They're absolutely infuriating. 99% of the time they're just a chaotic clusterfuck as they have way too many players on so you're either spawn killing or being spawn killed. If not that you're being sniped by the multitude of awp players, I swear it seems like half the players are using awps on most deathmatch servers. I find myself getting more frustrated with deathmatch then anything. Is this just how it is? Are there any good servers people would recommend in Europe? Secondly, I'm really having trouble hitting moving targets, as soon as an enemy player starts strafing I may as well just give up as I can't hit them for the life of me, I realise it's probably just practice but if there's any tips people can think of then I'm all ears. You play deathmatch since it is hard to learn the guns in a regular server setting. It's hard to experiment with guns as every time you die, you'll often have to wait more than a minute before you can shoot someone again in a regular server. In DM, you can have a new target within seconds after you die. Try to practice and experiment with different firing patterns (spray, burst, tap) while also practicing your aim. I would recommend practicing the main rifles (AK, M4). Good riflers can match up against AWPs for anything other than long range. As for strafing targets, you'll just have to kill them quickly. Best way of course is to kill them within a single burst or a headshot. Hitting the first shot on them tags them, which slows them down. Otherwise depending on the range, you can spray (learn the spray recoil pattern) and lead them. You can also try bursting, strafe, re-aim, stop, and burst again.

@calvinL: At first unless at close range I was pretty much always doing the burst to the head, strafe, burst to the head pattern. The problem is that when I'm surprising an opponent from behind and I miss my burst a few times my advantage is pretty much blown as the guy will turn around and maybe headshot me. Recently in this situation I've started aiming to the chest and tapping to tag people and get the kill more reliably, even if more slowly. When I encounter an opponent that is facing me I'm always going for the headshot though otherwise I'm going to be the one taking it. Then a few days ago I watched some footage of the Steelseries GO tournament with NiP playing and have been absolutely astonished by how they just spray all the time even at mid range. So what's your opinion on the different firing techniques and the situations in which they shine? And do you think there is one more worth training than the others?

@Matoo- Something you said reminded me of another question, I can only ever find deathmatch servers playing on Dust2, but you mention trying out the MAG-7 on inferno or office, did you just mean in a normal game? Or am I somehow missing something? Whenever I search for a deathmatch server I just input 'deathmatch' in to the search field. Would be nice to play deathmatch on other maps from dust2 from time to time ![]()

So what's your opinion on the different firing techniques and the situations in which they shine? And do you think there is one more worth training than the others? The one thing I love about CS is that the firing techniques are more complex than any other FPS. Spraying/bursting/tapping is used in different situations, and even between different guns you'll have to adjust your firing pattern. There are different factors like number of enemies, whether you can crouch or not, if you are committed on the offense or not, etc. You'll see top players spray a lot because their aim and recoil control is spot on. For example, if you shoot and missed the head but got 2-3 bullets on their body in your "burst", you might as well finish them off by transitioning into a spray. It's better if you can kill someone with a quick 10 bullet spray than to stop and do another burst, but you have to be confident in your recoil control and aim. If you're having trouble with spraying at mid range, create your own game with mp_startmoney 16000, buy your gun and just practice spraying at the wall. Learn the speed and timing of when you need to pull down your aim to hit center mass constantly between the different guns. Burst/tap if its long range or a small target (only head peeking out). Bursting is good if you have cover, as you can dart in and out. Otherwise I like to tap on their heads. Again, go into an empty server and see how fast you can tap while maintaining bullet accuracy. I have also been doing burst into tap as well. They are all pretty important to learn imo.

Would be nice to play deathmatch on other maps from dust2 from time to time ![]() A ton of deathmatch servers have the word "deathmatch" in their name but not in their tags. And the search only looks in the tags, not in the name. So you're probably missing most of them by doing that. I don't know if there's a way to tweak the search to include the name as well. If there's one I didn't find it. What I did is show all the servers, order them by lowest latency, then look for the word "deathmatch" in their name with my own eyes, and add them to my favorites. Out of the 8 servers I found with < 40 ping, 2 of them nearly always have players, and they rotate between aztec, dust, dust2, nuke, train, inferno, office and italy, so it's quite enjoyable. @ calvinL: Yeah, having no precise idea of 1) the maximum tapping speed and 2) the recoil pattern and how to control it have been my two biggest issues when playing DM recently. I'm going to spend some time on an empty server to figure it out. It's also going to be hell when I start playing other weapons than the AK since they all behave differently. I'm already horribly crappy when switching to the M4. Anyway my short term goal is being good with the AK, after that I'd like to expand to M4 and P90 so I have more versatility when playing in classic mode. Also shotgun and P250/Tec9 but I already use them quite a lot in DM and they feel much less complex to handle.

I'm pretty good at them; over half the time I come in first, and can't think of an instance I wasn't top 3. Hope it's somewhere on their to-do list... Do you ever get normal maps why playing gungame? I do...its random though, and doesn't happen often. EDIT: Actually, I think they even still have a bomb but it doesn't ever end the game when set/defused.

And gungame has always been one kill new weapon ... and no it shouldn't be on any map because that would be boring as fuck for 5v5.
