Nothing touches FF6. And yeah, Chrono Trigger also rules (there was that PSX remake, I think it came with an FF4 remake)

i never got to finish xenogears, stranded somewhere in the desert and never turned it on again. i really regret that ![]() all final fantasy games are incredibly cool, great storylines, characters, music and a bunch of easter eggs. you are looking at at least 50+ hours of playing for each game if you want to get the most out of them, a lot more if you get into anything that has to do with chocobos or card games;) a few others that rocked are chrono cross (oh so very very cool) and legend of mana, the latter can get very confusing at times though.

well, to each their own i guess. i thought alundra was fucking terrible except in the first village you come to this house where 2 gyus live, and one of their names is "Phenus", and the other one had a homoerotic name as well. don't remember, but it was funny. sad that this is only redeeming feature of that crappy grame.

FF8 - A lot of people hated this. "Most" of them because they got owned by the junction system. FF9 - Lots of fun Xenogears - This game relies heavily on story. There is an absolute mass of dialogue in this game. More than any other RPG I've played by a long mile. It's a pretty complicated plot too. Chrono Cross - Good game Star Ocean 2 - This is great. Not as good as Star Ocean 1 on the SNES imo, but it is still very good.

I actually picked up Wild Arms 4 and played it recently cuz we had it at work - i like the new characters in this chapter. I also really like Gran Turismo 4, but I'd like to know what other games are peoples fav's for ps2.

I'm currently playing through it for about the 7th time, and I have 255 stats on 2/3 of my party members. This game can get quite time consuming when you get really addicted to the Triple Triad card game. I've spent 6 hours on end jsut going around in the game and playing cards. The game also gets addictive when you get Eden's devour ability. It wont stop! It takes alot of getting used to because the junctioning system is so different than Materia/Equipment. It's also different because you don't get to equip weapons, you upgrade. I think the reason that people dont like it is because it seems alot more "Math Oriented". Final Fantasy 7 was also amazing. I'm playing it atm also. Disc 2 after City of the Acients. This game is jsut soooo classic. It brought Final Fantasy from the SNES to the next gen systems. And seriously, the storyline for this game is amazing. The ending of the game leaves you with such a cliff hanger O_O. GOGO ADVENT CHILDREN I'll sum my post up with my top 3. 1. Final Fantasy 7 - Tied for best RPG on PS1. 1. Final Fantasy 8 - Tied for best RPG on PS1. 2. Xenogears [AMAZZZZZZZZZZING!] 3. Final Fantasy 9. [Went back to the Final Fantasy roots] [I'm a Squaresoft fan boy, alright?] ![]() PS: Does anyone have any idea when Advent Children is coming out in the United States??? I have never played chrono cross though and I would like to know if its any good?!?! Yes, it's a fine game on its own with a nice combat system. It really only comes together if you're a huge fan of chrono trigger (READ: played through it 10 times, got every ending, know all the intimate details of the plot and every character, you know, typical shit for a chrono trigger fan) because crono cross ties up so many loose plot threads. At first it'll seem to have absolutely no relation to chrono trigger then bam! If you enjoyed chrono trigger you owe it to yourself to get a more complete view of the "chrono trigger" world. The thing about crono cross that throws people off is that there's 45 playable characters. You can go from start to finish with 45 different perspectives on every event in the game. There's a gaggle of sub plots and threads that all tie together in strange ways. If it's your first time through the game I recommend using the "main characters" who have a much more developed relationship with the plot to get the most out of the game. You can really tell who the chrono trigger fans are after they beat the final boss in cross. If you leave confused and disapointed you probably didn't understand trigger.

story was in bits and pieces, not very well transitioned, not very well explained. of course we the gamer could comprehend it perfectly, and i guess they did make the movie for the gamers, but the flaws are still there. seemed like a lot of mini-climaxes as opposed to build up and release - i for one was more excited about the bahamut scene as opposed to sephiroth =[ but that was offtopic. best ps1 rpg is ff7.

For me, the choice of the greatest RPG (greatest game ever, really) for the PS1 is simple: Xenogears. No game I've ever played compares to the detail that has been included in this game. In addition to (at the time) the incredibly unique and dynamic gameplay, Xenogears featured a storyline with religious and moral sub tones to a more explicit degree than any RPG before it. Most RPG's contain themes of friendship, love, rivalry, and animosity at the core of their story, but Xenogears enveloped these feelings and more in its incredibly complex tale. In addition to the incredible storyline content, Xenogears boasted the most unique combat system since FF7's materia. Every other RPG made on the PSX pales in comparison; there really is nothing that approaches the level of detail and sophistry of this game. I welcome and encourage discussion about this -- while I no longer play RPGs, Xenogears strongly affected my appreciation for video games. I played most of the RPGs for the PS2 (I've played literally all of the PSX RPGs), and IMO they failed to even eclipse the worst of the PS1 RPGs in complexity and compelling detail. Somehow technical achievements were subsidized via the reduction of story elements. P.S. please do not mention RPGs from other, newer systems -- this thread is about the achievements of RPGs from the Golden Age; it is about the gaming system that claims home to the greatest and most groundbreaking RPGs of the '90s.

Anyways here a list of some that stood out to me: Final Fantasy VII - Classic, Ive played through it 8 times since I got it, and I plan on playing through it again quite soon. Final Fantasy VIII - People either love it or hate it, no middle ground here. For me, some things were tedious but overall I enjoyed it. Final Fantasy Tactics - Wow, the best Tactical RPG that will ever be made imo, simply incredible. Lunar Blue; Eternal Blue - Hard as a mother fucker but great game, I still cherish it ![]() Star Ocean 2 - Dunno why but it just never appealed to me that much lol, I found it kinda fun but I felt it had like no plot direction ? ![]() Suikoden - Its like impossible to find nowadays but its a fuckin GEM, wow.

Xenogears - Great game (Better than FF7 in my opinion) that was released around the same time as FF7 and because of this, was overshadowed. Suikoden - One of my favorite games of all time. Final Fantasy Tactics - I loved the story even though the gameplay was ripped off a previous game. Parasite Eve - Another game I loved. Final Fantasy IX - A return to what FF was and a refreshing step away from the high-tech crap of FF7 and FF8. Saga Frontier - Definitely a notable RPG Wild Arms - Fun game

Agreed. I have been playing games since the days of nintendo, and Xenogears is also my favorite game of all time (Smash Bros Melee and Starcraft come to a very close second, hence why I started hosting game tournaments for these). You could argue FF7, especially considering how it changed the standard of RPG's following it (my second favorite RPG however is FF6, even though both games were amazing). But, Xenogears sets itself apart from everything else. NO RPG has been able to match the depth that this game brought to its storyline. This game split a company into two, it was almost not released in the states because it was deemed too controversial, and it has even had books written about it to explain its complex and beautiful storyline. This game didn't just affect the way I see games, but the way I see life. You can't play through this game and understand the religous implications without it changing the way you see the world. It's just that damn good. I'd highly recommend that anyone who hasn't played this game yet to get it. Get it now. And after you beat it, go online and google it and learn everything you can about the backstory. Sometimes, the storyline gets really complex, especially later in the game (I had to beat it 3 times and really pay attention to names of organizations the third time to erally understand it). Reading it like a novel online really makes things easier to understand, and it gives you a better appreciation for the game. The soundtrack is comparable to FF6 and FF7. I had never bought a video game soundtrack before in my life before this game, and since then I've listened to this more than most music CD's. It has adsolutely fantastic music for reading, contemplating, or just to listen to on the road. Like the game, you can really sense the deep emotion that was put into it. I'm not really a fanboy of this game, and I hate it when people pick a lesser-known RPG as their favorite only because it makes them sound "special". there are tons and tons of good RPG's out there. But really, this one takes the cake, and it has a lot of really good reasons why.

Hmm... I wana play persona 2, but I noticed that its a two part game? First part was not release in the states. So if I just play Eternal Punishment, will it even make sense? If its playable by it self, will I miss out on certain things since I duno what happend on the first part?
