are gonna have a special show tonight trying to introduce KoF, MK, & SCV to non fighting game audiences. Gonna have segments covering basic gameplay for each game as well as discussions of players and characters to watch out for. Basically, we just want to help people who were already planning to watch MLG better appreciate the fighting game part of the streams.
Hope you'll tune in, but can you also help publicize this? I'm kind of a noob when it comes to publicizing things outside of the fgc, so any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Is it just me, or was there a game that Andre won that wasn't added to the overlay? A lot of people are saying that on twitter as well. Gonna have to check out the archives.
Fanatiq is really going to get braces with the money he won? That reminds me of the time PuMa won NASL and said he was going to get skin treatment lol.
Wait, so how much did Fanatiq win this time? I know he's won five-digit(?) money matches in the past but I don't know how much of that was other people better.

Seconded, the OP is extremely well organized, has everything you need to know about the know abouts of the FGC. I'm also surprised that UltraDavid comes by here too. Still, it's still horrible that the thread isn't updated enough for me to not force myself to go on Eventhubs, or SRK for specific info. Anyways, ECT was HYPE, Fanatiq holding it down with Magnegro, Sentijamal & Beyonzo!
EDIT: I just noticed, OP the start date for CEO 2012 is June 15, not June 25. I'm loving the buildup of tournaments to EVO, though I feel bad for players, (JWong, Mike Ross and other sponsored players generally) that have really little time for some home practice
Xian defeated Daigo twice (Winner's Semi's & Grand Finals) to win SEA Majors. WITH GEN. SUCH A BOSS. I can't wait to see the replays. Daigo's probably gonna wish he played with Amiyu more for the matchup, seeing as he tried counterpicking with Yun and Guile. lol
I'm thinking about diving headfirst into learning a fighting game, when I play games I don't usually play more than one game at a time so I'd like to spend probably 300+ hours on a game. I would like some opinions on games and platforms (Pros cons, and "noob accessibility") I already own a PC/360 and most obviously a PC. I really enjoyed soul calibur 2 and haven't really played any fighting game since.
Some games I was taking into consideration: Marvel Vs Capcom 3 Soul Calbibur V<leaning Heavily towards this right now. Streetfighter 4 Arcade edition Perhaps reccomend me some others.

generally people prefer to play on 360, better online than ps3 and capcom games run slightly better on 360. However for Tekken & Soul Calibur, I think the bigger playerbase is on ps3. PC gets everything late, if at all. Also worth noting more major tournaments run on ps3
As far as what to play, that's entirely preference. It's not like rts where sc > *. Probably the most fun will be the game with the most players in your local area, or a game your friends play.
Now I don't follow Fighting games at all but the limited knowledge I do have always talks about a tournament called EVO. I just found out it will be taking place in Las Vegas the same time as I will be there. I researched a bit and found it will be at Ceasars Palace which is right across the street from where I'll be staying. I've never been to an epsorts event and even though I don't follow the fighting game scene at all I definetly want to check it out. I have a few questions though about the event that I'm hoping some of you guys can answer.
1. How much will it cost to get in the venue?
2. My favorite team is EG and I know of a few of there fighting game players (Ricky Ortiz, and Justin Wong) will they be in attendance?
3. What can I expect in terms of crowds?
4. Is there a site for fighting games similar to Team Liquid that I can check out before the event?
Thanks if you can answer one or all of theese questions! Cheers!

1. It is completely free unless you want to watch the finals in person or attend every panel. Unfortunately, all Sunday finals passes are sold out. You can still watch the finals matches, just in an overflow room on a monitor. You will be able to watch all the non-finals matches in person. If you want, you can even play casuals and sit in at panels.
2. Hell yes. Everyone who is anybody and plenty more people will definitely be in attendance. This is THE tournament for the NA scene, and definitely on the radar for players in Japan.
3. According to UltraDavid, Evo last year was slightly bigger than the crowd at MLG Anaheim this year. Anaheim broke records (if you didn't know), and you can bet Evo will break them too. The crowd is going to be so hype.
4. Shoryuken.com for all your fighting game news. evo.shoryuken.com for the Evo page
Go. Many many people would kill to have the opportunity you have. Use your vacation days, clear your schedule, and get hyped.

Hey guys, can you please do a favor for the anime fighting game community? Right now, games like BlazBlue, Guilty Gear, and Melty Blood are dying out and I am hoping that Persona 4 Arena will revive and unite the community which it probably will, however, as LordKnight put it, there is no real flagship for airdash fighting games in America and Persona 4 has the potential to do so.

Rise is not in the game D: Maybe she will be playable in the next edition.
I have not played Persona 4, but the setting gives me that Haruhi Suzumiya vibe, a world that is really weird, but something you really wish you could experience.
Evo is definitely the biggest fighting game tournament in the world to everyone. Entrants from 40 countries, over 5000 total entrants across 6 fighting games (obviously some of those are the same people entering multiple games but still pretty crazy), local tournaments to send players to Evo from lots of different places (the ones I know of are several across North America, a couple in Japan, Australia, Chile, Mexico, Brazil, a few in Europe, but there were probably more). There was a time when SBO was considered more prestigious, but that's already a couple years gone now, cemented even further each additional year as SBO keeps screwing up. Hopefully this year SBO will be better, but... feels like I've been saying that for a while now.
Anyway, tonight James and I will focus First Attack and Lv3 Focus on Evo and the Evo experience. As always, we'll start at 8pm Pacific time and go until we feel done. You can watch it on our Twitch channel, which is http://twitch.tv/ultrachentv. We'll also upload the replays later to our YouTube channel at http://youtube.com/ultrachentv.
On First Attack, which we try to keep to beginner and intermediate stuff in general, we'll be talking about attending and watching Evo for the first time, including playing tournament matches, playing casual matches, meeting people, what to do in Vegas when you don't have to play, what's gonna be on stream, how to watch certain things on stream or in person on finals day, etc.
On Lv3 Focus, which tends to cater to intermediate to advanced level players, we'll be talking about the gameplay side of things, including what and who to watch for in the 6 Evo games, which are Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition v 2012, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, King of Fighters 13, Mortal Kombat 9, Soul Calibur 5, and Street Fighter x Tekken. We'll go over players to watch, trends to watch in games, rivalries, expected matchups, and so on.
Curleh Mustache 4: West Coast Edition is today, should be starting in a few hours (Yipes tweeted 3pm, assuming that's PST even though he's from the east coast lol).
I just done watching the Curleh Mustache VODs. Excellent tournament, fucking horrible finals.
I don't want in any way to belittle FChamp's achievement, I just want to say that Phoenix should absolutely be banned in tournaments. All these guys are very good players, that's undeniable. And at their level of play, Phoenix is just too damn imbalanced.
Despite the commentators's effort to make it look like a fair match ("Oh now Dios X only has Sentinel against Dark Phoenix, but he can do it, Sentinel has the tools!"). What the fuck guys, why so hypocrites??? Do I need to remind you that Dios was playing Filipino Champ, you know, one of the best players in the scene. Do you really think one can do anything against FChamp's Dark Phoenix???????????????
Anyway, The Weskers, Vergils, and Zeros are nothing compared to the game-breaking ability of Jean Grey. I say ban Phoenix, the competition will get 10 times more interesting.

There are very few things in fighting games that are ever broken enough to be banned. MetaKnight Smash was one of them (notice how all the top players used him?). If Phoenix was as broken, why aren't all the top players using her? If you've seen any of the top player's recent tier lists in UMvC3, you'd see Zero/Vergil as SSS+ rank and Phoenix below them. Why? She's an investment that happens to be a huge liability. She seems broken to less experienced players because they don't realize that you need certain setups and strategies to kill her once you snap her in. Conversely, you can just kill the rest of her team fast enough so that when the other 2 characters die, the Phoenix player only has around 3 meters (they nerfed meter gain in Ultimate remember?). Ultimately, she's an extremely high risk character with high reward, considering all the setups there are to kill her even when she turns dark.
Phoenix can be really boring to watch and is really cheap, if you get her going. When I see her reverse OCV (one character victory) I shake my head every time. With that being said, I truly believe the most skilled player came out ahead in this tourny.

Why aren't all the top players using her? In my opinion that's because the phoenix vs. phoenix matchup might be too random. Players wanting to have more control over the match is a good reason to not engage in such a matchup.
Anyway sure, there are setups and strategies tailored to deal with her. I don't deny that, I've seen some in action, and some are quite powerful. What I meant in my previous post is that at FChamp's level, these strategies become relatively ineffective. These setups might be sufficient vs. lesser level players, but, again, I think that Phoenix play at an extremely high level is just too good all around.
Anyway this is all from a spectator's perspective; all I want is to watch entertaining and hype matches. All these phoenix victories look anti-climatic as hell to me. When I was watching the finals, as soon as Fchamp switched to that Phoenix team, I just knew he would win the two bo7 as well as the whole thing Such a skilled player, using a phoenix team? The outcome was predictable.

Koenig pretty much covered the primary reason why Phoenix isn't ban-worthy. I only watched the FChamp/DioX finals from the Curleh VOD, but based on who participated, no honest threat to Champ's Phoenix team was present (Justin was using his Iron Fist team which is always welcome, Combo still trying to work out his Vanilla team, but most of his matches are really reliant on Spencer anchors just from CEO, Viscant being a fraud as usual even with Phoenix). DiosX is a great Doom player but based on what I've been seeing from Clockw0rk and MarlinPie with Doom/Ammy, Dios isn't really running the most optimal comp/broken stuff.
I'd definitely be surprised if a primary Phoenix based team made it to Grand Finals, FChamp would probably only throw out his Phoenix team if he has prior knowledge that his opponent hates fighting Phoenix, or if his Dormammu team runs into trouble/counters. Dark Phoenix of course is great and massively powerful, but no one is worrying about her when there's considerably more troublesome things at play as soon as the match starts (Morrigan/Doom Missiles, Doom/Ammy THC, Zero May Cry, Vergil) Either way, good players that have good comps (Justin's Spencer/Vergil/FW team, ChrisG's Morrigan/Doom team, MarlinPie, *insert Zero May Cry player* all have ways to easily deal with either the strat to get to 5 bars, or Dark Phoenix herself, and at least force Champ to play Dormammu which I'm pretty sure he would rather play anyway. I just hope that the whole TAC infinite business doesn't make this trouble (Phoenix has one >_<)
Anyways, I can't wait for EVO. I really, really hope Uryo does well AE, rep all the Sakura players out there.
Don't really know too much about them but they had a real good showing at EVO at least. Doesn't really seem to put too much confidence in the old FGC/Esports discussion
VideoxGames is up for the weekend! Best players from the U.S, Caribbean area, and other international players are there. I want dat EMP vs. DMG!!! (Won't happen, but it'd be funny. XD)

lol i hope it will work
From what I've heard Xbox live is better than PSN for fighting games. I have no concrete information for this, but on tournament streams I've heard nothing but shit talk about PS3 and PSN. I'm playing UMvC3 on PS3 myself and since I don't have a router I don't play much online, but the few times I've tried it seems much harder to find an opponent with decent connection compared to at my friends place who plays on Xbox.
Yeah well then go for it I almost never play online since I usually have friends to play with, once you get used to lag-free play, online is almost impossible. None of my high-execution combos works online for me, I drop them after the first few hits (I'm a marvel monster).
Edit: I say grudge match, but that's only b/c of the existing grudge. This hasn't been arranged they're happening to meet in the loser's and it's getting pretty nutzo
Double Edit: Fanatiq takes game 1 Sentinel v Sentinel!!!! Fanatiq wearing his sunglasses with a dead ass mug hahaha. Both dudes with deadpan faces
Triple Edit: Infrit gets a near perfect game 2! :O:O:O
Quad Edit: XFactor Nova hypers both mag AND sent out... Fanatiq down to Storm vs Spencer/Sent. FANATIQQ WINS WITH LOW HEALTH STORM CHIP!!!!
Quin Edit: Infrit drops Magneto in game 4 but manages to kill Storm with Spencer. Magneto follows through for Fanatiq and kills Spencer. Sentinel comes in and kills Mag, Fana Sent vs Nova/Sent. NO X FACTOR SENT V SENT. Fanatiq picks up infrit and should have won but drops him!!!! Infrit comes back with it and wins! GAME FIVE GO
SEX EDIT FOR GAME 5: Rumors that Fanatiq dropped it on purpose in order to make a hype game 5 ending. Magneto killed instantly. Fanatiq blows xfactor with storm to kill nova. Infrit picks up storm and kills her. Sent vs sent/Spencer. Spencer drops Sent and Sent gets a reverse hard drive but somehow Spencer falls out?!?!? Infrit wins and walks away saying NOTHING.
Edit 6: Discussion on whether that was a bait by Fanatiq for a later money match. So.... they're saying he's sandbagging? Fanatiq comes on stream and asks for a money match saying he's going to start training today.
Wong just... wow... I won't say exposed b/c Infrit came in 2nd at EVO but holy shit... (Watching a player like Infrit get rocked like that makes me realize how freeeeeee I am)
Edit: How is he so good......
Double Edit: Coming from the loser's bracket and needs to win two sets to win. HOW!?!? Wong wins the first set and now whoever wins the next one wins the whole thing :S
Triple Edit: Eliver's zero keeps dropping his loops :S He's up 1 game to none atm, though. Justin ties it up and Eliver looking defeated Game three Wong snaps in wesker and kills him, taskmaster v 3 with no x factor. Justin wins game 3 with chip. Game 4, this could be it! Killer Kai holds on and done it! 2-2 here we goooo!
Quad Edit: Zero gets picked up and dropped, Wolvy gets picked up and looped to death BUT WAIT NO HE DROPS IT! This game is highlighting just how good these two players are defensively. Zero finally gets knocked out after a good 20-30seconds of mind games and blocks from both players. Taskmaster picked up and then dropped! Kills wolvy, though. Tries to chip task to death but he lives! Crosses the screen and gets bopped :<
TIME!!!! WONG WINS ON TIME!!!!!!!! NO WAYYYYYYYYY
To do a final edit lol: Wesker picks up Storm with 7s left, Akuma comes in immediately pops xfactor super jumps and hypers right into wesker's face. Chip damage drops Wesker below Akuma's life and boom... time runs out. An insane finish.

Was a pretty big mistake btw, he should have extended that combo until timeout. Unless something has changed recently and Wesker no longer can combo for over 3 seconds after an OTG?
Grand Finals of sbo qual #2 infit v killer kai just started. Kai up 1-0
Edit: Wong and eliver will be going to Japan bc infrit doesn't want to go, this is now a pride match but kai is now up 2-0 and may just earn his trip (#lingsanity rofl)
Lightning loops gogo! Bracket is reset!
Double edit: zero blown up instantly game 1 final set. Doesn't matter lolwesker. Kai 1-0
Zero blown up instantly again game 2. Doesn't matter lolwesker. Kai 2-0
Kai falls finally. 2-1

Clockw0rk losing to lingsanity was just facepalm. Having Justin & Clock represent the U.S. would've looked amazing, but alas dem Wesker comebacks.
I'm currently playing with a crap Hori V3 stick, me and my (former) roommate each bought one when we lived together and played a crapton of UMvC3. We still do but I really want a new stick since he got a TE madcatz stick and the difference is just miles apart. I'm keeping both sticks at my new place since he plays on Xbox and they're PS3 sticks. Every time I watch a major they have ridonculous sales on all kinds of sticks, I want a dual modded one but so far I've never seen the deals go outside of NA. With overseas shipping and the added cost of a dual modded stick is it simply asking too much and I should just suck it up and pay the extra money or do you guys have any tips on how I could save a little bit of money?
AFAIK most tournament deals are on the official madcatz store which does not ship outside of NA. You might be able to get cheaper shipping from amazon uk or www.gremlinsolutions.co.uk
If you want an out of the box dual-modded stick, you'll need to find Qanba sticks (Q4RAF is the most common, Q2Pro is the newer one and Eightarcs are Q4s with a different case) which might have European retailers.
If you travel to events, I believe Madcatz has a booth at Gamescon and possibly at DreamHacks which would sell sticks and save on international shipping.
Last option if you are technically capable, would be to reuse the Hori V3 Stick and refit it with authentic sanwa buttons and stick. (Requires Soldering)
Hmm I been thinking of making my own stick for a while, but I didn't know I could use so many of the V3 parts (looked at the tutorial video). That type of stuff comes natural to me and this got me motivated. Hopefully I can even get tools from my university.
Lol Revelations 2012 = Triple Threat 09? Jesus took one look at the stream when a friend mentioned it. Not only is it on Ustream, the tournament itself reminded me of the whole Triple Threat venue/situation. SFxT pot prize goes from 5k guranteed to 500, KOF players walk out because of how shitty the tournament is, overall the shadyness and poor organizing of the TO.
Hey all, I'm new to fighting games and I just bought MvC3. It's fun, but I have a lot of trouble executing special moves that require joystick moves (The dragon punch thing gives me particular trouble). I'm doing it on an Xbox 360 controller cuz I can't afford a stick. Is this normal or am I really bad?
Don't think I can. I can't actually figure out how to do a diagonal input on one without triggering one of the normal 4 way ones (eg bottom right ALWAYS triggers down)

It can take getting used to, just have to practice until you can do it. You only really need a forward -> down -> forward or forward down input. anything else is just gravy
Brazil major going on right now with Combofiend, Gamerbee, and Tokido in attendance, as well as some local amazing players like the Flame Iori God Kleber Yagamy and extremefenix.
Is there a way I can acquire the game like lots of NA folks did with Melty Blood or do we have to wait?
Game was released only on PS3 in japan. So you would have to import that copy. afaik there is no announced US release.
FinestKO had a stream of a tournament recently in Norcal with a imported copy but it wasn't very exciting since no one aside from the owner knew how to play the game.
What makes me curious is how did this game become an e-sport? Yes it looks fun, yes I am dying to play it, but it seems really simple, but I did not play it. Can anyone inform me about the e-sport status of this game?
e-sport status as you call it means the game has real money to be made
aquapazza does not have that, not even close.
theres tourneys in jp, but in america, esports fighting games are sf4, marvel, and maybe the other 'main' games, depending on how much money makes a game e-sports to you
think of it this way
a game thats a major featured game at every major tourney is a 'fighting game esports game'
if it doesnt do that... its probably not esports.
having played my friends imported aquapazza, i can also tell you there are much better games out there. seriously.
tbh I can't really get into most the exhibition sets SB always puts on, except in the case of stuff like CJ vs Andre, where neither are good enough to be saving stuff for the tournament itself. For the sets between actual contender players, there's almost always sandbagging unless the players have chunks of their own money on the line.
We need to stop having these USA vs World 5v5s when the "World" doesn't have enough strong int'l players in attendance. Putting 5 of the top of the US up against some good but not really top level players isn't exactly fair. The "World" always starts with a ~5 game penalty because they have someone like Chocoblanka on the team
Pretty hype for the finale today. Mexico vs Korea in KoF top 8, EC vs WC in mvc3 top 16, and learning from the remaining Steve players in Tekken.
Chris Genius strikes again. That set was brilliant. Really close set up to 9-9, but chris G is too damn good at adapting.
It's worth noting that the vast majority of chris's tacs got countered while I don't remember chris countering any of fchamp's, although I may be forgetting a couple. Point being that the variance favored Fchamp in a measurable way
Kbrad really putting on a show today. That guys been good forever but damn if he hasn't really stepped up his game in the last 6 months.

People forget that Infiltration has problems against non-studied opponents. He has problems against Dieminion's Guile and (some guy's Ken) at EVO.
Ricky actually beat up some good names to get out of pools too, not just infrit. I guess staying in a house that plays marvel all day everyday does improve your marvel skills even though you don't even play the game.
BTW shoutouts to Marvel 2 side tourney getting more views than Tekken Tag 2 main tournament and DOA5 being dead on day 1 #Kappa
Damn so I have to catch the KOF top 8, K-Brad's journey to his championship, and the Chris G/FChamp FT15. Sounds like a craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazy weekend.
Marvel was fucking boring, and I'm not even talking about the Morrigan spam bs. It honestly looked like no one except Chris G was playing up to their potential at all, and so despite the star-studded roster a bunch didn't even make it out of pools and the ones making it out was just riding out Zero/Doom/Virgil or whatever bullshit they could come up with and chokes and drop combos all day.
Even the FT15 was mostly hyped just because it's East vs West. Chris G was just being Chris G and Champ played so uncharacteristically nervous, he literally dropped like 5 games dropping the simplest things or doing something completely stupid.

Gonna jump over to some hardware. Anyone have any experience with the OBSFS-30s? I was wondering if they're identical to OBSF-30s but they have the rubber insert. I want to try and get a set of silent OBSC-30s so I was looking into buying some silent buttons mods but it appears that no one sells those. I'm too lazy to make my own since I don't even have an exacto knife.
Not sure if anybody here cares about KOF anymore, but after a long break of not playing any fighters, picked it up again and started learning some shit with Ralf. Fuck this character is so fun :D
Oh I also started up on P4A again. Teddie is a funny character.
UMvC3 related. Filipino champ along with Hiro, Neo and CJ Showstopper spent two weeks here in the Philippines. Money matches. Team PH vs US and interviews galore. I'll be posting some interviews/matches when they're up if anyone's interested.

Basically, they were really impressed though )
"They" being the Americans? Can't wait for the VODs though.
Yeah. US was pretty impressed. claimed that we (PH) Could probably body the japanese. I'm inclined to believe it, eventually but, with all the weird tech they have, I'm guessing they'll body us first till we get used to it.
This is the last 4 games of the second set between a 500 php (Roughly 10$) money match between Carlo and CJ Shostopper.
Carlo won the first set 5-3. And, Game 1 from the second set
Winner walked away with 20$
My short interview with the US Crew. There were a lot of serious interviews from Team PanCan as well as d3v from SRK, so I kinda focused on making it short and fun
EDIT: More videos to follow when we have them upped. One of the players from Team PH also represented the Philippines in the Korean IeSF for Tekken 6 (Alexander "Bully" Lim)

Eh, even U.S players go goggled eyes at Japan tech, but then you realize that if they have questionable mechanics, have weak links on their team (whether by not knowing how to play a character on their team (japanese doom lol) or that character is just ass), inexperienced, can't block, can't tech, or just plain can't find anything to hit, they gonna die to day 1 tech regardless of how advance their shit are. From what I've seen all foreign players suffer from at least 2 of these problems, and so they get capped by anyone decent that they run into.
U.S players are nice but they're not known for sugarcoating. Especially, if Champ's crew says you guys have what it takes to beat Japan, they ain't lying.
Yeah, that's pretty much what I meant. PH really loves marvel all the way back from marvel 2. Marvel and tekken pretty much keep the arcades alive. I recall champ's earlier visit last year saying "PH, You don't know your SHIT in SF, but in Marvel, You Know your shit"
Edit: First match I believe shows anti-phx tech XD
Edit 2: Part one of 5 of Team US vs PH
Edit 3: added Better quality footage of the carlo peter set that was part of US vs PH that I posted a few hours ago (US vs PH part 2)

I'm surprised there isn't a big thread regarding playstation all stars.
Anyway, I just thought of something. I remember reading the gamespot review on playstation all stars about its mechanics (being too complicated) and comparing Super Smash Bros to a spammy game...
Also I remember (randomly) reading people stating Super Smash is not a real fighting game.
I have a good comparison / analogy!
Super Smash Bros Melee is like Quake (I pick Melee because it's the "hardcore!111" "faster paced" with "faster fall speed" out of the three). Yes, I compared Super Smash with an FPS! The reason why is it really fits. In Quake (or any FPS), using your weapons is easy (click on your mouse) but obviously there are other things that make the game hard to play (with high skill ceiling). The skill is accuracy and other stuff (like doing rocket jumps), for example.
Doing special moves in Super Smash (like using weapons in CS 1.6, Quake, Team Fortress, etc ) is easy. However, what's important is accuracy and precision timing. For example, getting a hit on Fox's up air (up attack while in the air) is really hard because the hitbox has to be precise, fall speed is fast, and there is a delay on when Fox actually performs his up kick.
Not only that, players can air dodge to a certain direction (in melee, in Brawl it's just a semi invulnerability period while staying in place).
That's similar to Quake's gameplay (fast pace, requires accuracy and precision timing on attacks, etc).
Things like Wave Dashing (kind of like bunny hopping), L Canceling, etc also add to Melee's complexity.
Yes doing attacks is easy in Super Smash (compared to Street Fighter) because you just hold a direction button and press the special or smash button but again, same with how using weapons in FPS works (you click on your mouse) but the hard stuff is pulling things off successfully with accuracy and precision (rocket jumps into rocket into enemy for example).
It's similar with Super Smash Bros - Like I said with Fox's up air, it's hard to land (in melee especially with the fast fall speed and how fast everything moves) even though performing the attack itself isn't hard (just jump and hold up).
Another example is Ness' up special - It shoots a ball of thunder that moves at a certain speed and can move at a certain angle. It's hard to control the ball of thunder but it's his main method of recovery.
To recover with Ness' up special, he needs to hit himself with his thunder ball (basically, you control the turning of thunderball and if you can hit yourself with it, you'll be launched into a certain direction depending on the angle).
It's really tricky and hard to use Ness' up special properly due to its mechanics (even though performing the attack itself is easy).
So overall, I think a good way of putting it is Super Smash Bros is a 2D Quake-like game where performing specials or attacks are easy but what matters is accuracy, precise timing, and quick reflexes.
Can it be considered a fighting game? Well, not the usual type like Street Fighter or Tekken but it has the same complexity IMO, just a different type (one more similar to Quake gameplay, which is weird since Quake is an FPS but it fits well IMO).
Anyway, the reason I mentioned Playstation All Stars is because I'm curious on why they decided to make their own type of battle system (I guess one reason could be aesthetics, a game where the goal is to knock them off a platform is kind of weird to watch in a way) instead of just copying Super Smash. Though it does follow the formula of being a non-traditional fighting game (in PS All Stars, you KO people by building up a special meter, then performing it, there aren't any health bars in the traditional sense) but would easy to just copy Super Smash (assuming they could).
Are there any games that copy super smash in exact gameplay (knocking them off of a platform)? A lot of Melee players disliked the direction Brawl went (basically slowing down the game and making the game a lot more campy and defensive compared to Melee).
Lots of games copy Mario Kart almost to the exact core, so I'm surprised few games have tried to copy Super Smash Bros (fighting game meets Quake).
Anyway a bit off topic but since this sounds like a generic fighting game thread, I just wanted to post my thoughts on it and defend Super Smash (and its type of "easy to perform moves" gameplay).

May I ask why Blazblue isn't ever really played in big tournaments or even seemingly popular in general? It is one of my favourite fighting games and I am disappointed I never see it much. Is there some major flaw it has that keeps it from being a seriously competitive game?
People play it but it doesn't seem very popular in America. All the people who you would expect to play it give it a lot of hate (Guilty Gear players).

If it's not big in tournaments it's just due to lack of entrants. When it was featured at evo, it had a low turnout, cue joke about BB's online being so good no one leaves home. Its release date timings tend to be awful too, like right now the newest version is only out in JP arcades and wouldn't be out in time for evo, so even if evo wanted to run it, they'd be stuck with an outdated version.
@Lucumo, SSBM is actually one of the lead candidates for the 8th spot this year
edit: to update on the players choice thing, MLP:FiM was taken out as a possible official evo game as the developers say it won't be ready in time.
Current Leader: SSBM ($8,142.00)
Nearest Rivals: Skullgirls ($4,190.00) DOA 5 ($1,462.69) Guilty Gear ($1170.00)
My Little Pony Fund: $4,300.00
MLP, Fighting Is Magic Rule Change
MLP, Fighting is Magic is in a unique situation. The game has no official release date, and it’s not clear if the game will be ready in time for players to get up to speed in time for Evo 2013. For the Mane6 team, this contest represents and artificial deadline. We don’t want to put any undo pressure on them to release anything but their best effort when it’s ready. So, after talking to the Mane6 guys, we’ve decided to handle FiM slightly differently. First, FiM will be back in a big way at the Evo 2013 Indie Gaming Showcase (spoiler, the Indie Gaming Showcase from Evo 2012 returns in 2013!). This year we will have multiple setups so a lot more players will get a crack at the game. This is 100% happening regardless of the results of the donation drive, and we’re happy to have the game back for a second year. Next, we’re removing FiM from the running for the 8th Evo game. If FiM finishes with the most money donated, we will take the game with the second highest donations as the 8th Evo game. But, should FiM win the donation drive, Evo will sponsor an exhibition tournament and run it out of the Indie Gaming Showcase. The top 8 players from the exhibition will fight it out on stage and stream, like previous Evo exhibitions. One more thing. As you can see, so far the FiM guys are kicking everyone else’s tails (I’m sure there’s a pony pun in there somewhere). So let’s make things a little more interesting. Evo will provide a $1000 bonus to the first place game. If a game manages to take down FiM and come out on top of the donation drive, Evo will spike the tournament pot for $1000. If FiM wins, the $1000 will go towards prizes for their exhibition. TLDR If FiM wins, 2nd place game is the Evo 8th game If FiM wins, we ALSO run a FiM exhibition $1000 to the pot of the donation drive’s 1st place game. That’s it for now. We’ll update the standings every week until Jan 29th. Good luck to all the game communities, and thanks for supporting a great cause!
If Skullgirls wins, I may have to start grinding that game. I'll be so mad at myself if I make top 8 in a game the year it isn't an official game and then don't in the year it is
Edit: melee donation drive going apparently, they just doubled their donations in the last day or two
Why wasn't Smash featured at previous EVO's? Although their community seems hype as fuck, do they not have the interest in numbers other than the players themselves?
EDIT: To guy above, it was part of evo 2k8. Brawl. Not gonna act like I know the history aside from "OMG SMASH NOT REAL FG." but suffice to say, drama bet. communities
veloc1raptor, the gouken player, just beat Kbrad :O
Smash has been at evos in the past. melee in 2007, brawl in 2008 I think. They ran brawl with all items / stages and the smash community didn't like it, so evo didn't bring it back.
Cammy vs Gouken is in Cammy's favor, but if you don't know the matchup, good fucking luck. Gouken players are wizards, you gotta be on their level in terms of matchup knowledge or you're free. a character like that has no choice but to spend hella time in the lab. i think that's true of all characters in AE now, it's become a very technical game in that regard. You just gotta know everything about your opponent's character and your own to have a level playing field.
ahhh two cool tournaments going on this weekend http://www.twitch.tv/tournament_cl in Chile, marvel coming up soon once the stream starts up again in about an hour schedule here
I can't wait to see kleber yagami on the Brazil stream. that guy's flame iori is the best in the world. I think infiltration, Laugh, and Combofiend are there as well.
